  • Is it possible to purchase a video of this?

  • I am so very happy to find these...Thank you!

  • It doesn't get much better than this..

  • LOL........love those Statesmen ! And .....is it just me or does Hovie resemble Floyd the Barber from the old Andy Griffith show ??/ LOL

  • I LOVE THIS OLD HYMN!

  • One of my favorite hymns! Great job!

  • agree they were the standard and so original for their time. i had a hard time forgiving jake for leaving the group and starting the imperials. news traveled slow back then cause i didn't find out he left till 1965.

  • Just some of this BEST!!!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Growing up in the panhandle of Texas back in the 50s and 60s, this really brings back wonderful memories. My dad was a carpenter, worked 6 days a week, but when the Statesmen and the Blackwood Bros. were in Lubbock, Tx for concerts he would drive home 35 miles, change into suit, drive Mom and I back so we could see them. They will all always hold a special place in my heart. And they were soooo good.

  • muy buenos los dos cantos.

  • In my book, the greatest quartet of them all. There are good ones sure. But these guys are the best.

  • That is just DANDY!

  • Well even Bill Gaither can get it wrong! That is not Jake Hess in 1959 he was not singing with the Statesmen.

  • You are so smart if that isn't Jake just who is it.

  • I was having trouble getting back to this. For some reason I had got Jake mixed up with Denver! So I bow to the fact that I was wrong.I found some old Imperial albums at a friends and started looking back. Jake did ot get his hairpiece right away and he looks different there too! My eyes are not as good as they were but this Christian can admit to being wrong!!! just forgiven not perfect! Happy thanksgiving!

  • that is jake hess he didnt leave the statesmen until 1963 this is 1959

  • They are very very good... but number one was the Blackwood Brothers Quartet whit J.D Sumner James B Cecil B and Bill Shaw

  • I'll never argue that the Blackwood brothers were very very good

  • Quartet singing at it's finest.

  • I first heard of the statesman from the first Gaither video. Statesman are w/out a doubt the standard that all Southern Gospel Quartets should be measured by. From watching this you can see the excitement, charisma, their love for God.

  • Thank you. Very good video.

  • The best of the very best!!

  • Does it get any better than this quartet? Hovie and Jake (and the others for that matter) are truly what make gospel music a treat.

  • You just can't beat those old classics!

  • Awesome!!!

  • love it! I have this same thing on CD too!

  • Gospel quartet singing at its finest!
