I was just in your old home town the other day at a quince (they celebrated 16) at a church on Ely street, junction of Main and Albany, Im sure hartford brings back some memories for u bro :)
Yeah, that was my DJ name,,was never crazy about it, so I like intromix better. This was one of 5 great college radio stations back in the day, and the ONLY way for us in Connecticut to hear underground/mainstream Rap and Hip Hop,,our commercial radio stations were shit,,NOTHING like 98.7 Kiss or WBLS at all, just suburban sorry BS,,let's put it this way,,when I first heard "Jam On It" on commercial radio here in 1984,,I kept checking my boombox to see if the dial was wrong,, I was SHOCKED!!!!
We in the NYC area had 2 hot college stations. B91 in Brooklyn (Kingsborough College) and 89.1 on Friday or Sat. night (NYU). B91 was 24/7 and Tommy Musto used to mix there. It was better to listen to than even KTU, Kiss or BLS. What happened to those days?
So I met the DJ at 91.7FM WHUS in the Uconn campus in CT that brought us the music I listened to (later called Rap/Hip Hop) he spun in 1982 and always had the newest records and underground hits. His name was Doctor Nine and when I record ended, he would have his voice come on with echo right before the next record and it would sound like,, DJ-J-J Doctor-r-r-r-r-r 9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9-9 and I was like "OH SHIT!!" I was hooked ever since so I submit my app in 1990 and go my own spot online
