  • George Clinton's "swing down" makes the hair on my back stand (and I had none)

  • the crem de la crem, I am a NYkr living in LA....but I know Cosmic & excellance when I hear and see it...BIG UP!!!!!!

  • Un-FUCKING-real

  • From 4:15 on, geez. Wow. Greatness

  • Is there the complete live version of this song on YouTube? I think it was deleted!

  • This is, the voice of God !

  • This kind of musical talent just doesn't exist anymore.

  • I never saw these folks live.So sad for me, but at least You Tube helps out for what I missed. They are just so great. My teenager is big on them and they have been an influence on the music he now makes.Very ,very cool.I am glad I at least had some recordings to turn him onto.

  • yes yes yes i wanna ride it is mind blowing that parliament funkadelic have not recieved their true rewards until later . how many real bands out there that can play like this real music .not computer generated this is real music the kind you feel in your soul. keep funkin p funk mob.

  • From Elvis Presley to P Funk to Dr. Dre all tore this track up

  • The P-Funk Earth Tour, Charlotte coliseum 1977, at that time, this was the hottest concert around, talk about getting your money's worth, pure entertainment, to see musicians playing instruments and singing, it didn't get any better. Tracks, lip synching, turntables and 50 dancers, my how times have changed.

  • SWING DOWN SWEET CHARIOT STOP AND LET ME RIDE!!!!!! LUV THE VIDEO

  • I love this performance but it's even better if you include the song they play right before it. Does anybody have the video that comes before this one or know the song?

  • DR DRE brought me here...like everybody else I guess...Okay, I shut the fuck up !

  • Me encanta la melena!!!

  • Glen's voice is smooth, groovy, funk, jazz, blues, melodic, sensation, fantastic, he was just the best singer in the world. During the 70's, we thought George Clinton was singing most of those songs. When you tube became popular, this is when we discovered this soulful brother was the key to the lock. I am not taking anything away from Clinton but everybody knew about him but many people like myself did not know about Glen.

  • @Imani348 Oh I feel so sorry for you just now finding out about Glenn, Us Funkateers knew that he was soul unlimited. And only got better. I saw the mothership land many of times & it never was the same,or got old in anyway. Go back to the Westbound recordings of Funkadelic, Early Parliament, Up for the downstroke, Chocolate City, The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein, Listen to Bigfootin, the way you move your sexy body, Baby I owe you something good. Seasoned talent, Payed dues Musicians & singers!

  • there are alot of musicians from ohio in those bands

  • What u r witnessing here will NEVER be done again. A band full a very talented BLACK musicians playing thier asses off. This was the norm back then. All soul and R&B acts could play instruments very well. It doesn't exist anymore. Keep in mind that these guys were only in their 20's and had this much developed musical talent and skill.

And Glen....Glen.....well...what else can say? So inspirational; So soulful; So powerful; So talented; So Pfunk...thanks for putting in work young bro. RIP ; )

  • @dienglee - There are still bands out there the brand new heavies and breakestra are two that come to mind.

  • I saw them in concert when I was fourteen and the mother ship landed. . First time I got a contact..

  • Comment removed

  • i think the mothership was in my room lol

  • Funk...it aint illegal yet.

  • @DONNIMETROPOLIS313 Good one! lol

  • The best way to get on an acid trip without using......

  • 6 people couldn't get on board the Mothership Connection

  • yes

  • 4:35 "Ooh, Yeaaa!!"

  • i wanna ride.

  • it doesnt " swing down " until 1:10 after mr. clinton finishes making a fool of himself. after that, its pure "Church".

  • Glen Goins voice = perfection

I defy anyone to find a better, smoother, more powerful singer than Glen Goins. Touched by the finger of God.

  • @Prankaplegic ...U know what I know...Glen was truly the real MS connection...only the good die young....but I did get to see the MShip concert in Philly....Max Respect

  • @MrsPlanetMaster Yes, Glen Goins died way too young. Sad. I got to see these guys in concert when I was in high school back in the 80's. It was like a pilgrimage. Glen Goins had passed away ten years earlier but they had that old magic, if not the same on stage mobility. If I remember correctly, Gary Shider called down the Mothership that night.

  • Long live P-Funk...Parliament was the funkiest and absolutely my favorite band of all-time!

  • 3 people who watched this dont know shit about good music!!

  • I thought this was the 1985 show?!?!?!?

  • @drag1eon

with Sly and the Family Stone

  • @drag1eon glen died in 1978

  • rollin in my '64, with all the niggaz sayin:

  • @wilky1189 NO...... its wayyyyyy bigger than that. keep listening tho, your ears oare on the right track.

  • Just pure funk!

  • Sing it Glenn!! Bring down the mothership! I hope ya'll dont have a height restriction cuz i'm kinda short, as long as ya'll got some seat belts up in there, i'll be cool! lol

  • Thank you for bringing the Mothership down so Ma can ride!!!!!!

  • Damn this video is taped in 76'. Yesterday I saw George Clinton.. allmost 36 years later! I am so glad I saw this living legend for the second time! And that he did this song. My night couldnt be any better!!!!!

    Swing down... I wanna ride!!!!!

  • @svitax187 this guy svitax must be an idiot, all sensitive and stuff, getting emotional and stuff

props to the p funk!!!!!!! swing down 'i got connection to the mothership''

  • Nearly 40 years later and they are still lightyears ahead of their time....GOD ALMIGHTY!!!

  • Sometimes i need to get here so i can get my fix of Glenn Goins – R.I.P. true legend, gives me the chills – and then sometimes just to see cstalleys comment for a good laugh.. Haha

  • Was it maceo parker and fred wesley on the horns? On the album it's them but here i'm not sure

  • @Qhuit8 yes it was maceo and fred

  • @Qhuit8-That's definitely Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker blowin' the cobwebs out your mind, along with trumpet players Richard Kush Griffith and Rick Gardner.

  • you can feel how much soul greg goins puts into this add the great hype man in funk history george clinton. you cant go wrong. sly stone invented funk but clinton revelutionized it

  • Preach on Glen.....preach on! Take n' it to the cosmic church that is funkadelic!

  • this might actually be a reality soon

  • FREE YOUR MIND AND YOUR ASS WILL FOLLOW TONIGT!!! im 17 and into deep dubstep, but funk was my first love, because my dad let me listen to this instead of the crappy childish muzak. the sentence in all caps is one that was implanted in my head at the age of 4. just like this one: LOAN ME YA SPACESHIP MANG, I'LL BRING IT RIGHT BACK, HENGHENGHEY!! thx dad. parliament rules

  • I can feel the Mothership

  • I have to agree. With that level of soul and talent, The Mothership had to take Glen and share him with the rest of the universe.

  • It's hard to belive Glen was only 22 year old here. It's even harder to belive he died less then 2 years after this. Rip Glen!

  • Do you wanna ride!!!!!!!?

  • @occams99 are you ready?

  • I love how you can see George getting frustrated with the crowd not responding and he kind've just walks off and tells Glen come on and do this shit lol!!

  • say say thanks , fo this,sang

    GLEN

  • "BELIEVE ME, HE MEANT EVERY WORD OF THIS 'YALL!!! POWERFUL!!!" THIS BECAME VERY SPIRITUAL TO HIM........

  • "BELIEVE ME, HE MEANT EVERY WORD OF THIS 'YALL!!! POWERFUL!!!"

  • holy hair, george

  • didn't know Glen was such a spectacular singer. yeah, i knew he could play the hell out of a guitar. when you think of Georgel Clinton, give props to Sly. Sly started funk rock, not George. don't get me wrong, love George to death, but Sly invented it, George took it in another direction.

  • Glenn was incredible!

  • R.I.P GLEN GOINS

  • Glen killed this, pure soul erupting on this track!!! Dig it!!!!

  • @flywonderful1 - I reckon Glen was so friggin awesome that the Mother Ship had to take him back...........So young so talented and so funkin' soulful...............2 much talent for one planet !

  • he feeling it at 4:33 got me all hyped!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Glen had a very powerful voice. In my personal opinion the Parliament was not the same when he left. May he rest in peace. I'm sure the angels are moving above from his powerful voice.

  • Yes Glen!!!! RIP Bra!

  • Shut it George and let Glen do the singing

  • All I know is I have seen this in its entirety and it is one of the best PF shows and quality I have ever seen...I wish I still had the VCR tape of it but it is out there

  • why doesn't this have a million hits??? it doesn't get any better than this!

  • @MrAngrygary - just a matter of time......by about March 2012 by my estimation.......providing the world hasn't terminated itself in a Mayan Calendar Penthouse Centrefold time warp !

I've pre-booked my funkin ticket with the Mothership, anyways..........so keep the Funk alive !!!!!!!!!

  • SWING DOWN SWEET CHARIOT STOP AND LET THE SPIRAL EFFECT RIDE!

  • i think i see the mothership

  • @CKDRUMMER94 if you fake the funk your nose will grow

  • There should be a boo-ing button for people who dislike things this great.

  • How did this have two dislikes???

  • the funny thing is all of you guys aren't aware that Parliament was making you aware of whats to come through the music because the us gov't wont allow people to teach these things up front why do u think they gave Dr. Malachi York 160 yrs for statutory rape which never occurred and the max sentence is ten years... Please do your research people u deserve to know the truth...

  • I will never get tired of this!!!!

  • the roots

  • He ripped this off from Dr. Dre.

Of course he did, Dr. Dre was 11 at the time, a true child prodigy.

  • @GravityLimited Fuunnty!!!!!!

  • @GravityLimited ...And, they borrowed it from Dizzy Gillespe. Music is the last refuge of the Oral Tradition.

  • @GravityLimited ELVIS did this before him!

  • @GravityLimited Forgive him for he know not what the Funk he talkin about.

  • @GravityLimited he aint rip it off from dr. dre...dre ripped it off him

  • @GravityLimited I think cstalley is trolling.

  • @GravityLimited exactly! and 11 year old Dr. Dre genius! More amazing how Dre can go back and fourth thru time to make it happen.... Go Dre!!

  • @sacreddragon69 Hey Dre can i ride in your time machine

  • @GravityLimited love that response and please school that fool! p-funk and its offshoots are the DNA of hip-hop!

  • HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • @GravityLimited thats hilllaious. and coolio wrote fantastic voyage and got ripped off lol

  • @GravityLimited it is the other way around dr dre got this from

    mothership connection

  • @cstalley lamo find a bridge and please jump... that was the dumbest comment ive ever heard in my entire life and this is coming from George's godson himself....

  • @cstalley PLEASE tell me you're jokin'. Naw, you ain't gotta tell me, I know you are.

  • @cstalley there is so much wrong with what you just said. ask your older uncles kid.

  • @cstalley can't tell if trolling or just really really dumb..

  • @cstalley you are forgiven. u must have first heard the Dre version and thought u were seeing something new when u say the PF version.

  • @cstalley ...Dumbass -.-

  • To quote THE man, "Everything that is good, is nasty." 'Nuff said.

  • GLEN GOINS 1954 1978 RIP

  • @playsbass1969 A real genius musician...Plainfield, NJ, was responsible for three awesome musical figures: Glen Goins, Richard X Heyman and Richie Hass. Unfortunately only Heyman's around now. Both Goins and Hass died of blood cancers...one of the hazards of living in Plainfield was all those friggin chemical plants. I am sure that in Richie's case (ObDisclosure: Richie was my hubby) he got multiple myeloma from exposure to all those chemicals.

  • @MsGeek703-That is some deep and very informative stuff that you're laying down.

  • WOW... WOW... WOW!!! I remember going to the concert in Pittsburgh. When they had that spaceship come out, we lost our minds!!!!! How HOT was that??? Nice!!!

  • what song leads into this

  • EPIC!!!!!

  • q swing

  • Couldn't fit in the other message box all I wanted to say. When someones feelin real funk, it's almost like a religious or out of body experience. It's unreal and hard to explain unless you been there. Not a care in the world, a feeling of being freer than free.

  • The beauty of funk was anything went. The more outrageous you were, the more free you were. The more REAL you were being with yourself. These guys were ahead of my time but none the less, being from Detroit, it's only natural to have grown up listening to their music. Is it true they used to record on 8 mile near Woodward in a music studio out that ways?

  • glens the man ya'll know he's up there with the mother ship where fantasy is reality and he's just funk N round for fun

  • Glen Lamont Goins
