  • Pretty hair. I was doing the two-strain twist with water in the 80's. Black women use to stop me on the street but I never thought until they starting popping up to open up a salon.

  • i left my twists in for a while in hopes they lock up, but iam taking them out tommorrow, ive had them in 3/4 months now, iam going to be able to take them out?

  • Great video, for curiosity sake do you guys think the styles in my video are considered as proactive styles?

  • did u always two strand twists ur hair so well, i need a tutorial on how to twist hair, mine always turns out crazy

  • Whoo hoo, yes I'm DEFINITELY trying this like right now. I get so sick just sitting down twisting & twisting & combing & twisting some more. Ugh - love doing my hair but geez it can be VERY annoying! Makes me hesitate to wash my hair sometimes. LOL.

  • Hello There! WHen u dtngld ur hair in the shwr, did u keep the water on the whole time or did u cut it on only when u needed it? When I try to dtngle in the shwr I always run outta hot water!!

  • Rustic Beauty, I LOVE your videos! I am a natural, TRANSITIONING from heat damage! But i aspire to those thick, lush 2-strand twists (and twist-outs). Please keep them coming, because you give me hope! PEACE.

  • You seem so ginuine n funny too. Iam very glad you did this vid. I'm new to the no heat styles n I've been doing the braid out for about a couple of week now. Been wanting to try the two strand twist but was a little nervous about tryn it...wasn't sure I could do it. You really make it look so easy. Definitely going to try it when I wash in a couple of days. Thanks so much!

  • thanks...this helps a lot.

  • miss your videos

  • so stay in the shower for an hour?:)

  • you are so right, i do the same thing, but no more, thanks for the tip!

  • what product is in your hair when you twist it? my twists always fall out after 2 hours

  • i decided to go natural a while ago but my hair straighten is only neck length so when it goes back natural it's short, dry and unmanageable so i relaxed it over instead but it still dry n breaking up i want to how do i keep it healthy n make it grow to my bra clasp ?

  • so you already detangled once or youre saying just wet it in the shower? Still confused...

  • even though i'm white i just realized that due to my curly coarse hair type i can use this hairstyle too! I'm so excited to try it out :)

  • i just found this video and even though i'm white i have curly coarse hair and have discovered that this technique works for me too. i'm so excited to try it out!

  • Do you ever use the Miss Jesies or KKC?

  • @MegaSteele09 she only uses shea, coconut oil, and infusium.

  • Hello Rustic Beauty-In the past week, I have started viewing many vids and tutorials on transitioning. This is new to me; I have been relaxer free for approximately eight months and your videos have been very, very informative. I hope you will continue to update those of us who are newbies and looking forward to this journey of healthier hair. Again, thank u.

  • wow! u are fast at braiding! it looks very good :D

  • how many twists do you usually put in ur hair?

  • have u ever had a perm?

  • I tried the 2 strand twists.hair..I love them! Can't wait til my hair grows out more.

  • have u tried bentonite clay

  • You are so helpful because I was afraid to take my hair out of braids and wear it loose but you have given me so many tips and I feel comfortable seeing someone else with long AND thick hair doing it. Thank you...and your hair is absolutely beautiful. =] I can't wait to try the twist out for the first time!

  • I love this! How do you keep your ends from unraveling? I'm trying to learn how to properly twist my hair and I really like the way yours came out! I want to be able to wear the twists for a few days before I undo them and wear it free.

  • this is absolutely true i did 2 strands for the first time on my hair last night and i just grabbed hair...it didnt even take me an hour..no comb used. i just got in the habit of even detangling my hair bc i have been wearing wash and gos since going natural over a year ago :)

  • Ok, so you don't part your hair for the twists? I tried to do my own twists but im not so good at making neat parts.

  • It's faster if you don't use a comb to part it. Just use your fingers and you cut out a lot of time because you're not worried about being perfect. The best thing about this style is that the twists don't have to be uniform.

  • I love how you correct yourself!

  • you make kinky hair so desireable lmao

  • I think you have some of the coolest head of hair i've ever seen!! especially ur 2 strand twists...I love them!!

  • That makes so much since. Im going to do that from now on

  • Very cute... and a good tip because I tend to do the same thing. I'm seriously gonna twist my hair this size tonight and try it your way!

  • looks like here hair is elastic

  • Did u put the infuse23 cream to do the twists?

  • Just tried this and took hours off my twist time. Thanks!

  • I just found your videos today for the first time and I am so inspired. I've been natural for about 5 years but my hair keeps breaking because it's DRY and I haven't taken good care of it. I mostly wear a 2 strand twist and I twist it with a loc and twist gel and it lasts for weeks at a time. Is that gel drying my hair? What product do you use when you twist your hair?

  • (rosstrac) It might be, if that is the only product you are using. I have some hair update videos that share all the products I use.

  • @rosstrac - she was my first BIG inspiration on YT too lol. Miss her around here. Come back RB :-) Hope life is great for you x

  • I just did my first two strand twist on relaxed hair. I love it! I will definitely be doing this style more often.

  • thank u so much for sharing your "light bulb" moment! i finished my twists in about 1hr. it used to take me up 3hrs to do my twists!

  • (jennyerman)Yay!

  • go girl go LOl

  • I cant believe it took 35 minutes! i love how bouncy ur hair is!

  • You're sexy o.O

  • Wow I love your hair just thick and gorgeous!

  • lol. light buble moment.

    dnt you love those moments?

you explained ya method relly well.

    thanks :))

  • i loveeee your hair! how do you get the ends to not unravel? like... do you tie a little knot at the end?

and what products do you put in? omg! i neeeeed my hair to look like that ! lol.

  • i think your current method is great and you're saving lots of time.just one question.with so much product in your hair when you're styling your hair and your hair touches your face,do you get acne from the hair products?

  • I learnt this method by force because, it's very difficult for me to comb out my hair, plus I believe less breakage. I don't comb my hair out that much...if tangled I will condition it ....It works for me..I hate combs..can you let me know what products you used. Did I mention I hate combs..LOL.

  • I know that this question has been posed before, but I would REALLLLLLLY appreciate a tutorial on your two-strand twist method. I always wear twist outs, but they just lock up after a day of two and get knotted up so i have to un twist them and start over. i love your method and would love to try it sometime.

  • Omg.. what is ur secret to ur twist... my twist looks horrible.. i am i am still learning and tryin. I love yr hair sooo much.. very nice.. great vids.. if u have any advice please drop me a line... SOS.. LOL

  • Rustic Beauty! Thank you so much. You are probably the best example of afro-amer natural hair growth on youtube-trust me, I've seen them all! Of course, I'm at the start of my hair journey, but your advice is practical and the health of your hair, while beautiful, acutally seems attainable for a fledgling hair grower like me-I'm a devout student of hair growth and its always easy to spot an effective teacher-teach on my sister-we need you!!

  • I love natural hair. I honestly feel that natural sistas have more freedom than relaxed girls. We don't have to run from the rain or worry about our hair when we go swimming. And I think it is just beautiful. It's kind of sad that a lot of black folks can't see it that way. Which is why some people call it self-hate.

  • I'm transitioning again and your videos are so educational and encouraging.

  • Great tips I think that is great I am going to do that now

  • That's what it's about. People reaching out to help other people through their journeys. I've been natural for almost 10 years and locked for 8 and things like this (people just posting and showing their hair tips online) are so very helpful. BTW, YOUR HAIR IS GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you, great tip!

  • Your hair is so nice. Can two-strand twists last for a month? I want to do them, but scared they'll unravel or get messy/fuzzy in few days because my hair's on the soft side. I want to be able to wash and Dc every two weeks in them, and co-wash or just rinse my hair with water 2x a week in them. How do you do they so they hold well?

  • tdottchickk, I find my twists begin to lock after a while so two weeks is my max then I retwists to free my hair.

  • You have the prettiest hair. Not everyone can pull off your hairstyles. Your natural texture is really nice. This really works for you.

  • wow you hair has grown from this video till now! what the hek did you do! dont have to answer just kinda funny to me but i love it!

  • lol...I am new to natural hair about 7 months. This is the format I follow because my hair very tangled when I wash it. This sequence for detangling prevents me from combing it all out. I thought I was doing it wrong. Keep up the great videos-I have learned so much watching them as I put two strand twist into my hair.

  • how can i knowif i hav new growth in my kinky twist

  • love your videos

  • O I C lol..........

  • Oh my gosh, you are to funny, LOL. You sound so excited. I'm glad you were to take some time off doing your hair. That's always a plus. By the way, your hair is just gorgeous. I love the way it just springs back.

  • What do you have in your hair while you're twisting?

  • your right . it does cut the time in half

  • Thanks, hun!! I will definitely give this a try :)

  • I have a TWA that's always tangled. Your method of detangling in the show I will definitely try when rinse out my deep conditioner tomorrow. Thanks!!:)

  • Wow. You are fast. You should definitely open up your salon. When I was young and my Mom washed my hair she would always detangle it when she put the conditioner in it. So even when I had a relaxer in and especially when I went back to my natural hair I always detangled in the shower with the conditioner still in my hair. Thanks for all of your hair and health tips. Please keep em coming.

  • how do you get rid of the knots that is on the individual strands because that is my main problem with my natural hair.....

  • for occasional knots you can use a safety pin if finger combing and wide tooth comb dont work

  • My goodness that is such a good tip. Now that I'm a new natural with about 5-6 ins that will definitely help.

  • what hair styles make your hair grow the most do you think

  • ur hair so springy! cute!

  • I washed my daughter's hair last nite. SOOOOO it took me from washing to finishing the twist 2hr & that has been the best. After watching all your videos the first time it took me 4 1/2. thx

  • 35 MINUTES!!! girl it usually takes my 1.5-2 hours. i'll try your method tomorrow when i wah my hair

  • Thank you so much for this! Hopefully using this method will cut 5 hours down to 40 minutes :)

  • Thank you missy!

  • lol, congrats on your light bulb moment

  • Your videos have been a Godsend! My daughter has the same type of hair as you, and her hair regimen has been so simplified using your techniques. Your hair looks beautiful as usual. Thank you for all of what you do.

  • LOL. I had ALWAYS knew that it was crazy to spend time untangling my hair more than once (my mama told me so), but it was a habit incredibly hard to break. Now, I mostly untangle with my hands and barely use the comb.

  • I'd been thinking about using wheat germ, what does it taste like?

  • (angeeqt) It has a slight nutty taste, if you use too much it can overpower you dish, but if you put it in oatmeal or cereal you usually can't taste it.

  • RusticBeauty is my hair idol. :D I want my hair to be just like that hopefully in year.

  • Mine too! :)

  • wow you werent lying about the fast part lol it looked like you fast forward your hands ^_^

    great vid

  • Your hair has so much elasticity, beautiful. Don't you just love Aha moments!

  • I love those moments....good for you! Your twist-outs are the most amazing I've ever seen.

  • I agree! Aren't they the most beautiful bouncy twists on You Tube! I'm still fighting with the quality of my hair, but hopefully, I'll get 6 hours down to 40 minutes too! It'll give me so much freedom!

  • lol my hair is not nearly as long as yours and it takes me FOREVER to twist because my hair is not that thick an i have to make them small or i look funny (i think). and you're right about the coily hair thing. i need a trim soooo bad! anyway, love your hair!

  • Thanks for sharing this! Welcome to my world of 40 min twist sessions. Woot WOO! Thanks for sharing about the knots too. Those slow down the process. You are making people's lives easier. :)

  • Always great to find a way to simplify and reduce shedding. I had an epiphany moment when I realized that detangling in the shower really does NOT work for my family.

  • Great video! I'm natural and I recently started only detangling my hair in the shower after a co-wash when styling in twists, also. It is definitely a time saver.

  • Thank U!!!!!!!

  • Wow - I love your hair length. Thank you for sharing this. I'll be back for more.

  • Isn't it wonderful?! I felt the exact same way when I made this discovery in 2006. My life has been so much easier. I've recently discovered that making my twists just a little bit bigger saves me a whole lot of time too. So, i'm working to perfect medium sized twists. Thanks for enlightening others about this. It truly is something that other naturals should try out.

  • Another fabulous video. It was also great to read in your description area of your eating regimen. I am sooo trying to give up caffeine for a personal 100 challenge. I believe I can change my habits and incorporate more water and tea. Wish me luck!

  • I love your hair and your videos. This is my second month as a natural and paying more attention to your videos as well as some others has really helped me in my natural journey. I can't wait until my hair is as long as yours.

  • congratulations on your discovery.

  • Yay for super fast hair!

  • Ya, I always comb my hair in the shower with conditioner in it. I can't detangle otherwise.

  • Congratulations, glad you found this out, anything that saves time is a keeper.

  • Nevermind i just looked at everyones comments so i think my question is answered.

  • how can you prevent those single strand knots ?? i get them all the time and i get frustrated so i just rip them off! advice anyone

  • Thanks for sharing. Glad you found a quicker and easier way.

  • HOW OFTEN SHOULD U TRIM HAIR

  • I LOVEEEEE UR HAIR

  • That's right gurl!! I stopped combing my hair in the morning too and just put enough products in it and put in a ponytail, or when i go to bed i just crab hair and start to put them in large braids ;-) It's sooo much easier and our hair likes it! ;-D

  • Yes! Now that's what I'm talking about! ^_^ ...Using a comb as little as possible makes menipulation so much easier!

We should start a movement! LOL

  • You've really been combing each section? I never did that, but it still takes me 5 hours to properly twist my hair and it's nowhere near as long as yours. But I do make mine much smaller and I keep them in for at least a week. I wish it didn't take me as long!

  • omg, who you tellin'? that's one reason i can't wait for my hair to get to at least shoulder length. with shorter hair, you have to be meticulous if you want your twists to look tame for a week or two. it's a labor of love though. :-)

  • ya i think the longer ur hair the easier

  • yaaaay im happy for you!!!!^_^

  • YES!!!! I tried this on my last wash and I was like wait, where is my hair fallin gout....lol NOTHING!!!!!!!! Thanks for showing the world. I may do a vid as well.

  • Uggh, I didn't want to hear that!! Oh well, no way around it then. THANKS

  • Thanks so much for the info, girl! Your hair is gorgeous...I'm going to try this next time I do twists...

  • thank you so much for taking out the time to respond, and to share information...you are such a blessing to all of us in the "natural world!"

  • are you going to show how they look when you take them out?

  • Rustic, Do you trim the knots on the ends? I get them so often, and I hate to keep nipping them.

  • (SGmom2) I HAVE to, they only get worse. Some strands I may have 3 knots and that is HORRIBLE, I am going to start trimming more frequently because I can't stand them. When I first natural, I had my hair in a fro...I would instantly get them within 24hours, lol. I have to keep my hair twisted or a twist out to minimize them.

  • You're right about keeping kinky hair in a low menipulation hair style. I have been trying to be good about keeping my hair in flat twists or two strand twists for a week at a time.

  • I just watched this again so I had to comment again. I am sooo happy! I have 3 girls and 1 more on the way ( god willing). Getting our hair done after washing was our biggest challenge. Keep your epiphanies and new things coming RusticBeauty.

  • Hi rusticbeauty!! I just started viewing your videos and it has been so educational for me. Your enthusiasm has been the bomb!!! Ive been natural for 4 years and lovin it but it's plenty of work. Where do you get your shea butter ?

  • (beautydee9)Thank you, yeah natural hair can be plenty of work but I have recently been trying to cut down my work this year,I know there are tricks out there to make stuff easier, and I am going to find them, lol! I get my shea butter from butters-n-bars dotcom. Thanks for watching!

  • LmBo! You were talking so fast. It was cute tho, cause you were so excited. But Congrats and THANKS!

    =)

  • Congratulations!!!!

  • im happy 4 u lmao, i always comb my hair just once in the shower, and do exactly like you just did, dosent take me long at all!

  • great good looking out .thnks for the info

  • hi rustic...i've been a faithful follower since this summer, and I still luv luv luv your vids...i've learned so much from you...since I first started watching your vids, I've noticed that you've had ALOT of growth...is there anything specific that attribute this too? new products, change in diet, supplements, etc?

  • (exhale1913)Thanks for watching me so long! I added your question and my answer to the sidebar because it was kinda long :)

  • i havent combed my hair in what, a year? i just let the shower and conditioner detangle while i finger comb (my comb's in the trash LOL) This just saves so much hair :)

  • Discovering something new . . . isn't that a great feeling! I used to detangle my dry hair before washing and detangle again w/conditioner. Not anymore, all of the detangling takes place w/conditioner. Talk about saving time!

  • i noticed u said sometimes drench with shea...does it leave your hair feeling heavy, greasy, or anything like that? I just got me some and was afraid to put too much.

  • (mbrown113d) I typically drench it in shea butter when my hair is in two strand twists and then I put it in a ponytail or before I go to bed. If I do it that way, I don't have to remoisture for a week or so. However, you would get the same effect if you moisturized it moderately ever other day.

  • ok thanks!

  • What a relief right?! cuz thats alot of hair to have to comb out each peice.

  • Im really happy for you lol

  • I just love how happy you are about your discovery. I'm learning the same thing, least week I've been using less comb and letting my fingers do the work. If it's already detangled, there's no need for the comb! I just need to incorporate the evil scissors in my regiment.

  • If I'm not mistaken, didn't you mention once that your hair was 4a or 4b? If so, did you go through a process where you had to train your hair cause that hair type is usually dry. How did you train your hair to retain moisture and become more supple and manageable?

  • (iroc31407) Yeah, I guess you can say I went through a process. I 'rarely' have my hair feeling dry. Sometimes I drench my hair with shea butter. I do not play with moisture-to me that is the most important thing for my hair health.

  • How long did it take for you to achieve that length? And when you went through the process, how often did you moisturize until you got to the point you are today? What do you recommend for 4a/4b hair that is extremely thick and has that cottony texture?

  • (iroc31407)Well my last relaxer was May 2003, So that is about 5 and a half years. I have been doing trimming and a cutting so I don't know exactly when my hair got to this length. Moisturing my hair sometimes depends on the climate...sometimes I would do it every other day, sometimes every three days, and maybe once a week. Everyone is different--if it EVER feels dry don't hesitate to add moisture. I personally have been using shea butter faithfully for about 5 years and it has worked for me.

  • This is my favorite post of yours!!! I have a question. Did a hot oil treatment on my hair last night and i heard you say you would do a cold wash to yours the next day. What is a cold wash and why do you do it. Do you have a video about it? BTW I feel you on what you said about moisture.

  • (need2me) Hi, I mentioned a co-wash, which means (conditioner washing) only. Basically sometimes shampoos can be drying so doing co-washes instead can help regain moisture. Just yt search 'co-wash' and a lot of videos will pop up, I am glad you liked the video!
