the US sucks, and i'm an american. No excuse, our current male sprinters are terrible, except for Gay/Dix, but even Dix, it's not like he's a phenom, he's competitive. Hopefully we recover in a few years.
@TheAngeltoDemon Well to be fair, most of our top athletes are in the NFL or NBA at this point. Track is just not top priority here anymore. I wish it was cuz I love track, ran for 10 years as a youth. But we'll be back don't worry. Look how the women have bounced back.
@Antrizzle2009 i totally agree. I mean, Calvin Johnson, 6'5, 235, runs a 4.35 40yr and ran 10.2 during training for the combine. A guy like that, losing 35lbs and focusing on track would be a threat to bolt. We lose so many potential sprinters to football, early in their career, during even highschool when they start to focus on football and bulking up. Oh well, i understand it, the money is too good and there are more opportunities. It's amazing though, non-americans don't understand this
@TheAngeltoDemon Exactly. there are so many other viable options in the States for youth athletes. Plus our society is more into team sports and what not. In Jamaica, with its limited economy, a sport like t&f is easy to do and train for because it doesn't cost as much to organize, so naturally it becomes the sport that all the top elite athletes want to do. A guy like Asafa Powell for example. With his size and build, if he were born in Florida he'd be an NFL safety right now.
Yes, similar to soccer or baseball. Find anything resembling a ball........Play ball !! Not to take anything away from all the other country's great athtles. Many of our would be olympians, are already in a pro sport by the time they'd peak as an olympic athlete.
In football, we've seen the lowering of times in the 40 yrd dash over the years.. In the NBA, they too run and jump higher every year.
