When I think of death metal I think this way; Music with a 50% melody voice and 50% of scream and growl. Also I think of really dark instrumental music that makes my skin rise out of my body. Easier explained; music with a lot of emotion in vocal and instrument. A lot of emotion from them all fitting togheter. But when I hear this I really don't get the feeling. Maybe other people feel the way I feel towards this music but I wish there were some music that could make me crash.
@KristoferAndersson so you think of gay emos, nice... lol, no, I'm joking, well, it's not simple to get the feeling of old school death metal because it's muffled and hidden, it's something it grows on you with time, and when you can notice it well it becomes amazing and sweet, differently than lot of bands masking their feeling with the sound or with cool artifacts. btw when i think of death metal i think of rotting, grim, agressive, nostalgic and ancient sounds, not what you imagine at all. :)
@KristoferAndersson you're basically summing up black metal with some of your points and when you think of death metal you should be thinking of old school bands like morgoth or death thats real death metal.
Love the intro but I find the drums unfitting... Everythings so dark and gritty and the drums feel all up-beat... My opinion, but I've been finding great stuff ever since I found your channel mate.
I think I've gone the traditional route. Get into the super brutal stuff, realised 90% of the modern Br00tal bands are crap and started listening to old school stuff. Love the album covers and music from the early 90's.
@mkmoloch wrong, finnish death metal is different from swedish death metal, swedish death is melodic and it's not unusual to have ultra-fat buzzsaw guitar tones with, finnish death has got more of an obscure, twisted and spiritual sound that often deals with a little black and especially doom metal mood and the guitar have usually few mid tones. plus, the genre spawned in the two countries pretty much at the same time. btw it's obvious that the two scenes shared influences.
@MelinusMargos Actually no, Swedish Death Metal wasn't Melodic until the Gothenburg tone came around in the early 90's with bands like At The Gates. Then the majority of the Stockholm tone bands either died out or became Melodic Death Metal bands. Bands like Therion, Hypocrisy, Edge Of Sanity and such began with a not so Melodic tone. Bands like Grave, Unleashed, Centinex, Carnage, God Macabre, Seance, Tiamat etc all began with the Stockhom grind style. I would say that Finland had more variety.
@MelinusMargos Well every Finnish Death Metal band has Melody as well, even if they progress into multiple time signatures within a song. Listen to Old School Swedish Death Metal then listen to Finnish bands like Mordicus, Demigod, Adramelech, Amorphis, Funebre, Depravity, Convulse, Sentenced, Abhorrence etc etc etc... Sure you have bands like Xysma and Demelich, but for the most part all the bands follow the same patterns along with Swedish Death Metal.
damn if it wasnt for u xysmicexecration i would have never fell so much in love with these vybes and beats finish death has damn i bought a couple of cds thanks to ur videos too man happy to see someone actually knows there music
I love how so much Finnish death metal is so powerful and graceless, but beautiful at the same time. It is a quality nearly all other scenes are lacking, in my opinion.
Sadly, I had bought "Member of Immortal Damnation" at a time when I was somehow overfed with Metal of any kind and really abstained from it for a few years, so I sold it again rather quickly after having bought it. Coming back to this song now, I must say I regret it, for it may not be one of the greatest Death Metal songs I know from the top of my head, but it is really, really good never the less.
damn xysmiceexecration u know alott about death metal as well as me man thats sick!! finding somone that knows alott like you thanx for posting videos man and about the comment u posted about bands splitting up i get u man i wonder the same thing like this band purtenance only laste 2 years togethor which is kind of a trip for playing heavy ass music back n the day
For some reason, I would have to say, this album cover artwork is excellent. And, on other matters the song is great, so, thank you XysmicExecration for having all these bands available for us to watch, truly grateful. \m/
We have beautiful DM scene in Finland, but imo it's so unseen because we are not good in marketing it. If you understand what I mean. Not marketing for become mainstream but marketing to be well-revered and noticed.
Finnish bands were well presented in the mags back in the old days, and are it today aswell. Bands like this will forever belong in the underground culture, where they should. Those who seek it, will find it.
@XysmicExecration I agree if someone wants to they'll find bands like these and then search for more after getting a taste which is good for the underground scene.
@brutalictesku well you should listen to a Finnish DM band called Scarm. search for them at here in Youtube. they are really going to be something. they are now selling their first record called "Circle"
As Xysmic said, the Finnish scene was always noticed and known to those who were truly interested in death metal to begin with. This style of death metal should always remain buried and covered in maggots - underground!
@brutalictesku Your death metal scene used to be excellent back in the 90's. All I keep hearing from people is how much better the early Swedish scene was. I don't think the same as them.
Early Swedish scene was great too, but undeniably the better known and more influential one. I wouldn't really want to choose between those two scenes, or any scene. I rather savour of them all .

Yeah, good luck with that... if you're a vinyl guy you just missed the boxed set discography released by The Crypt.
I was actually lucky enough to be rummaging around an estate where there were many underground records for sale and came upon a perfect condition original Drowned LP pressing of "Members of Immortal Damnation" & Necrophiliac's "Chaopula: Citadel of Mirrors" for $15 each.
But that luck is rare, you just gotta keep looking in the right places.

The Europeans always a step ahead of America when it came to music. Like Kreator, Pestilence, and Carcass. Heavier, Faster, and humorous with their lyrics. Though I live in Canada where I can't name one good Death Metal band that I like. America has Death, Possessed, and more Death.
I don't know about that. Both European and American scene have endlessly inspired each other. From the dawn of times; Jimi Hendrix, Steppen Wolf, Black Sabbath. Metallica and Iron Maiden. Slayer, Possessed, Kreator, Sodom, Celtic Frost Bathory. And then finally Death metal and Grindcore. America had Repulsion and Death and Europe Napalm Death and Carcass. American have always had a different approach in Metal, but I wouldn't necessarily say, that Europe would have always been a step ahead.
I would say the europeans of course were one step ahead. Black Sabbath actually says it all. If that didn't happen none of it would until later. Also Bathory and Kreator also hit my Music needs of simple fast music with cool vocalists.
true that its just a matter of choice, but since I like heavier stuff a little bit more, i would have to say that america inspired europe----to being better than america
And well. Canada has some important bands too ; Slaughter, Oblivion, Gorguts and Cryptopsy atleast. But it is ofcourse a matter of taste ,whether you like it or not. I like Canadian DM/ Deathrash scene a lot + Some thrash bands like Voivod and Razor.
Alice in Hell is a classic. I think Neverland is a good album too. But after that, they didn't do much for the thrash genre. Overall, I'd have to say Razor is probably my favorite Canadian band.
No mikäli eBayssä olen pyörinyt, niin on usein kyllä puolet halvemmallakin huudettu. . .
One of my favorite albums and songs. I picked up this album used for 6$ because I thought the cover art was cool. Needless to say, it was one of the best purchases of my life. This is the way death metal should sound.
That is a pretty damn expensive. Congrats on that too. I am sure, that for those who value the old-school death metal, such as you and I, really find it worth the money.
Well, my opinion is that nothing beats Old-School DM, not even Old-School BM. DM didn't and doesn't have the cancer of trve kvltism, and that helped DM to develope freely in many beautiful forms. Ofcourse, deathcore for example, is the an experiment gone wrong, when we are speaking of developement of DM
Expression is great but take a page from the old testament of death metal, when the simple motivations of the changing society sparked controversy and hate among these talents men who created something so few appreciate and in many ways, hold a more accurate look at society and it's downfalls. It isn't about the distortion or how technical or brutal you can be its about the soul that drives this music into our souls and keeps us true to the metal faith and to ourselves. Hail the legends of Death
Thank you so much for uploading a band too often forgotten (guilty myself). This song completely defines the wonderous time that was the late 80's early 90's Death metal. The first half especially always get my blood flowing and sends my mind into relaxation with the subtle bass and precision guitar. Too often teens getting into metal; and death metal forget to look at the roots and miss out on the bands that many of us still consider the elite and only bands worth listening to. Hail to you sir
Thank you for your great comment. Old School Death Metal really had the magic. Ideas were fresh back then and the production levels worse. But those are the incredients for good metal. Today it's all about finding new ways to express oneself more brutally and technically, and often, with bad consequences. Good Metal , however, lies in the dark and misty roots. Simple riffs, short leads, subtle bass, adequately distorted guitars, right variation of tempos.
Agree 100% It's funny however, that you say adequately distorted guitars. It may have been the best they had back in the day, but they seemed to be able to put more brutality and raw engery with every cord with 'adequate' distortion then many of the new bands with the distortion levels double what they used to be. I think the soul of Death metal has faded with the legends and the new bands of today can only grasp onto a small portion of what made this music so great.
American death metal think is not only : obituary ,cancer,massacre..there s other bands underground plays so ditry (doomly) death metal GOATLORD,MYTHIC,SORROW,DVC,INFESTER,HARUSPEX,DERKETA,ROTTREVOR...
i m crazy by swedsh and finnish death metal too,but i don t like whn people tell swe or finnish death metal fukk usa metal, impossible to do comparison
ahahah yes u are true they are from uk,fuuukk all this years that i thinking that cancer from usa but they are not may be becouse of james murphy was on obituary, death, disincarnate, testament(cancer too) and all was from usa cause of that i was sure that cancer too from usa

The Europeans always a step ahead of America when it came to music. Like Kreator, Pestilence, and Carcass. Heavier, Faster, and humorous with their lyrics. Though I live in Canada where I can't name one good Death Metal band that I like. America has Death, Possessed, and more Death.
FeastedUpon 3 years ago
I don't know about that. Both European and American scene have endlessly inspired each other. From the dawn of times; Jimi Hendrix, Steppen Wolf, Black Sabbath. Metallica and Iron Maiden. Slayer, Possessed, Kreator, Sodom, Celtic Frost Bathory. And then finally Death metal and Grindcore. America had Repulsion and Death and Europe Napalm Death and Carcass. American have always had a different approach in Metal, but I wouldn't necessarily say, that Europe would have always been a step ahead.
XysmicExecration 3 years ago
I would say the europeans of course were one step ahead. Black Sabbath actually says it all. If that didn't happen none of it would until later. Also Bathory and Kreator also hit my Music needs of simple fast music with cool vocalists.
TallicaMan1986 3 years ago 2
I like Razor and everything it's just the vocalist. They have kick ass riffs.
TallicaMan1986 3 years ago
true that its just a matter of choice, but since I like heavier stuff a little bit more, i would have to say that america inspired europe----to being better than america

Your forgetting Bolt Thrower too.
VoodooFlintstone 2 years ago

I replied to you on my other account.

SLAUGHTER
Jakkkkkkkk 2 years ago
what about maytr or beneath the massacre??
Discreetarcher3 2 years ago
Gorguts is a good death metal band from Canada. Canada has some KILLER thrash like Annihilator, Razor, Infernal Majesty, Sacrifice, and Slaughter.

Yes. Let's not forget about Voivod. Especially the album Rrroooaaarrr. Classic!
fknturd 2 years ago 2
They had the BEST thrash, on level with Germany in my opinion...
Razor is one of my all time favs, along side SLAUGHTER!!!!!!!
I'm the Dealer! Dealing DEATH!
Also an early great DM band from Canada is CRYPTOPSY, all hail the Ungentle Exhumation demo.
This stuf is very much like INCANTATION... I think.

yeah but annihilator is really overrated... the only album that really thrashes is alice in hell... a couple others are ok
sodomisticthrash 2 years ago 2
Alice in Hell is a classic. I think Neverland is a good album too. But after that, they didn't do much for the thrash genre. Overall, I'd have to say Razor is probably my favorite Canadian band.

mahtavaa! saisin tän albumin 130e.kannattaako ostaa vai jätänkä kaupan hyllylle pölyttymään?

No mikäli eBayssä olen pyörinyt, niin on usein kyllä puolet halvemmallakin huudettu. . .

One of my favorite albums and songs. I picked up this album used for 6$ because I thought the cover art was cool. Needless to say, it was one of the best purchases of my life. This is the way death metal should sound.

I got the cd and tape for 140$
14Arsonist88 3 years ago
That is a pretty damn expensive. Congrats on that too. I am sure, that for those who value the old-school death metal, such as you and I, really find it worth the money.
XysmicExecration 3 years ago
If you dont like this band you're faggot!
14Arsonist88 3 years ago
I uploaded this song. Where's your logic ?
XysmicExecration 3 years ago
Not speaking about you lol I shoed this song to people earlier and they said it was average
14Arsonist88 3 years ago
Oh
Well, it really is above average. You're right there
We all have our taste which should be respected, but we don't really need any dethkore-enthusiast to tell, how much this band sucks.

RoccoLentini 3 years ago
FUCK. I just rated this 4 when I meant to click 5. This is the first time I've heard this song, and it is easily one of my favorite songs ever now.
Nothing like some oldschool metal to make you feel alive and dead at the same time.
SamDaMan013 3 years ago
Great to know, that you liked it
And don't worry about the false rating. with 33 rates of five star average , it hardly matters =)
XysmicExecration 3 years ago
I subscribed to you because of this haha.
Gonna go try to find somewhere to get their albums, so good..
SamDaMan013 3 years ago
That's going to be extremely hard . . .
But I wish you best of luck in your search
Some label should really make a re-issue of this masterpiece.

Nothing besides old school BM beats old school DM, that new Death Metal with the Vocals sounding like a man taking a Shit, Sucks.
SEAHAGS76 3 years ago
Well, my opinion is that nothing beats Old-School DM, not even Old-School BM. DM didn't and doesn't have the cancer of trve kvltism, and that helped DM to develope freely in many beautiful forms. Ofcourse, deathcore for example, is the an experiment gone wrong, when we are speaking of developement of DM

Old school fuckin death metal, HELLLLLL YEAHHHHHHHH
INFLAMESowns 3 years ago
Expression is great but take a page from the old testament of death metal, when the simple motivations of the changing society sparked controversy and hate among these talents men who created something so few appreciate and in many ways, hold a more accurate look at society and it's downfalls. It isn't about the distortion or how technical or brutal you can be its about the soul that drives this music into our souls and keeps us true to the metal faith and to ourselves. Hail the legends of Death
LtSphinx 3 years ago 2
Thank you so much for uploading a band too often forgotten (guilty myself). This song completely defines the wonderous time that was the late 80's early 90's Death metal. The first half especially always get my blood flowing and sends my mind into relaxation with the subtle bass and precision guitar. Too often teens getting into metal; and death metal forget to look at the roots and miss out on the bands that many of us still consider the elite and only bands worth listening to. Hail to you sir
LtSphinx 3 years ago
Thank you for your great comment. Old School Death Metal really had the magic. Ideas were fresh back then and the production levels worse. But those are the incredients for good metal. Today it's all about finding new ways to express oneself more brutally and technically, and often, with bad consequences. Good Metal , however, lies in the dark and misty roots. Simple riffs, short leads, subtle bass, adequately distorted guitars, right variation of tempos.
XysmicExecration 3 years ago
Agree 100% It's funny however, that you say adequately distorted guitars. It may have been the best they had back in the day, but they seemed to be able to put more brutality and raw engery with every cord with 'adequate' distortion then many of the new bands with the distortion levels double what they used to be. I think the soul of Death metal has faded with the legends and the new bands of today can only grasp onto a small portion of what made this music so great.

Komiaa.
Itteltäkin luonnistuu jo muutama Xysman klassikko "Above the Mind . .." Ep:ltä
Mistä hitosta kuulet, millä vireellä ne soittaa
?
XysmicExecration 3 years ago
