Billfreaks, you are invited to a beautiful Bill Evans master class on YT! The class includes an in-depth analysis of Bill's classic solo performance "A Time for Love". You will LOVE this, promise:) Type in "Dave Frank" Bill Evans on YT.
Many may not know it but Bill Evans studied flute as a young man and became somewhat accomplished on the instrument. He certainly understood well how to play together with someone on the flute.
non ricordavo più: grazie alla citazione di Saviano l'ho recuperata. Bellissimo recuperare le perle perse nella strada della vita........................
A real gem which I was unaware of. For whatever reason, Bill's playing is very free, swingind ng and inspired. Jeremy's weirdness aet him let loosend strange chops really frees up Bill. This must have been a Steig project where bill ws essentially a sideman, which let him let loose. He did go through a period of stagnation for many years trying to make a buck and support his jones. Great find.
Some of you may find this strange, but of all the Bill Evans albums I've heard, this is one of my favorites. Yes, Evans was amazing. But often the heroin, depression, or whatever it was made his playing repetitive, hackneyed, and uninspired. The trio setting just didn't cut it, somehow. Then, along comes much more modern-sounding Jeremy Steig, and BAM! it's like a fire is lit under Evans.. One of my favorite recordings ever, every tune a gem. Too bad this was their only recording together.RIP

Great song, but I didn't dig this version as much. Too much has been put into it (not that it's a lot to begin with) and it's out of place in my humble opinion :D
I felt in love with the tune when i bought conversation with myself, as so many master jazz piece this one is coming from an hollywood masterpiece that i love too.
Thanks for sharing that, now i want the record badly, flute traversiere is such a beauty, i love the way jazzman and especially brazilian one use it.
Jeremy Steig had quite a career beginning in the late 60s with Jeremy and the Satyrs. On his own he recorded maybe the best version of Wayfaring Stranger ever recorded.
Any postings of Jeremy and he Satyrs? I can't find any. I knew the local legendary guitar player in that group, Adrian Guillary, who was an art student at the college circa 1958.
@EscapeArtistPatric You should check out Ino Hidefumi's versions...one is on a Rhodes piano with a drum track behind it and the other is solo piano. He has a very smooth style and good tone in my opinion.
Eccellente!!!!

It starts off a bit ponderously for my taste, but eventually evolves into something remarkable.

normally I shy away from anything remotely suggestive of 'luuuuve' or that kind of thing, because I prefer things upbeat and hard-boiled.
But this!
ah! the beauty of it really sinks into my heart! I can't control this.
so I quietly add this clip to 'my favourite'.
Thank you, cbcrosscbcross!

It hardly ever gets better than this. Two artist of this caliber not just playing together but becoming almost a single unit -- a complete thought.

. . . @ IanFerrars - this IS NOT Emily. Go do some homework !
I actually got to see this aggregate do this at a Newport in '70. Gomez and Steig use to be in Jeremy & the Satyrs. Now, find some of that !

Bill Evans is a superb artist, enhanced in this case by Jeremy Steig. I must hear this again and again.
