The British did conquer Afghanistan. They invaded more than once. And one of the main problems in Afghanistan is that there's so many different allied nations fighting there. Bush listened to his critics and allowed a multinational force take responsibility for maintaining Afghan security after U.S. lead forces totally annihilated the taliban and al queda in only a couple of months.

But we did win in Iraq. So it seems indeed you can defeat insurgencies. It's definitely not easy however. Waging an insurgency is possibly the easiest thing to do in the world. You run around planting bombs everywhere and take sucker shots at soldiers in uniform while you yourself hide behind civilians. Counter-insurgency on the other hand is probably the hardest thing to do militarily. But with competent military soldiers, commanders, political leaders, etc, you can in fact do it. Cuz we did.

Also, there is probable cause that Bin Laden *might* be dead. He is on dialysis, and is not in very good overall health. At this point, it wouldn't help too much to capture him, because some other raghead would just replace him and do the same stuff he did.
