@imswiney56 Yes, and his book is 100% different from this. I'm not even sure the actor's portrayal works. In the photos, the real Fick looks really tired and worn out. In this, he looks like a baby-faced pop singer.
i found this series to be very poorly made but the one thing i came away with was that nate is a hero to me. he's an old fahsioned kind of marine leader. clear headed, compassionate but commanding respect....he makes me proud.
@keysersozaed Godfather was fine. He did care about his soldiers to a certain extent, yet like any other officer, he would want to impress his superiors eg. taking the airfield.
Patterson was a great company commander unlike Encino Man. That guy couldn't win any argument with Lt. Fick without making himself look like an idiot.
NateFick voted for McCain in 2000 and Obama in 2008 (he was also a speaker at the 2008 DNC), and now runs a security think tank called CNAS that is downright pragmatic by Washington standards. I'm glad he's in a position to influence foreign policy, because he seems to have his head in a good place and the heart to keep it running.
If you all liked Generation Kill I strongly suggest you read Evan's book that the series was based on, and then after that I suggest you read Nate Fick's book called One Bullet Away. Both of them are classic books.
LT Nate had the hardest job there - trying to keep up battle tempo, deal with BS orders or fixing other officer's BS, all the while trying not to lead his men into a potential meat grinder...
AH YES I REMEMBER THE ORIGINAL Person Nate Fick Wrote a Book "one bullet away" and THat should be made as a Sequel for this!! *except it is in afghanistan)
Yes I do. Nate Fick seems to have been one Hell of a Marine officer, and the book is very well-written and gripping. I'm just up to the part where OIF is about to start.
Dunno, only arrived recently and I haven't got round to it.
The book 'Generation Kill' is superb though, a must-read if you like the series, as Evan's insight into the situation and the different Marines is more prevalent than it is on screen.
the whole "J-lo" thing made me laugh my ass off. it looks like his character is debating on how to handle the situation and i love how he takes a moment to think about it
I got the feeling this series was heavily biased in Fick's favor. It's from the point of view of an embedded Rolling Stone reporter. The series paints him as a bastion of moral authority. The other officers are portrayed as caricatures. Everyone Fick was on bad terms with was exaggeratedly lambasted by the mini series. Evan Wright kind of grew attached to some of these men and may not have been objective.
The vid I wanna see is the story about 'Captain America' the moron and the rest of the fuck up command staff..Now that would be interesting footage. And what would the real players in that story think about how they were portrayed. I'm an ex military NCO and I can tell ya that is exactly how they are...half of 'em..dumb as rocks.
encino man was an asshole, yea, when they were playing football alphas captain started on him. I felt sorry for Lt Fick having a Cpt that was so useless, it made me wonder how he even got to become a company commander.
Encino Man came from an Intelligence platoon ironically. Hes not as bad as he is portrayed. Remember he isnt making up orders, he has to do as he is told too.
