AWESOME!!!what more can i say?those were the days....I was a little boy as i heard LENE LOVICH for the 1st time.great performer and her voice makes me shiver.but songs like THIS they NEVER die!!!please more from this stuff!!!!
thanks 4 the upload!cheers from vienna/but now from the usa.
Many of these songs remind us of a simpler time when we were all younger and enjoying the vast creativity that came from Europe, synth bands, etc ... of the early 80s ... perhaps it is the simpleness of that time that we long for. Class of 83' Chinguacousy SS Brampton, ON. Cheers!!!
The original was done by a band called The Meteors. My friend and I bought their album back in '81 and loved this song. Then we turned on MTV and Lene Lovich was singing it and we were SCREAMING! Her voice is very similar to Hazel O'Connor.
@MarkSentMe There used to be a short film on You Tube (since pulled) of The Meteors performing this song. In the back of the hall, you can see Lene Lovich and Les Chappell diggin' the song. Wish it hadn't been pulled; it was pretty cool.
igualita igualita que la gran Mercedes Seros contandole al Graff von Ratibor Ambassador der Reich en Madrid los secretos de la France e invitandole junto al Admiral Canaris a admirarla en el Eden Concert de 1918 ¡ MERCEDES SEROS grande de la cancion española...her reincarnation is my dear LENE LOVICH in this video
Do have any idea how long I have hunted for this video? Thanks for posting! I remember as a teen getting my first glimpse of MTV. This was one of the first videos that I ever saw. Definitely lost 80's gold.
I fell out the first time I saw this video on MTV! My friends and I found an album by the band The Meteors who did the original version of this song. So when Ms Lovich made it cool, we were ecstatic!
Along with Birdsong and Angels this is Lene at her best! I adore this woman! Although her newest album packs quite a wollop especially Wicked Witch! And Adie this song is for you!
Oh, I agree with you. I'm Hispanic, not Spanish, my self (South America) and there are plenty blue eyes blonds. I considered myself white (not caucasian) and my parents said I had blue eyes till around 4 yrs old. So we're in agreement. I was guessing to her intentions, not mine. I apologize if I offended you. Anyway, I still like the song
This brings me back to my times in high school as well and also listening to the worlds famous KROQ 106.7 FM this music era makes me glow all the time and keeps me lifted. Class of 1986 Bell Gardens High school.. "KROQ rock of the eighties"
In high school ... long time ago.. I was so crazy for this song and the visuals assoicated with it. In the New-Wave clubs they played this song and as many have posted K-ROQ (The Rock of The 80s) would play this as well along with bands that as I look back now created a sound and music revolution with visual, synth-pop, and mass media promotions...still going on...thanks Lene...you are awsome.
Oh God, Americans and there obsession with nazi's. Look in the mirror Americans, the reason why you are so sensitive to nazism, is because it hits so close to home. Americans are by far the most fascistic leaning people in the western world. You condone violence on unprecendent level then you espouse hatred towrds the thing you resemble most. Hypocrites. Violent society, with a country that glorifies murder and viloence in movies/ video games, etc. The highest murder per capita western world.
@jeancocteau1 We're just here listening to music. Attacking Americans now? Way to make assumptions about an entire country. Just shut up and enjoy the music. Go to some political channel to whine about Americans.
@jeancocteau1 Just enjoy the music and stop being a hater. The U.S. is the most adverse country in the world. That's why every one loves and envies the U.S.A. #1
WE ARE THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND WERE PROUD OF IT :) Peace out.
@henrythebootleger , yeah whatever. sorry to see that you have been seriously brainwashed by the system. come World War III the united states of america will get EXACTLY what it deserves. so speak to the hand.
@jeancocteau1 Was just here to hear this great song, . .. but I have to agree with your post. There are the "America is the greatest blah blah" camp and people like you, and I'm agreeing more and more with people like you everyday.
Boy, these were some times ! When you could tune in your radio or watch VH-1 and catch amazing artist's like Lene doing artistic material like this ! How I wish todays time's were like the early 80's "sigh" Nothing before of since has ever been quite this good IMO.
@erzazerzaz From the left: the ribbon is house of Castellon, medal from the Federalists. The second is the Battle of the Massacre of the Moors. I'm kidding, I have no fucking clue. I figured Fascist + Spanish Lady mantilla + bald head = Franco. O don't see Nazi anywhere here.
@clod8 The band (and singer) that originally wrote and recorded this song, The Meteors, were from the Netherlands and Dutch is a Germanic language. And perhaps poetic license was taken? That'd be my guess.
This is one of my favorite New Wave Songs. She came to Austin during her No-Mans-Land tour at the Austin Opry House. That was the place to see concerts back then. She was awesome. I loved how she blasted around the stage dancing. And the audience was dancing too. Concerts arent the same today, not like the energy of a New Wave Concert. Man, I am glad to have experienced that in my life, and to have see great artist like Lena in the 80's.
@MoonbeamLevels80 To my knowledge, 'No Man's Land' is not avail on cd. I've been watching for it for many years. I've several compilations that much of the music, but not the whole album, unfortunately.
I first discovered this song in August 1996 on a secondhand copy of Ronco's 'Raiders of the Pop Charts' album. It hasn't aged at all (28 years old) and should have deserved a higher position on the UK singles chart (#68 it got to, you tone deaf lot).
George Gimarc had a show called "The Rock and Roll Alternative" and he played the coolest 80s music, from Duran Duran to Lene Lovich to Minimal Compact! Great music days! Now I remember where I heard the line, "I know what I want and I'm sure i can get it"!
Thank you for posting this video and editing it so the audio is closer to the album version. Back in the day, she really was a hottie in addition to being enormously talented.
Stateless; Flex; No Man's Land: each a good two years ahead of its time, and all worth buying complete in preference to compilations or cherrypicked iTunes. Lene particularly lovely here.
No Man's Land was issued on clear vinyl 'Half-Speed-Master' series - it sounded as clear and as flawless as MP3/CD - only DYNAMIC (unlike most compressed sound encoding systems) I ought to know the base on it blew a pair of my best speakers!!! Happy days indeed - when Stiff was record label and not a description of the way the artist mimed!!
This reminds me of my high school years listening to 106.7fm KROQ. I love this song, it almost gives tears of joy. I wish I was young again. I'm class of 1986 Belmont high in Los Angeles
@henrythebootleger I totally agree with you. Remember the good old days then? Richard Blade, Freddy Snakeskin, The Poorman, Dusty Street, The Sweedish Egel, and a much younger Jed the Fish.......I'm Class of 1987 Roosevelt High.....
I like this version because it's closer to the original album version. Thank you for posting. Lene Lovich is one of the most beautiful and talented artists.
