  • "She's Puerto Rican... you're Mexican."

  • wow this guy is a great actor. and if they did accurately portray Lt. Fick (the real marine) he seems like an amazing person.

  • hihi, fick.

  • this guy is a GREAT actor

  • didn't he write a book? "One Bullet Away"

  • @imswiney56 yes im reading that right now its pretty damn awesome

  • @imswiney56 Yes, and his book is 100% different from this. I'm not even sure the actor's portrayal works. In the photos, the real Fick looks really tired and worn out. In this, he looks like a baby-faced pop singer.

  • i found this series to be very poorly made but the one thing i came away with was that nate is a hero to me. he's an old fahsioned kind of marine leader. clear headed, compassionate but commanding respect....he makes me proud.

  • Fick? Its german for fuck :)

  • Love the chatter in the background of every scene eg

"Hey man, I thought you were Mexican."

    "I am."

"Well then why ain't you loud and stealin' my shit?"

  • is Lt. Fick an ROTC commisioned officer?

  • @poprocks4 No he is a Platoon Leaders Class officer

  • best generation kill line "And bring your canteen. It's gonna be hotter then two rabbits fucking in a wool sock."

  • "puerto ricans are just tropical mexicans"--generation kill quote

  • god i admired this guy the most, he was the ONLY one of the leaders who knew what the fuck he was doing

  • @Huhmasta Except for Capt. Patterson and Godfather (excepting Godfather's decision to rush the airfield).

  • @keysersozaed Godfather was fine. He did care about his soldiers to a certain extent, yet like any other officer, he would want to impress his superiors eg. taking the airfield.

Patterson was a great company commander unlike Encino Man. That guy couldn't win any argument with Lt. Fick without making himself look like an idiot.

  • Oh no! not j-lo!

  • NateFick voted for McCain in 2000 and Obama in 2008 (he was also a speaker at the 2008 DNC), and now runs a security think tank called CNAS that is downright pragmatic by Washington standards. I'm glad he's in a position to influence foreign policy, because he seems to have his head in a good place and the heart to keep it running.

  • If you all liked Generation Kill I strongly suggest you read Evan's book that the series was based on, and then after that I suggest you read Nate Fick's book called One Bullet Away. Both of them are classic books.

  • lol fick is the german word for fuck

  • The guy who looks 16 is the most competent leader of all. I wonder how the invasion would have gone with some Lt. Fick clones in the higher ranks.

  • @wannabelegion Dude, the invasion would have been a lot more effective with a lot of Nates running around. And he looks younger than 16, man.

  • Hard to believe that one platoon got the most competent officer and senior NCO in the entire company arguably in the entire battalion

  • LT Nate had the hardest job there - trying to keep up battle tempo, deal with BS orders or fixing other officer's BS, all the while trying not to lead his men into a potential meat grinder...

  • The only officer in the series who wasn't an incompetent fuckhead

  • @nunan09 There was also Captain Patterson.

  • @JeffTham329 True, they were about the only two though

  • @nunan09

Indeed... I fucking hate that Captain, what's-his-name.... He calls in a DC-arty on a tree anyways. Fucking asshole.

  • AH YES I REMEMBER THE ORIGINAL Person Nate Fick Wrote a Book "one bullet away" and THat should be made as a Sequel for this!! *except it is in afghanistan)

  • Just watched the series, Love it! Stark Sands is an actor who has a tremendous amount of talent.

  • @thesoundofmusic6 ya think??? he just had his last performance in American Idiot last night x]

  • "She's Puerto Rican you're Mexican."

  • 7 people sucks horse shit

  • Nate Fick has a book about the war and being in the Marines, called "One Bullet Away: The Making of a Marine Officer".

  • @KingOfTheShrews

I'm reading his book now, and it's excellent.

  • @daina009 do you reconment i buy it?

  • @FuckinFirstRecon

Yes I do. Nate Fick seems to have been one Hell of a Marine officer, and the book is very well-written and gripping. I'm just up to the part where OIF is about to start.

  • @daina009 He's a highly intelligent and motivated individual. A true Marine.

  • @KingOfTheShrews Is it good?

  • @Kapelannew

Dunno, only arrived recently and I haven't got round to it.

The book 'Generation Kill' is superb though, a must-read if you like the series, as Evan's insight into the situation and the different Marines is more prevalent than it is on screen.

  • Stark Sands is perfect for this role.

  • "Im assured of this"

  • ...did he say "ex-Marine"?...

  • @Smithers6650 yes y

  • He's the rebel against the higher ranked officers; except the officers are dipshits and he's smart.

  • the whole "J-lo" thing made me laugh my ass off. it looks like his character is debating on how to handle the situation and i love how he takes a moment to think about it

  • so this is what tunny did when he left johnny and the city :p

  • @gailizcool lmaoo well duhh ;]

  • he's hot

  • The real Lt Fick is quite the remarkable character.

America will hear of him in the future.

  • i like his chracter...

  • Lt. Fick, the voice of reason

  • "you've got more optics and thermals on your vest then my humvee" he should have said bling xD

  • An army in small unprotected groups becomes cannon fodder in short measure.

  • favorite character in the series

  • hahaha love him :))) Met him too. Only in New York right? ;) He is such a great talent. Truely amazing.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE STARK SANDS!

  • I got the feeling this series was heavily biased in Fick's favor. It's from the point of view of an embedded Rolling Stone reporter. The series paints him as a bastion of moral authority. The other officers are portrayed as caricatures. Everyone Fick was on bad terms with was exaggeratedly lambasted by the mini series. Evan Wright kind of grew attached to some of these men and may not have been objective.

  • @chimpuman I Dont know if you have read Ficks Book One Bullet away but I highly recommend it

  • Ooh he said "Ex-Marine", at 2:30.

    Correct-FORMER MARINE!!!

  • isn't this is in broadway now ?

  • @rhn94 thats right.

  • lol "fick" is german and means "fuck"

    Lt. Nate Fuck :D

  • @SeargentGunner Ja lol xD

  • @SeargentGunner i googled it... and actually you are right...

  • I heard the real Fick didn't like the fact that this series was made. That's too bad, Gen Kill was a really great show.

  • Good movie...

  • Nate reminds me of Luke Skywalker for some odd reason.

  • Dude, same here...

  • @edgeninja yeah, they've got the same altar-boy quality

  • @edgeninja

odd? He's just like him. He's a very strong and important character trying to do some good, but he has that baby-face mark hamill (Skywalker)

  • @edgeninja kinda looks and sounds like him I guess. Unless you mean the real Nate. Then I can't help you...

  • @edgeninja Nate, this is Godfather. I am your father. Thumbs up if you heard Godfathers voice.

  • @edgeninja Luke wasn't really a leader though. More like a Star Wars version of Rambo.

  • @edgeninja maybe it's cuz he's played by a person named Stark, sounds kinda StarWar-ish :)

  • I read One bullet away wrote by Nathaniel Fick, It's a good read and it's nice to see his accounts on tv

  • The vid I wanna see is the story about 'Captain America' the moron and the rest of the fuck up command staff..Now that would be interesting footage. And what would the real players in that story think about how they were portrayed. I'm an ex military NCO and I can tell ya that is exactly how they are...half of 'em..dumb as rocks.

  • i liked fick cuz he would always defy encino man(who was retarded)

  • GORGEOUS!

    i loved Nate so much

  • "Ray, the battalion commander offered no sitrep on J-Lo's status."

    Hilarious.

  • 1.56 lmao j.lo my cuzin man ur mexican lol

  • And he's a democrat. Not all military folks are Republican.

  • He says he is a pragmatist that has voted for a Democrat 3 times and a Republican once(McCain in 2000). He's not a dem just because he supported BO.

  • Just bought One Bullet Away. So good so far.

  • I'm just about done reading it...you won't be disappointed

  • whos jaylo?

  • jennifer lopez look her up on google

  • it aint that jlo, it is a girl from the air force that was her nickname

  • If you read and watched Generation Kill you should definitely buy One Bullet Away.

  • he has a good book, its called "one bullet away"

  • does he ever kick Encino man's ass ??

    at least once please!!

  • No but i think it was Alpha's commander later beat the living shit out of Encino Man for being an asshole

  • encino man was an asshole, yea, when they were playing football alphas captain started on him. I felt sorry for Lt Fick having a Cpt that was so useless, it made me wonder how he even got to become a company commander.

  • Encino Man came from an Intelligence platoon ironically. Hes not as bad as he is portrayed. Remember he isnt making up orders, he has to do as he is told too.

  • This guy rules.

  • if you guys wanna see the real nate fick he is on the pbs special the marines, the only young man in the documentary

  • Was more intrigued by most of the other characters, tbh. Idk, he seemed pretty one dimensional imo, a good guy but a pretty boring fellow overall.

  • the one sane officer in bravo company

  • He's one the few leaders that really cares of his men.

    Strict but reasonable.

    Humane.

Respect him and you'll be fine.

I think my character pretty similar to his.

    Care about others.

I bet you guys felt the same way about yourself too :)

  • Fick? Don't sell this show to german speaking countries or rename Lt. Fick. Hahahaha

  • If you read his book and seen him, the real Nathaniel Fick is nothing like HBO portrays him as.

  • i dont think that was the point of the title, but that is just my opinion

  • Not at all.

I think the show portrayed him perfectly based off his own book and the Generation Kill novel.

  • I love his character! He's such a good leader and he shows emotions/empathy for others while not appearing to be weak.

  • All Hitman Victors, Obvserve evrything, Admire Nothing...

  • this is all real

  • I just finished that book. FANTASTIC. And that situation in the video where he tells the dude on the machine gun hes shootin too high is a real story, so maybe its all real.

  • its very real bro! haha great book like you said semper fi bro oorah!

  • HBO is prtty damn close to the book. the book is fantastic. Nathaniel Fick also has a book about the group, however from his point of view. may wana consider that. and i dont know if you've read JOKER ONE... its also amaizng.

  • Real life Fick wrote One Bullet Away. I'm reading it, and it is superb.

  • Can confirm that. Just finished it and especially the ending was very strong.

  • FICK means FUCK in german.. hahah

  • lol....?

  • well thats funny indeed..... you know larsanien means ''annoying tumor'' in Dutch..

  • omg i love programe it is the best m8 woop woop fit guys ort what hoot hoot

  • I read his book, it gives spectacular insight through the eyes of his men and himself. It also show kinda how things work when at war.

  • Go back to your goddamn drum circle rien.

  • kekeke, Fick means Fuck in german:P

  • Yup, and they'll give us thumbs down too.

  • its a part of polite social behavior to shoot some one at least everyday in america. in britain, you might wave and smile, but here in america we get our m16's and blast eachother away. you just wouldnt understand cus you dont surf, charlie.

  • thats just how I imagined him after reading the book

    : )

  • Love him-favorite character!

  • they sure cant name this guy "FICK" when this one comes to germany... :D

but i guess it will never be shown on german tv.

  • Im reading nates ficks book

  • 1:28

There are no such things as "ex-Marines," only "Retired Marines."

The change is forever. Semper Fi.

  • I never knew this was a true story.

  • when i join the Marines i just hope im as organized, smart, tactical, and as close to my men as Nate is...

My 2nd favorite character (for best leadership)

    Next to Ray (FUNNIEST CHRACTER)

  • yea,hes the best leader. the other officers were all useless.

  • Captain Patterson in Alpha was pretty good too. but yeah the others werent very effective

  • omg this guy is so cute !!

  • he is really cute!

  • Sands is really cute and resembles real Fick~

  • barley looks like the real guy

  • i hope im even half as good as that LT after i graduate from OCS

  • He's a Captain now =]

  • have you read his book? i have it, im planning to do the same thing as OCS, but in spain, and the book really give you an insight into an officers mindset :) it really helps i truly recomend it to you!

  • Life as a Lt. Good times. =)

  • My favorite character in the whole show!

  • "Ray, The Bn Cmdr didnt offer a sitrep as to J-lo's status" BAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • He was my fav character in GK -just a small note though: Fick means f**k in german and everytime I heard calling his name could not help thinking at that-. If the show comes to Germany, would be helpful to change the name./

  • Hey I take offense to that!!!

  • Oh god yeah! I hope this show comes to germany. I freakin' love it. Always wanted to show it to my brother, since he was once in Kosovo and twice in Afghanistan and this show is pretty accurate about real modern warfare, which he loves. Problem is his english is not so good which make the show to him unwatchable. :? I really hope it does make it's way to germany. I love it.

  • for those who dont know, this is based off of nathaniel flicks book "one bullet away" read it, love it!

  • Actually it's based of Generation Kill written by Evan Write. Fick did write a book and his and Write's books are recomended for USMC Officers to read. Shows the actual inaccuracies in it huh? And that last sentence is sarcasm.

  • Lt. Fick is the definition of a good leader. If all of our commanders and leaders were like Nate Fick, we would be alot better off.

  • i love this show

  • Nathaniel Fick for President in 2028. Just spoke at the Democratic National Convention. Nevermind politics right now: Fick makes us all proud.

Never have I read such a clear thinker about leadership & foreign policy. Not only that, he cares about humanity & deeply understands the human condition.

Tom Ricks (Making the Corps; FIASCO) was who he saw speak at Dartmouth. (Not sure Ricks is former USMC. Wiki is inconclusive.)

This actor looks good though. Can't wait to watch the series.

  • Why does he as a Lt. have the longer M16 instead of the M4 like his Sgt's below him?

  • Because he's the leader and he has to lead. Therefore, he needs a rifle that can go automatic (only the m16 offers that), so he can minimize the risk the men that follow him might experience.

  • The M4 can go fully auto matic as far as I know. They just don't show it in the series.

  • M-16 A3 is full automatic! only few were made in the 80s >_>

  • I heard a M16 is a bit more powerful than a M4 . Im not sure if they give ceratin people certain weapons based on there rank either

  • Depends on whos in charge usually. Sometimes they give everyone m4s...or they will give the lowest ranking or the biggest person the support weapon.

  • its alot more powerful..

  • yes it's more powerful and officers get to chose thier weapons as long as its practical (these choices exclude machine guns), so it makes sense that Fick could have one

  • they have the same ammo, but the m16 has that small advantage at having a longer barrel = more distance. power wise i dont think theres much of a diference :)

  • Being the same caliber the M16 would only providemore power from muzzle velocity but the barrel is so long that I think an M16 would actually have a lower muzzle velocity due to drag on the bullet.

Im not an engineer or firearms expert butmy guess is the do the same job with slightly different characteristic due to the lengths of each weapon.

  • Loved this series!

Fick is really cool, if he really commanded like that he is certainly an asset to every unit

  • nick is cool

  • the marines kick ass!!! i already know i want to be one some day and i am only 13 this show kicks ass

  • Oo Rah! Me too, and I'm 14.

  • "When u quit Marines u have your brain back" - don't forget

  • War is 90% waiting and 10% action live for that 10%

  • Great actor. Perfect in this role. You can see his character's thoughts in his eyes, even when he has no lines.

  • Word. My thoughts exactly.

  • I wonder how the real Nate Fick feels about this portrayal.

  • Read his book "One Bullet Away". It's a great read, and has helped me immensely in my quest to join the Marines.

  • "One Bullet Away" is one of the best books ive read, awesome book

  • is there any where i can whatch this online i have seen the first episode in a hotel and im addicted plz reply

  • He reminds me of Winters in Band of Brothers. Same type, and same rank in the beginning.

  • looks like him as well

  • The minute I saw him and heard him in epicsode one I thought the same thing. Now even how he acts and the way he commands is just like Major Winters.
