(Slow as fuck) All you have to do a GN is turn up the fuel pressure & boost, install a dump tube, get a set of street slicks & learn how to launch it properly & you're in the mid/low 12's. Pal.

  • I don't doubt this at all. I love both cars, both have their pros and their cons. A modified GNX could easily outrun a stock Viper any day. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's the fastest. I've watched $30K Subaru STIs outrun $200K+ Ferrari's and Lambo's. Don't believe me? Look it up. It's all in knowledge and what you do.

    As awesome as the GN is, that GN doesn't have the top end of the Viper, nor the handling. Its cool that it can beat it from stop light to stop light, or at the strip, but sometimes people put value in things other than going straight.

    That's not to say that the GN or Monte's aren't great track cars, as they can be set up to do so very well, but the GN/Monte are wildly different platforms than the Viper, and because of that, the Viper has a lot in store than off the line accel.

    Less horsepower, worse aerodynamics, heavier... Gearing can only get you so far- its not some magical method of unlocking speed or acceleration, because with gearing, to achieve one, you have to sacrifice the other. As for top end, the top end is top end horsepower, another thing that Viper has on the GNX... Combine that, along with better aero and lighter weight, and you've got a faster car on the top end.

If they threw an extra top gear on the GNX and kept the ratios for gear 1-5 the same, they wouldnt sacrifice any acceleration and would raise top speed to better than that of the Viper. as for top end, the GNX is turbocharged, therefore reaches peak powerband ONLY in mid-top revs, and the ratio of bhp-whp is DIRECTLY related to gearing..

    "Dusted so fierce"? That "drag" was more toying around than anything... Furthermore, you're continuing to prove you're an idiot... Adding more gears to a tranny doesn't magically net you top speed- in order to run that taller ratio, you need HORSEPOWER to back it up. If you don't have that, then all you're really doing is lowering your RPM for better fuel mileage... Which is what most stock 5th or 6th gears are for- overdrive...

    You have much to learn...

  • @Tboninator SOO, the gearing does make a difference, and at least in this video, the GNXs have better power/weight ratio than the viper, and you really think that aerodynamics is going to make up for that kind of a difference in power over one or two extra gear pulls? the GNX in this video, with a higher top gear, would destroy the viper from this video in any straight run, be it 1/2 mile or 10 miles.

    I never said gearing doesn't make a difference... I guess replying like you were retarded wasn't simple enough for you. Gearing will always do more for off the line acceleration than it will ever do for top speed, unless you have the horsepower to push it with the taller gearing.

    None of the cars in this video look like they're really giving it all, especially the Viper... With the window down, I can guarantee you that you would hear that Viper over the GNX.

  • @Tboninator okay well here is what i'm saying, these modded GNXs obviosly have enough power to go faster than the redline of their stock top gear. I have a 2.0 turbo with light mods and I know what you are sayin, cause i cant hit the redline on 5th, but I dont have the massive torque needed to push through that. but, with some modifications these GNXs could spin an easy 600 lb/ft, and actually have a better drag coefficient than the viper.. an extra tall top gear would raise the top speed...

    GNX's and most other turbocharged vehicles are easy to make power out of, but that usually means increase in turbo size, which would net them a longer spool time on the turbo, whereas the Viper still has instant power, being naturally aspirated...

    The drag coefficient of a GTS Viper like the one in this video, is 0.35, while the GNX is 0.41... Not that bad, but you don't seem to understand that you can't just magically lower it without drastic modification.

I never said anything about breaking the laws of physics, but I will say I've ridden in a $5,000 1.6 liter civic that pulled 10+ lengths on viper from 60-9.5k redline of 5th around 160. another gear and that civic could probably hit 200.. sufficient power/weight and a higher gear = higher top speed

    I don't know about that. May seem strong up to the red line in 5th, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't fall on its face in another, because drag can cause a steep drop off like that.

  • @Tboninator lol c'mon man give me some credit. I know about drag.. one cant reduce it very much without aerodynamically engineering the entire body... I have tried to top out my car, and even though I hit peak power in 5th from 135 to around 165, the rate of acceleration slows down around 130 because of intense drag. It would be interesting to find out what kind of power would actually be needed to push to the top of a higher gear in the GNX and whether or not the one in this video has it.

    You're trying to compare something that is, essentially, a brick, to a Viper. The Viper has every advantage over the GN, yet somehow it can beat it out a Viper with half the horsepower, and a little over half the torque, that it gains solely from a turbocharger. Granted, these GNs obviously aren't stock, but the Viper is an all around better car, and over any stretch, will outrun the GN, even if the GN can eventually match it's top speed.

It would take a lot of money to solve that, but there is an affordable way to make enough power that it wouldnt matter SO much, it would just feel like the car was gonna take off and do backflips, and would need a REALLY smoth road, good weather, and a great driver to push it.. I respect yo knowledge. dont diss on mine. peace.

  • @jgt302  its a suspension trick that is used in GM G-bodies like the buick, monte, regal, el-camino, etcetera, as well as a variety of other cars, not necessarily GM specific as a weight transfer trick to make the power actually go to the pavement instead of just roasting the tires. Keeps the initial body roll down.

    I think he backed off at the 1/4 mile mark. It looks like at about 11 sec's after they go he hits the brakes. I think you are right though that the viper would walk them at 160 MPH (If he was dumb enough to push it)

    Believe it or not, the G-body had a lower drag coefficient (.375) than the viper (0.45). The GN weighs about 200 lbs more than the viper (The title for mine says 3400 lbs) but it is the gears that make the speed. The GN has 4, the Viper has 6.

The rear gears were 3.42's. & with driver & a tank of gas they weighed in @ about 3700.lbs. These kids today don't realize that the car wasn't exactly light, but it hauled ass for what it had. One of the many reasons they stopped making the GN was because it was consistently embarrassing GM's prized posession (The Corvette) @ the drag strip... lol

  • @minivan442 the hardtop viper means its a GTS. 8.0L 450bhp. The engine has slowly been bored out and tuned over the years after the 2002 production model to 8.4L, which is in the current viper.
