Long Haul Fleet of Austrian only contains 763s and 777s. There aren't any A330 oder A340 anymore.

Thats correct! I flew their 763 "Salzburger Festspiele" from Thessaloniki to Vienna last summer. It kinda surprised me they used such an aircraft that time since it´s a fairly short hual. It was however a nice change from the standard 737 which normally operates routes like that.

It's because it uses a lot of fuel compared to 777. 777 has more seats and uses less fuel so more airlines are selling their A340s. (They're idiots A340 rules)

@MISSIRES Hey, no you haven't right. Lufhansa and Austrian are two seperate airlines! Lufthansa is now the owner of Austrian but Austrian have a own management. Lufthansa gives only the money.

AUA didn't scrap the A340s. They needed to halve their long haul fleet and realised they'd get a better price selling the A330s and A340s. Most of the A340s went across to the border to Swiss

LOL. I agree! That blue is really ugly. Compare it with the blue used in KLM. KLM's blue colours are very, very nice and their uniforms match the colours very well too. But that light blue/pale blue of Austrian is yuck!

I was puzzled by this video because i didnt remember Austrian Airlines having an A340. In Fact, they sold the only 4 A340's they used to own because of financial problems.... :/ They no longer own any. But they do own 4 777's :)

Austrian Airlines sold all their Airbus long-Haul aircraft including this A340-300 and acquired all Lauda Airlines 767 and 777 long haul aircraft during the Merger. I was told by an Austrian Airlines employee that this would save the airlines something like 50 million dollars a year, But recently Lufthansa has purchased Austrian and probably bring back a all Airbus long haul fleet.

it's probably not an old video considering this is Austrian's new paint. And Qantas is an entirely separate airline that has been around for almost a century, and at least a few decades longer than Austrian. Qantas is an Australian airline, not an Austrian one :)
