You know there is a shit-storm coming when former Bush attorneys start singing like canaries on national TV without taking the fifth, or declaring executive privilege.
Obama is ending harsh interrogation methods due to ethics concerns. The CIAs job is now harder but its the right thing to do, Obama assures them. Obama does not apply this same logic to abortion. Why not? Okay, you get an unwanted pregnancy. The easy way out is an abortion. But the ethical way out is to go through with having the baby. Sure, your job will be harder but its the right thing to do.
Don't get me wrong, I think that abortion is disgusting and wrong. But I am Pro-choice because I believe that a no-one have the right to tell someone else what you can do with y.
before you make another comment, pick up a copy of the constitution and read it.
the issue of abortion is handled in the legislative and judicial branches. a law...and then, if neccessary a case to see whether that law is constitutional...
obama cant control whether or not abortion is legal...aside from the justices he may potentially appoint...justices which will probably uphold a womans right to choose.
you can learn a lot if you actually read the constitution
This is the real beef of the video. This is exactly the stance Washington needs to take. Otherwise Obama's going to tie his own hands in the political game the far right wants him to play. He's going to lose his window to take actions to reverse the Bush/Cheney years and cost his platform in the public arena.
No one but the loony right likes Bush/Cheney. Let's not empower them anymore by giving their outrageous policies any more room for debate.
and inconvenient because it conflicts with the other memo...which they needed to distort the law so they could conduct illegal acts under the guise of legality...
Actually, Rehnquist, Ailito and Roberts all want to overrule Miranda. Rehnquist seemed to have the votes but failed to pull the trigger late in his career when he had the chance.
History & Science prove the only legitimate information does not come from torture; In fact, an al Qaeda member confessed to al-Qaeda's Deputy Operations Chief Ayman al-Zawahiri location specifically because his captors were decent & fair
Moreover, heads of DOD make case people joined against America simply because of their indecent atrocities at Gitmo; and, that just as many Americans have died as a direct result of those atrocities at Gitmo as have died in the WTC towers!
Do you really think that that is a well-reasoned argument? The war in Afghanistan is not going well, therefore the interrogation techniques used there must not be effective. You don't think it may be because of the low troop levels, the lack of focus on that conflict for the past 6 years, the unpopular Afghan head of state, or the opium trade?
It has been shown that being fair and kind to prisoners yields better results. Read sugarpuddin88's comment.
The law is the law. The law does not care about parties. The Attorney General must follow his job description, investigate and prosecute where crimes are found. The congress must follow it's job description and do the same. We must affirm to ouselves and show the rest of the world we are a nation of laws.
MSNBC primetime shows seem to have low ratings, but that is because they provide more opportunities for watching their shows. MSNBC website, itunes, Hulu, DVR and TiVO provide viewers more opportunities.
This is the same Phil Selikow that lead the stonwalling of the investagation of the 9/11 Commission. For him to ave a sudden rush of conscience is amazing to me.

"inconvenient" is code for a "possible legal liability" is my understanding of his characterization of the memo issue. any thoughts?

yes...

Effectiveness does not equal legal.
Torture is illegal.
Torture is ineffective.
But even if torture was effective, it would still be illegal.
Bombing abortion clinics is effective, but it is still illegal.

Gimme a Break!
Obama will push the center over to the attorneys who wrote briefs - Which will over time, easily allow him to find cause to dump any investigation!
Martha Stewart & Lil Kim were jailed for lying, but no Politician nor Corp elite will be tried
Waxman, Kucinich & Rahm Emanuel doesn't make a difference; and everybody but the American sheeple know it!
America is a socialist country for corporations and Americans are ignorant sheeple who get the Government they deserve!
