@bryanandrew369 dont know if someone already responded. but from what I have heard is that it keeps them from accidentally losing control during landing. not sure. TOC does the same thing,
This is so bad ass.... There are no words. I saw one of these unlimited planes at the Toledo show earlier this year and never know a gasser could go 200+ Puts my little nitro planes to shame. I don't think I could get away with flying something like this at our airfield, but it's good to dream. Maybe I can't get to a 2011 event, but would like to do a 2012...
Why did it look like they all landed with the props not turning? Did they shut the motor down, or do those motors disengage the props? Please explain. Thanks.
@applianceemt They dead stick land them because there propped for speed. They cant get there airspeed low enough with them running for a easy landing.
@OzParkPilot - the bigger planes (Unlimited Class) are using alcohol/nitro engines ranging from 150 - 300+cc . Currently (2009 -2010) the DA-150s are getting pretty fast. Current speeds are in the 220-240 mph bracket
The next class down; Formula 1 alcohol/nitro is 80cc, mostly Zenoah twins. Current speeds are around 180+ mph
Other classes use simular & smaller engines, some alcohol, some gas.
I don't really see the excitement of going on circles
