A lot of people need to lighten up. Anyone who has spent real time training in a martial art has a few screws loose and needs to vent in one form or another, this is two guys clearly doing that. Ive done Judo all my life and if I saw two kendo guys trying to throw each other wildly in the dojo Id enjoy the spectacle rather than be concerned about what the gods of respect will cast down upon me.

These guys are clearly joking around also if you were to find yourself in a real fight (dojo or street) you wouldn't know what technique the other guy knows and there wouldn't be any rules in the street. That's a real fight. To really see whats effective you need less rules and the unknown. Despite all the ceremony samurai practiced I doubt they exchanged a list of techniques or had a rules meeting before a fight.
For all those nay-sayers who don't think a sword is effective in ground fighting, they've obviously never actually used one. A katana is extremely effective even during ground fighting where movement is restricted.

You must understand the history. MMA is for fighting. Traditional martial arts under go periods of good and bad. First they were for fighting, and they worked in history, battles, fighting. But as guns came about, and unarmed combat was no longer needed, Asia kept their fighting styles alive, but there was no "warriors" walking around anymore. So Martia larts tought mostly to make better people, not better fighters.

As a Judo Player and a newbie at Kendo I find this totally magnificent!!! Once they get in there is no backing out for more sword attacks... They go right into hand-to-hand combat until it finishes! This is how I see true combat!
Doing this without mats seems unfair to the Judoka. I thinks its a fun idea though, cause I'm interested in the links between Judo and Kendoka, like Atemi waza. I think this shows the draw backs to not cross training in either art. Seems to me the Judo tactic would be to just do a small men, get into tsuba zeriai and then drop the sword and use atemi and/or throw the kendoka down. But again no mats mean the judoka have to hold back. Great fighting spirit from the judo guys.
This is just stick flighting without technic or composure.. In Kendo you dont hit people in the back.. And you dont celebrate points.. and you sure as fuck don't do armbars. This is just swinging a stick like a animal.

Yeah your right, I did'nt watch right to the end. In defense of the Kendoka, the big judo guy is ignoring any hit he takes. And a swordfight is over in 1-2 strikes, so whaling at the opponent is not a real option. Also, the Kendoka is not using the thrust to the neck, which is the best way to stop someone charging while swinging wildly.

You must learn some history please. MMA uses traditional martial arts in them. Pretty much anytime anyone throws a kick... Jujitsu is traditional Japanese martial art, Judo, MuayThai. Lyoto Machida lol

@GuamKomudo Lyoto Machida does not use karate. He's not karate chopping ppl using the fixed stances u find in karate. He's kickboxing, wrestling, bjj like most ppl because thats what wrks. If you search Gracie vs or bjj vs you'll find plenty of videos of them beating traditional arts. U must learn some history please. Bjj is not traditional Japanese jiu jitsu. The term jiujitsu in Japan was used to described many different styles of unarmed combat. Nobody in mma uses arts like wing chun, kung fu

@GuamKomudo monkeystyle kung fu, wushu etc because most of those big sweeping punches and kicks and flashy moves that look great in dojo's, competition, and film don't work in fights. The closest thing to traditional martial arts I've seen in mma is Cung le and even he uses only the practical techniques. As for your Gracie vs Samurai argument that's just dumb and not worth wasting time on. Watch even one Akido video on you tube and you'll see y traditional arts are marginalized.

Judo is what Kano Jigoro called the new system he developed. Judo is a streamlining and formalization of the many styles of fighting that were in Japan. He took out the more deadly moves as it was being taught to policeman and civilians. "All they did was do it on tv". Just like you that's retarded.

Because they didn't hide behind tradition or make the outrageous claims that traditional arts do of giving people superhuman ability. They got in the ring, cage and fought and won. They also had many fights in their dojo and on the streets long before the UFC. DO YOUR research kid. I don't see any drunkin fist fighters or karate guys doing that.

If it didn't work when your rolling around on the ground on a battle field... They would have noticed when they all died... You cannot tell the difference between "traditional martial arts" and movies... You see movies and think that is what it is...

@GuamKomudo just don't apply in a fight. Especially against a trained opponent. Finger strikes and catching punches in mid air and fixed stances will get you hurt. Traditional martial artist are angry because they realized that they devoted so much time to fighting styles that don't work in fights.

You must understand the history. MMA is for fighting. Traditional martial arts under go periods of good and bad. First they were for fighting, and they worked in history, battles, fighting. But as guns came about, and unarmed combat was no longer needed, Asia kept their fighting styles alive, but there was no "warriors" walking around anymore. So Martia larts tought mostly to make better people, not better fighters.

As a Judo Player and a newbie at Kendo I find this totally magnificent!!! Once they get in there is no backing out for more sword attacks... They go right into hand-to-hand combat until it finishes! This is how I see true combat!

Doing this without mats seems unfair to the Judoka. I thinks its a fun idea though, cause I'm interested in the links between Judo and Kendoka, like Atemi waza. I think this shows the draw backs to not cross training in either art. Seems to me the Judo tactic would be to just do a small men, get into tsuba zeriai and then drop the sword and use atemi and/or throw the kendoka down. But again no mats mean the judoka have to hold back. Great fighting spirit from the judo guys.

Kendo = live training against resisting opponents
Judo = Live training against resisting opponents
I wager someone who studies both and actively combines them will be a far more effective fighter with and without a bladed weapon than someone who studies a dead art like classical Jujutsu or Kenjutsu.

Yeah your right, I did'nt watch right to the end. In defense of the Kendoka, the big judo guy is ignoring any hit he takes. And a swordfight is over in 1-2 strikes, so whaling at the opponent is not a real option. Also, the Kendoka is not using the thrust to the neck, which is the best way to stop someone charging while swinging wildly.
