  • @1994Jordynn you LIKE the stand up bass???????

  • @meljohnson200 Yes. They rule. Check out Stanley Clarke upright bass solo.

  • @1994Jordynn Kay okay :P But yes I actually will.

  • i went to do that plucking thing and i took all my skin ofa my finger what did i do wrong

  • @d4rksunsh1n3 ouch how the hell did you do that was it the skin by nail?

  • @d4rksunsh1n3 if you mean the skin from your fingertips, thats because you have to build up a tolerance, callus up. Its painful and takes time before you can do it comfortably

  • Pentatonic scale?explain me.:.....

  • A 5 tone scale derived from omitting notes from the major scale.

  • WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?

  • now i can play ,,Play that funky music,, :)

  • 3:25 I use that finger a lot

  • Am i the only one that finds this bloody hard? i cant get it :(. Also great video dude, ive watched tonnes and this is the first one ive found that actually explains what your doing,

  • how?????

  • What is your left hand doing? I can't get the fingers on the right order

  • @machomancake He is using octaves. So it's fret '0' on the E string, and fret '2' on the D string

  • Shit Will Shattner can play the bass pretty good

  • He was playing a section of The Cure - Let's go to bed

  • middle finger for popping

  • I like your Bass!!

  • he do look like peter griffin lol

  • I Lear to play Bass Guitar Starting on this Video...

And i dindt gone to a Music School OYEH!

  • what? ):

  • ur slap sounds so awesome, on my ESP it gives a very boomy and hollow sound...not funky at all :(

  • @LOL11306 ESP's don't funk

  • how knows what that is e minor pentatonic scale

  • how knows what that is

  • wtf

  • thx bro

  • you are the best teacher god bless you

  • Is a 'hitch-hikers thumb' required?

  • Rick Kosick plays bass?

  • this is funk for begginers not how to tune for beginners if you dont know what a penatonic is and your on youtube you have a computer google that stuff this guy is doing great at teaching

  • 3:26

  • @skinnyshits15

    Hahahaha

  • KEEP UR MIDDLE FINGER ON THE G STRING...FTW!

  • 3:24 you saying something blud? ;)

  • whats wrong with slapping the g string?

  • any bass player can use a pick it just depends on your preference of your tone and genre that you want to play. I dont play with a pick but i used to. it helped me alot with getting my rhythm down. just never be afraid to experiment with bass. but do learn to play with all strumming styles. it helps

  • could changing string make it sound deeper

  • you rock man

  • i use my middle finger on the G-string to! XD

  • @darkninjaclan11 I was thinking the same thing before I saw your comment lol

    Middle Finger on the G-String

  • no good bass player uses a pick

  • @HippyManEyeballs1 So true dude! I can't understand the use of picks for bass myself either, I much prefer fingering.

  • @HippyManEyeballs1 you don't listen to punk. look up maxwell murder by Rancid. That "no good bass player" uses a pick and will beat you and anyone else any day.

  • @HippyManEyeballs1 chris squier

  • jerky...............................!!!!!!!

  • i only learned slappping a bitch

  • @moonbling63 Hahahahahaha

  • Judging this by the thing this guy say,, I have now reached a conclution.

    Bass is frikkin dangerous!

  • Thank you so much, this is the type of lesson that is usefull. It's all in the wrist. Than you so so much.

  • Good Lesson, thx man! ;)

  • @BondageNoJutsu well hes a bassist of course it is

  • This is the best lesson on how to contact the string correctly I have ever seen. It works and it is simple.

  • His middle finger on the "G" string XD

  • hermoso bajo

  • My Kid and I loved this lesson. I liked the way you had the snare in the back ground. made scene to us in order to keep your rhythm. Keep doing them no matter what these other folks say.

    Thanks!!

  • Stu Hamm with the "Bassics" HAHHAAHAHA

  • who else thought he said "that fucking sound"?

  • Stu Hamm is a legend.

Ever heard of Steve Vai or Joe Satriani?

  • wasnt this guy in a band

  • ''go home and..'' this is youtube lol

and my bass is on my lap :L

  • could someoone please explain to me what g's and e's mean and stuff like that?

  • @chilibro as i notice you dont know, i figure you speak english as second lenguage, those letters are the translation from the comon: SI, LA , SOL , FA, MI , RE , Y DO respectivamente.

  • @chilibro Names of the string. Go to google images and type 'bass strings' and you should find a picture that shows you what the strings are.

  • Lol, Stu Hamm

  • lol...'here. we. go.'

  • Excellent teaching and instruction! And all free! I'm shopping for a bass I'm an intermediate accoustic guitarist. Any recomendations? Thank you and God bless.

  • I'll get my middle finger on the G-string all right.

  • well i have a 5 string bass and i wanna learn how to play slap bass...is there a difference between using a 5-string and a 4-string?

  • You are assuming beginners would know an E minor pentatonic????

  • @g4geetar just look the pattern up, it's pretty easy.

  • @Ignore14: I'm not looking to learn as I already know the pentatonic scale. What I'm saying is a good teacher is not one with the knowledge but one who can pass it on by clear & concise way. I don't know any beginners who would know what an E minor pentatonic scale was. What you should say is these notes are what is called the pentatonic scale and what its purpose is.

  • @g4geetar unfortunately it's still one of least assuming slap/pop lessons i've seen

i've seen some just that are like... just play this 0_o

it's honestly easier just to learn the octave technique and do it over whatever scale you prefer

this is the first instance ever been told to use a Emin pentatonic in funk :/

  • @g4geetar Music Theory takes care of allllll of that :)

  • Comment removed

  • @g4geetar They should. ha

  • @btriona92 ha ha....first thing a beginner should learn is how to tune their bass, 2nd the name of strings, 3rd the notes. Never known a teacher start with scales only a bad one!

  • @g4geetar did you read the video title?

  • @enslavedbyhumans YEP, lessons for beginners. A beginner would not know the pentatonic scale. Only bad teachers make assumptions and miss out vital elements.

  • @g4geetar

The pentatonic scale is like the first thing I learned

  • @LeechHat What a crap tutor you had. The very first thing before playing a single note should be to show you hand and thumb position so you don't cause any irreversible ligament damage. After that it should be notes on the 4th and 3rd string that's not to say the others aren't important but it's the fundamentals. Then it's learning one finger per fret or the Simandl method for those who have small fingers.

  • @g4geetar no kidding. I'm effing lost.

  • @g4geetar he's constantly on the verge of having a heart attack.. give him a break okay?

  • thank you for explaining this so thoroughly! nothing else has!

  • YEAH MAFAKA BASS SLAPPA

  • thank you a lot, this really helped !

  • Nice, this helps. The guy has an AWESOME sounding bass, btw.

  • ATTENTION PLEASE:Can U teach me how to slap on ass.I mean I know that but need some more techniques.

  • @Joashgamit *bass lmao

  • very nice. I liked the fact that you show how to play scales, cause I personally have no clue how they work, so it helped a lot. Thank you.

  • awesome!

  • slappin da bass mon

  • slappa da bass

  • i really dont get how to do that

  • I took a shot at it,and I'll put it on FAILBLOG. . .

    Hehehe. . .

  • great lesson! you have the best lessons on youtube! thank you!

  • eww

    a

    dead

    guy

  • My first bass lesson, and it was really fun,and I felt like I learned something!Thank you so much! I play some guitar

  • what is em pentatonic..i mean wat to press.....whch fret??

  • @engyak47 It looks like he's playing: E G A B D E for the scale. So in frets that would be...

    (E string)- 0 (E), 3 (G), 5 (A), 7 (B)

    (A string)- 5 (D), then 7 (E).

Those are the low notes only, just add in an octave after each note and I'm pretty sure that's what he's playing.

  • @jessicanaruti ooooooooooooohhhh that helps a lot..im a beginner super beginner..its damn hard!!but enjoying the bass sound..keke

    + 1 more q>>u mean add in 1 octave is shifting e>0357 starting from 1st fret=F? pretending like there's a capo in the 1st fret??sorryyyy..

  • @jessicanaruti yep, good ole Eminor. He claimed Eminor Petatonic would be your 'buddy', but in reality it's your damn best friend! After getting this down, you should do the full Eminor (E Aeolian/G Ionian/A Dorian is awesome too)

  • its all in the wrist, at least thats what she said ;)

  • for lessons it might be better to have marks on ur frets

i mean those dots on the 3,5,7,9,12(double),15,17,19,21,24(double)

know what i mean? so beginners like me wont have to count frets to discover where to play it =)

  • what i do to remember the strings because i used to play violin, i remember like, good-day, G-D-A-E, i really hope thats right XD i haven't played in a while some1 correct me if i'm wrong.

  • @TheDragonGothic

    i use eat all dead girls----e a d g

  • @xReIDNaX

  • @MrElement4 Yes its easy. Now I know how to slap :D .Im so happy.

  • Wow, you're a genius. Who could have ever figured that out on their own? Hitting a string with your thumb. Making contact with a string using your thumb. Pure genius!! Brilliant!!!! A million(thumbs) up for you. You must be a major rock star.

  • @BellumSacrumBellum28

    hahaha hooray for sarcasm

  • Thanks a lot, man!!! This was my first bass lesson, and I really enjoyed it. Thanks ;-)

  • Your bass lessons are great!!

  • Holy crap is that bass off-tune!

Not a lot, but just a little bit that

    it's really annoying.

  • @Nuclearbomb8900 I slightly agree, the A-string seems a bit off, but who really cares...? =P

  • Best beginners bass video on youtube by a mile.

    Thanks for posting it.

  • lol look at the angle of his thumb its nearly bent to 90 degrees!!! :D

  • on which axis?

  • takes a bit of practice? ;~; looks hard Dx like tapping 3;

  • that sounds kewl, but i have trouble playin it, lol. i just cant hit a string with my thumb. i like to pluck...

  • plucking is grand dude but slap sounds waaay better, practice tapping ur thumb on ur knee, steering wheel, office desk! eventually u wont be so stiff. another tip is try not to look at the strings when ur poppin/slappin only focus on left hand power(if ur right handed) took me almost a year to get it down

  • You just said you use your finger on a g string :D

  • LMAO!!! =p

  • do you have any video that teach you reggae notes ?

  • cant get that into my thick skull i fail :/

  • he totally flipped us all off 3:26 ;)
