i agree with infinism though marth is considered the best amungnst most doesn't mean you should forget about ike. people play better with certain characters then others. for example most would say C. Falcon could kick Ganondorfs butt. I on the other hand find i'm better with Ganondorf. His slow but powerful moves work well with how I play. so in the quetion of Marth and Ike, it's whoever your best with, oh and yes normal link sucks play as Toon link

It was the same case with young link(except for Aniki) he was a better character but I tended to play link just because he looked better.

depends link is weakest but fastest, marth is strong but not as fast as link, and ike is slower but stronger than them both

the real answer: Marth is god tier as of now, its a general consensus that he is the best. Ike is considered very strong, maybe even amongst the top, especially with azen owning up top players with his ike. But while ike is strong, many believe his slow attacks will ultimately lead to his downfall once people learn the game more thoroughly.

When i first heard about brawl my best characters were marth and ganondorf. when i saw that ike was in and not marth or ganondorf(before i found out they were) and watched videos of ike and how slow he is was thought, wow they got rid of my best characters and combined them into 1 crappy character...then i found out hes decent
