I just want to let you know you are an amazing, beautiful woman. I have so much appreciation for what you are doing, trying to educate the public on cerebral palsy. I've done a lot of research on CP, and there's alot about the condition people don't know about. Keep it up, hon!
HI , I just wanted to say that you are a really incredible person and you are really beautifull! I have just finished reading the book "My left foot" by late Christy Brown and got interested in c.p. You are very lucky to have people around who love and support you and I wish you all the best! May God bless you, for HE loves you always just the way he has created you! Take care!
my older sister called Ashleigh who is also 21 has cerebral palsy, i'm currently making a documentary on her life for college, because like you said people just assume that you arent "normal" but i want to prove that no-one is.. and i amire your work so much! you are doing amazingly! please keep up the good work.
Thank You. From Rebekah And Ashleigh in Scotland :)
Would you be able to use a walker that goes in the front or would that not work because of your arms being tight. If not, that could be a good thing to look into!
@iNuggetify yes, but since I don't walk very far, getting a walker wouldn't be worth it.. plus, I fell face first using a walker when I was 11 and it was a REALLY bad experience. My tooth turned black. I had orthodontic braces on and they ended up in my gums. not pleasant. Lol. i feel safer with someone holding me. less chance of doing a face plant again.
@powerchairchick Do you really need someone to hold you while you walk? You look fine when you walk, I bet you could do it without assistance. Can you atleast stand without help? Can you like hang onto the wall to balance or something? I wanna see
@dshopperz001 i absolutely do need someone to hold me. i have NO balance whatsoever so if i attempted to stand or walk without help, i'd immediately fall. trust me, if i could do it without help, i would. i prob. could hold on to a bar but that's dangerous & difficult because i don't have a lot of control over my right arm & i would definitely need both hands on the bar to maintain balance
@TheKillerInMyHead please don't feel bad for me. I'm perfectly happy the way I am. not being able to walk independently doesn't bother me. But yes, I do wish I was able to speak clearly so I could educate people who assume that I am mentally disabled
I quite appreciate the comment you wrote in teh vdeo description, because quite rightly "you educate those willing to watch your videos". It is also unfortunate that those looking or interested in watching those videos may not be the only ones needing to see those videos from a WILLING and VOLUNTARY person with CP. Fantastic chance to be able to ask question about the baclofen treatment you receive and the improvements seen. GOOD FOR YOU to raise awareness and promote intelligence of CP people
You are a strong and beautiful girl ... I respect you very much. It is amazing to see your contagious joy! May you have a wonderful and fulfilling life.
Hi PCC( Powerchairchick) catchy name. I Never assume persons with cp have mental retardation. i wait the figure the level of inteligence before I attempt to carry on a conversation. It seems as though your feet want to run before the rest of body is ready. I have always had wierd ideas about what doctors might try to help the physically challenged. if you were to have a muscle relaxer would that also relax some of your breathing functions? I like your personality and thanks for the vids.
You got a lot of guts doing this. I have four friends with CP, and none of them would even dream of doing something like your doing. I'm sure friends and family are proud of you for doing this. :)
i think your asome your beuttfull girl im single im 28 years old see i i dont look on the out sid i look at the inside cuse its what on the inside that matters
Great to see you walking, have you done a video of you using dynavox communication software yet? Just wondered how you used it with people that couldn't understand you at all at college etc? interested to see what page looks like etc.
@powerchairchick Hey, I just wanted to throw my two sense in here and let you know that Optimum nutrition whey protein along with fish oil gels and exercise when you are strong enough will help you tremendously. Mark my words that if you practice these things on a daily basis you will see great results.
keep it up powerchairchick, im in the same condition (CP) but much less severe... in some ways... i am also autistic. love your videos... and your cute also :)
you may need someone to help support you on the horse at first, but i've seen many kids start out that way and eventually gain the balance and muscle control to hold themselves up on the horse! if you want to learn more about conductive education, check out some videos on youtube. the best i've found is by a program in tucson arizona. search "conductive education tucson arizona"
Hey, i work with kids with disabilities, mainly CP. have you ever heard of conductive education? it is an amazing therapy program for people with motor disabilities, that works on training the muscles to work the way that they should. it could possibly help with your balance or just overall muscle control! also, have you ever tried horseback riding? the movement of the horse walking helps your hips to learn the movement of walking, while holding yourself upright on the horse helps with balance!
@powerchairchick oh, yea, that's too bad. I have seen some kids come who's legs are very tight but by the end of the hour session they have loosened drastically to fit around the horse. but some are just too tight to even try... have you ever heard about conductive education though?
@powerchairchick I agreed w/ page174. Daniel had Conductive Education (CE) went he was only 2 for about 5 yrs and I apply CE concepts on everything he does on a daily basis. His legs used to scissors and crossed over at his knees, that why I put the divider on his gait trainer. It takes a long time to stretch out his legs; but it is possible with trained conductor (teacher/therapist).
@powerchairchick CE can help with controlling some of your movements as well by provide stability in your upper trunk & lower extremities to gain better fine motor controls. It is a mind-body training in a holistic way. You are doing so well, I personally think you can benefit from it, but it is a very costly without the help of insurance or state agency.
@none331 thanks but im not weak. i have no balance, so i can never walk on my own. exercising wont help me be independent because im not weak. my problem is that i dont have much control over my muscle movements
You did real good walking. Have you ever try to walk on your own without any help, because it look like you are strong enough to do that. Thanks for showing us how you walk.
