The original Boys of Winter marketing song, which this isn't, was from 83-84. The Penguins had been so bad the previous season (45 points) that you couldn't exactly have a marketing campaign that called the team exciting or talented or anything. The only thing they could say is to come watch the boys of winter grow. And the marketers were right, as the Penguins amassed only 38 points that season. This version is a remake from several seasons later, when they were building around Mario.
From 1:08 to the end ... it's inspiring ... I see myself be like Mario Lemieux and Sidney Crosby and do whatever possible to score goals, and never stop. Like if it was my mission.
The Boys of Winter song came about because of Don Henley's Boys of Summer song. It was a marketing campaign back in the 80s. This version is from the early 90s, not the late 60s.
Woah! Brings back memories of listening to the games on the radio. After the last few seconds of this song, I would hear Mike Lange say "It's a hockey night in Pittsburgh".
