Me again,you probably don't remember me but.... My diesel conversion is finally on the road!!!! I had some problem getting the paper Work for it. Anyways I was wondering if you had problems with getting yours up to speed and if you did you fix it some how? Adding a turbo?Any help would be appreciated.
Its a 1L Toyota diesel from a 2wd truck. The conversion is done with all Toyota parts. Nothing custom really except putting together a 4wd L52 transmission.
My dad have a 1996 Toyota 4wd Truck. It has a 3L diesel engine. It has 1 million kilometers (600k miles) and runs like new. I am in Dominican Republic.
@Motorfordtoyota actually what is sad: The do put diesels in Tacomas (Hilux) everywhere BUT here - South America, Australia, Europe all enjoy turbo diesel Toyota trucks with almost as much hp as a v8 and get about 33 mpg.
I doubt very much that it is Toyota that wont make a diesel truck for us; rather the govt wont allow it. EPA, DOT, etc etc.
@doug48858 the hilux didn't have a turbo diesel in australia untill about 1997 when they brought in the 1kzt, all the previous diesels were the L series diesels which are really gutless, the 2L early is the best one, they like turbo's but everything after that is rubbish, 3L (2.8) 5L(3.0) not worth thy time and money for a conversion, unless ya like cracked heads, worn big ends and changing oil every 5000km religiously to avoid oil sludge and engine failure. they are CRAP.

Where did you get the oil pan for the 4X4 Diesel? I need one for my project. I cant find one anywhere.

yes 81-83 in 2wd longbox only. 84 added 4wd, and 85 added turbo diesel, then in 86 it was over. No Toyota diesels in the USA since.

@doug48858 Its so sad, cause if Toyota put turbo diesel in the Tacoma and Tundra, they would have THE best trucks!! I have to have a 2l turbo truck!
