Had something like that at my old high school 3-4 years ago. We thought it was gross, and I think it didn't do well. The vending machine people gave out free samples probably trying to convince us it was not bad food.
I don't know why it got negative feedback. If you are willing to eat microwavable food, then this is the same exact thing.
I used to eat something from these machines on the ferry - it was good, especially if you eat it outside and do not smell it.
