Now sell them on the internet for 50 bucks a pop and you'll be like every other internet company that sells survival kits! Wait wait, if you call in the next ten minutes Ill send you two for the price of one! Just pay additional handling!
Nice, but IMHO natural wood is a very inefficient fuel for emergency situations. For the same volume/weight, you can take synthetic materials like bicycle inner tubing, which burns very long and is waterproof by itself. You can tie off the ends and put your lighter and other stuff inside, that way you have a waterproof container that is also your firestarter.
sound wisdom.when i was 12 i read about mountain men or indians who picked up dry grass and other kindling and kept it for fire starting.since then when i go hunting or walking in bush i carry dry grass,lint,matches,candle,flint/steel,wood chips(from self-bow making)twigs and small hardwood split(like u made).my country boy friends laughed at me carring rope,hatchet,knife,6v flashlight, gun &pack, when hunting, they only carried a gun and a few shells.no water, not even a knife, they gut it at camp.
That's a big fire kit lol....but it's always a case of what works for you not us. I had an idea while watching this video, that maybe get an elctric plane and make a load of wood shavings, then vacpac those. I guess you could get lots in and then vac it down to a realy thin package. I'm still very envious of that machine...I want one but can't justify it lol....Maybe I need to tell the Mrs that she needs one ;-)
I would have put some strips of inner tube in there as well. They can be lit w/ a match, and burn really hot even in the rain, and can also be used for signaling on a small basis due to the black smoke. Great kit though. 5/5
