Well as someone who has studied some aspects of Buddhism for a few years , I disagree. Tolle's teachings are defintely similar to Zen/Ch'an Buddhism. Also close to Advaita / Vedanta and Christian Mystics . I've never heard of Secular Universal Unitarian...not in Europe.

It's a shame so many people condemn Oprah, who has overcome a great deal to achieve her success, and seeks to assist others to grow in myriad ways. You can't build yourself up by tearing others down, and so many who post here claim they are doing so in the name of Christ - yet their posts are invariably non christ-like. As someone who has been in the helping profession for many years I find it sad that there are still so many willing to believe that dogma is the only way to live.
To paraphrase Ghandi, I like christ, I don't like christians - they don't seem christ-like at all.
Some of the people who post here are ample proof of that. Jesus fulfilled 300 prophesies to the letter. Isaiah 9 says the Messiah will be called Everlasting Father (God). Jesus stated: "Before Abraham was born - I AM" (I have always existed and will always exist). Isaiah 53 describes His trial and crucifixion - 600 years before it happened.
But what PROVES it to me is 27 years of personal experience - seeing Jesus working in my life, and the lives of others.

Tolle pushes a hodgepodge of Budhist and New Age themes. The Bible proves itself with 3,000 fulfilled prophesies. What proof does Tolle have that HIS philosophy is True? Just being sincere doesn't cut it.

Oprah and her gurus refer to Jesus Christ in all their teachings despite their mangling of the inspired Biblical Word. Oprah refers to herself as a Christian and yet she denies the very principles of Christianity.
If people want to follow the next fad then that is entirely their choice but when they use the name of Christ to extol the virtues of their beliefs, then Christians who are fundamentally true to the Word of God are, naturally, offended.

There are thousands of scholastic studies - albeit difficult for the laymen to study them - which prove that the claims the bible makes are historically correct. Add to that the growing archeological evidence. Why not get the facts from the myriad credible sources?

haldor, it is not theology - it is the written, living and inspired Word of the almighty God of all creation. A common problem is that the scripture relating to the Kingdom of Heaven being within is widely misused and misunderstood by New Age seekers and unbelievers. Jesus was talking to BELIEVERS about the Kingdom within. Being a believer is not simply believing in Jesus (demons do this), it takes a supernatural conversion by the Holy Spirit which then leads one to turn from sin, repent and obey the Bible. The Kingdom of heaven (holy knowledge) then becomes available to the regenerated, saved person.
This video is almost entirely unbiblical save for one glaring truth... it is fulfilling the prophesies perfectly. Is Jesus or, as the video so manipulatively suggests, "I AM" in this new religion? No. We are sinners and without a true conversion - a holy regeneration - by the Holy Spirit through Jesus Christ, we are bound to face the righteous wrath of God. The bible warns people not to fall for these deceptions. Christians, turn away and read the holy Word of God. The New Ageism is an evil lie.
People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't think that's what we're really seeking. I think what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonance within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive. But sadly, farcanal29, if a person does not receive salvation through Jesus Christ alone, they are NOT alive. The holy scriptures tell us in no uncertain terms that everyone who is unsaved is spiritually dead in sin & the eternal consequences are a "second death" in Hell - Jesus spoke more about Hell than He did about Heaven. Wow you really need to read up . There was no other Christian church at the time of the Inquisition other than Catholic. The persecution was against heretics within the church and against all non christians especially Jews who were forced under torture to convert.

You say no other christian churches at the time of the inquisition, but the first inquisition (1184- 1230s) came long after multiple churches split from roman catholicism.

Well as someone who has studied some aspects of Buddhism for a few years , I disagree. Tolle's teachings are defintely similar to Zen/Ch'an Buddhism. Also close to Advaita / Vedanta and Christian Mystics . I've never heard of Secular Universal Unitarian...not in Europe.

You can't build yourself up by tearing others down, and so many who post here claim they are doing so in the name of Christ - yet their posts are invariably non christ-like. As someone who has been in the helping profession for many years I find it sad that there are still so many willing to believe that dogma is the only way to live.

Oprah and her gurus refer to Jesus Christ in all their teachings despite their mangling of the inspired Biblical Word. Oprah refers to herself as a Christian and yet she denies the very principles of Christianity.
If people want to follow the next fad then that is entirely their choice but when they use the name of Christ to extol the virtues of their beliefs, then Christians who are fundamentally true to the Word of God are, naturally, offended.

Lee Strobel's book, despite its high sounding title, miserably fails to make a case for the historicity of Jesus Christ. Strobel, without doubt, is a dramatic writer. Unfortunately, drama cannot substitute for substance, logic and consistency. Drama is not evidence.

There are thousands of scholastic studies - albeit difficult for the laymen to study them - which prove that the claims the bible makes are historically correct. Add to that the growing archeological evidence. Why not get the facts from the myriad credible sources?
If you believe the teachings of Christ to be foolish, then take Tolle's book as evidence that Christ is within? You easily place your trust in Oprah's gurus without a jot of proven evidence that his claims are true. Hypocritical?

One person or group of people comes up with an interpretation of a giant being or beings, and then they try to convince themselves and others that such a god person is ABSOLUTE REALITY, shoving their interpretation down everyone else's throats, or, as the case may be, into their minds. The Bible has to do with this clip because Eckhart Tolle is a lost soul inadvertantly leading people into a new, treacherous and deadly way. The bible describes it as a wide way and it leads to hell. A common problem is that the scripture relating to the Kingdom of Heaven being within is widely misused and misunderstood by New Age seekers and unbelievers. Jesus was talking to BELIEVERS about the Kingdom within. Being a believer is not simply believing in Jesus (demons do this), it takes a supernatural conversion by the Holy Spirit which then leads one to turn from sin, repent and obey the Bible. The Kingdom of heaven (holy knowledge) then becomes available to the regenerated, saved person.

The holy scriptures tell us in no uncertain terms that everyone who is unsaved is spiritually dead in sin & the eternal consequences are a "second death" in Hell - Jesus spoke more about Hell than He did about Heaven. Those that slaughtered seemed to be suppressing the bible. Look at the inquisition...it was a war between christians and catholic church. The same catholic church which kept the bible locked up on the altar, and written in latin. The same catholic church that idolizes beings (saints) other than god.
I used to believe religion had killed many people.....now I believe that those people died because they truly believed in christ, not in the infallability of the church (slavery, ww2, pedophilia).

Wow you really need to read up . There was no other Christian church at the time of the Inquisition other than Catholic. The persecution was against heretics within the church and against all non christians especially Jews who were forced under torture to convert.

What, for instance, would have happened to someone who had a copy of the bible hidden away in their home?
You say no other christian churches at the time of the inquisition, but the first inquisition (1184- 1230s) came long after multiple churches split from roman catholicism.

Well...I believe in the revelations, but I rather not see it's all happening yet. As this oprah-religion practically unfolds into nothing but "what's good and evil is only defined by you", I rather have someone to remind me what's good when I'm in doubt. Of course I agree with Eckhart Tolle, he has plenty of good to tell, but only as philosophy. There is a complete error and confusion that this is some sort of religion, and you can't start leading people away from Christianity like that.
