If you are going to breast feed at this age have some manners about it. Cover your breast. YOu have the right to breast feed but the public has the right not to be put in the spot so to speak. It may be offensive to others so if you want them to be considerate of you be considerate to them. I think she is way to old but that is your choice..but that age in public is honestly sick to look at. You want respect with your choice give the people who have to look at you some respect.
no OFFENSE but maybe you should take your food to the filthy ass bathroom and eat it. Instead of shoving a woman with her baby in there! Men think breasts are meant for THEM! IT"S NOT! Everything on our body is completely logical and useful! What can your nipples do besides be a sad reminder that they hold no purpose! It's a beautiful thing to see a baby feeding off it's mother! You should be honored to see a woman brave enough to display such love!
Breastfeeding in public is a very practical (natural), personal, and political issue. It is healthy and encouraging for more mothers to breast feed. However, exposing your breast without a cover up in public is inappropriate, even if there is a suckling child to hide the nipple. It is hard for our minds to remove the sexual imagery we associate w/ reproductive organs. Imagine if a child fed from a man's penis, but all you could see is him/her on his knees under a table w/ its head bobbing.
@roguenify NO! Babies do NOT FEED OF A MAN PENIS! In fact! I think your dick might be the one who wrote that message! A man does not CARRY the child, does not give BIRTH to the child, and most of all, does not carry the hormones you share with your child. You are just there. You are meaningless after conception. Your DICK is no longer needed. SO shove off with your dick and lecture something else. Hmm. Maybe men who thinks breastfeeding is along the same line as a blowjob. Lecture that one!
@akasha6ix Firstly, I am not a man. Secondly, that's why I said "imagine if" men's sexualized reproductive organs nursed an infant (should man carry a baby). It's sometimes hard for our minds to divorce the sexual purposes and natural purposes of the act (breast feeding/penis feeding) when we see this in public. That's why openly breast feeding, w/o a cover up, can be awkward for the stranger enjoying her morning coffee at Panera, for example. Apologies if my analogy alarmed you.
@akasha6ix Also, what makes this example of breast feeding weird is that the person next to her is forced to "give her privacy" by not staring at her breast.Personally, sometimes I am curious and want to look, just out of sheer wonderment, but that would be disrespectful. So I have to pretend I don't see it and divert my eyes.
@roguenify There are so many wonderful garments to wear.Yes! She should've had a breastfeeding shirt or a cape. I spoke to a young girl (she was breastfeeding at the dr.'s office), whom I knew, and asked her about public breastfeeding and how she felt. She said "It doesn't bother me at all." There was a young curious boy, about 4 years old, just STARRING at her! She didn't look twice at him. She was, however, completely covered. She was wearing a drap that covered her and the baby's face.
how does the guy in the white shirt just sit there and pretend he isnt nervous as hell... I would have shot out of that store so fast or at least moved
Good for this mom. I presume Montreal has very pro-mom, public breast-feeding friendly laws?
We live in Vermont, a very mom-friendly, pro breast feeding state. The health benefits of breast feeding are overwhelming. Our daughter nursed until age 38 months, our son until 43 months. To those who would argue "that's too long!", I respond: you've probably never seen two kids so strong, kind, confident, smart, well adjusted, socially outgoing, happy and healthy.
the poor dude next to her trying to concentrate on his work... fair play to her for doing whats best for the kids.... but when is the appropriate time to call a halt???
@baezalejandro Maybe you should throw a blanket over your head...or simply turn away if you aren't comfortable with a Mother feeding her baby. Have you ever tried to eat dinner under a blanket? And as westcoastlovely pointed out in an earlier post, you see much more breast at any beach, pool, nightclub, magazine cover, mall, or just walking down the street. Why don't you suggest they cover up? When we breastfeed it's for a purpose. To feed our children.
@egcaper my sis covers her kid all the time when feeding. really it's not hard.
and no u don't see more titty in such situations becaus they're COVERED, and it's just plain old creepy to do it right next to the dude like that. see how he's covering his face?!!
he's an adult sure, but these bitches have no prob doing it in front of kids and teenagers.
@baezalejandro You're right, it's not hard. But it is awkward, uncomfortable and unnecessary. Most pediatricians reccomend against bumper pads in cribs because they restrict airflow and could contribute to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) so, how much airflow do you think is being restricted by a blanket over the head? I need to see her face to make sure she is latched properly and breathing comfortably.
@baezalejandro Second, the man is not covering his face he is leaning on his hand and writing, I do it all the time. Third, do you see her nipple? No, you see about 1" of breast. Tank tops definitely show more than that. And fourth, she is FEEDING HER BABY. I don't know how much clearer I can be! Clearly you and I will never see eye to eye on this, and you have some growing up to do. At the end of the day, she has the legal right to breastfeed, so don't like it? DON'T LOOK
@egcaper unnecessary? some ppl don't want their kids to see that shit. u do this in a muslim country out in public and they'll stone u for that or at least throw u in jail.
it's disrespectful to others and u can still breastfeed covered. don't give me that SIDS crap. eveyone in my family does it just fine.
before u know it ppl will be fucking on the streets or in front of their kids out of political correctness, because hey "its with their spouse." it's perfectly natural is the usual excuse
@baezalejandro I don't live in a Muslim country and I have the RIGHT to breastfeed wherever I want. And there you go (just like many other uneducated, closed minded, backward, and ignorant people) relating breastfeeding to a sexual act. Why is it you tools can't get it through your thick skulls, we are FEEDING our BABIES. It's not indecent or disrespectful, and it's not something any woman needs to hide. And again you see nothing but an inch of skin. Less than a tank top would show off.
@baezalejandro actually know they don't in every other part of the world most women breastfeed in public without even getting a second look. But if they show their faces that's a different story
@sonyagalloway the only places where they're condemned to show their faces are in islamic countries. and if they can't show their faces i very much doubt they show their breasts.
What's REALLY weird about this is that people think it's weird. That they would suggest giving a baby a bottle instead, or sitting in the toilet. HELLO? What do you think God made breasts FOR? It's not the fault of moms and babies that we live in a repressive society where the sight of breasts and breastfeeding seems "unnatural." It's about as unnatural as eating, as sleeping, as doing any of the other things that we, as biological creatures, as mammals, are designed to do.

@FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 Would you want to eat in a bathroom? Of course not; moms don't want their children to either. And not every baby will take a bottle.
@FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 Hardly anyone "whips out a boob". How much boob do you see in this video? An inch? *gasp* I'm assuming you never go to a swimming pool or glance at the cover of a fashion magazine? The Flying Spaghetti Monster would frown on you right now for acting like an uptight conservative. Breast milk is like white gold (it was recently discovered to kill cancer cells), babies deserve it and we can't help that it comes out of our boobs instead of a less "taboo" body part.
Do you eat YOUR dinner in the bathroom? Also, if you don't want to see a mother breastfeeding her child, A: don't look at her, and B: why did you watch this video in the first place? I suspect you just wanted to leave your ridiculous comment.
@FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 What does that have to do with anything? The question was, would you eat your dinner in a bathroom, or do you consider it too unsanitary to eat there? And part of the problem here is those who are against BFing in public are still seeing a sexual object. It's not a "tit" it's a BREAST, you fucking douchebag. It is made for feeding babies. That is all. The only tit here is you.
My children were healthy and were bottle fed.Despite what many people say that breastfeeding forms a special bond, well, so did I when I bottle fed! I held them close, talked or sang to them etc. By the time my daughter was 2 we had such a bond that I would find here sleeping either on the floor on my side of the bed, or asleep at the end of the bed! Oh, about breastfed babies are smarter. My son speaks Mandarin,Japanese, teaches English in Hong Kong and just got his Masters.
@brousseaua The studies don't say that breastfed babies are smarter then formula fed babies. It says that if a child is breastfed, they are smarter than if that (same) child was formula fed. There are things in breast milk that help brain development. What you chose to not do was lower your child's risk of several diseases and cancers. And you chose to not lower YOUR risk of breast cancer. That's taking a huge chance, wouldn't you say?
I fully agree with kids being less prone to illness from being breastfed. I breastfedmy daughter until she was 2 1/2 and she's rarely been sick. She does get the occasional cold obviously but it usually passes quickly. I've had friends that didn't breastfeed their children (not saying anything against it cause its their choice) and more than one friend had their child end up in the hospital from an illness. Not saying for sure that its from breastfeeding but I personally think that it helps. :D
my son is not breastfed and he is VERY healthy, so don't say they won't be healthy or get sick. My DS hasn't been sick once yet. I' not aganist breast feeding, and I'm not against it in public either.
I go into my local Starbucks and am promptly greeted by the SCOWL of a Urban American woman, she has tight cornrows and looks like she wants to fight me. I say "venti China Green Tips-please", she says "WHATS" as she continues to scowl at me. She finally understands my order, rings it up, overcharging me by 40 cents. She adjusts the price. I go sit down to drink my tea and this BURLY, Urban American woman is occasionally scowling at me,YIKERS. Anyone else have a similar Starbucks experience?
what an asshole this woman is...if you wanted to be an exhibitionist, you should have kept on the pill and got into porn. on this showoffs one other vid, she has a ton of makeup on with her 32 month old suckin away. u disgrace the otherwise natural and beautiful act of nurturing. ignorant bitch. nobody in starbux wants to see your long ass tits. have some discretion, or manners.
it is nice to breastfeed but, not everyone wants to see your boobs have some respect for the people around you and cover up with a blanky or something.
This woman doesn´t act natural. Breastfeeding should be natural, but she posts lots of videos and they all look like the same to me. Kinda showing of ! Change for a change, please!
Starbucks doesn't allow filming inside their stores. Especially if it is to be posted on a public forum. Especially if it politically charged. Especially if the video features an unsuspecting customer, who probably never signed a release. Show some gratitude for Starbucks, as they've never let you feel unwelcome while you nursed your baby in their store. You could at least respect their company policy, and protect them against legal or political exposure.
My daughter being due in November with her 1st and I thought videos of breastfeeding would help her catch on to the idea but this video was no help what was the point of the video though I think its importamnt for the baby n mother to have that special time together in or out of public I wouldn't do it in such a way in public just to prove I can I dont know about all the public viewin it scares me to think of how mant perverts see it as something dirty though we the normal ones see it as special
I think this is great my daughter is 19 months I breastfed her until she was about 14 months that is when she weaned herself. I miss it so much it was so special!
I am all for public breastfeeding. I'm a breastfeeding mother myself, but I do not agree with having your boob hanging out like that. At least when I breastfeed my daughter in public I use a blanket to cover up with.
That makes a lot of sense. As coffee addicts, we decided to just keep our consumption to 2 cups max a day because we figured if we drank more, the kids would be affected. I hope that was ok.
You misunderstand. I said she was not nursing in public because SHE likes to be watched, she was nursing in public because she doesn't want to be forced to hide.
Why do it on Youtube? So that people get used to public nursing, attitudes change, and women are not forced into giving formula.
The media largely dictates norms in our culture. Here we have an opportunity to use media to change 'norms'.
I am all for breast feeding, but I have to agree with some comments above: why do it in public? Why the need for other people to see it? Its natural so does not need promotion!
It has nothing to do with the mother wanting people to see it, it has to do with her not wanting to sit in the toilet while she does it, with the only alternative being refusing your child the breast.
PS This is an issue mainly with babies. Toddlers nurse much less often, so we no longer do it in public because our children do not ask for it in public. SImple.
@sonia989 - why can't you just use a breat pump and put it in a bottle and take it with you wherever you go, it seems it would be eaier that way, so that way no one is checking out your rack, while you feed your kid.
To old for being breast fed? I have to comment one more time. I am glad this lady has decided what is best for her child and not let the rest of the world make the decisions for her family. You do not know her childrens needs nor do you know anything about them.
Congratulations. I'm a Caucasian male from Africa and it's high time that the world stop looking down on parents that want to nurture their young. Not just nursing but in public without embarrassment and not feeling the need to cover up something that is totally natural. In basic, it's time the dark ages come to a close.
well drop the milk then my nephew is 3 now and since he was 9 months old he was off breast milk and hes fine and is well and so express the milk if u have to give her milk and she should be eating more then having milk
She would not drink cow's milk. A few sips at most- she didn't like it then and still doesn't at 2.
That pasteurized, homogenized garbage doesn't even compare, anyway. It looks and tastes like milk but it has been highly altered and most nutrition has been destroyed.
I'm very proud of you for having the guts to breastfeed this long, and to do it in public ! too many women think that "they can have formula, why breastfeed them" or "they have teeth now, they can eat table food". I hope more women catch onto what you're doing.
Thanks! If only people realized that our food is largely junk at this point. Even our milk is so processed, it's not even milk anymore, it just looks like milk.
yay mom! this is the way it's supposed to be! I hate it how some ignorant people think its perverted or mother earth show off whatever... I have been breastfeeding for 13 months and if I need to in public so be it! you fools eat it in public too dammit. = P
I think perhaps she's hoping that by having more than one video the topic will be a little more largely seen. Maybe eventually people will stop LOOKING FOR VIDEOS LIKE THIS then CRITICIZING the person who posted it. ;-)
It's still disgusting. Breastfeeding is a bonding moment for mother and child. This woman obviously wants the attention (positive or negative) or she would have no reason to video herself breastfeeding her child out in public.
Call me immature, hyper, weird, closed-minded, whatever. But it makes me UBER-uncomfortable,and I wont apologize for how I feel. And especially with babies over one year, why dont you PUMP it out and give it that way? A little too tree-hugging-mother-earth-I am-woman-hear-me- roar for my personal taste. But live and let live .
If you want to see why pumping is not the solution( besides that it takes time and is inefficient), see "breastfeeding Leigh at 2: weaning begins'. It's all about Mom for Leigh.
Good for you, that that boobs were made for. I did the same as you and some told me to go to the washroom to feed and I dont ever recall going to the bathroom to eat so why should our children have to. Most of the time knowone could even tell I was breastfeeding, they just thought I was cuddling with my babys.
Okay, I have a baby which I use to breat feed, my first comment was a little off so I really don't feel that there is anything wrong with Breat feeding I just feel that a blanket should be over the child and yourself to keep it kinda' private. Breatfeeding is a way for a mother and child to bond but I don't feel the bonding should be shared with others. My opinion.
My son would never stay under a blanket. In public, I usually nurse him in a carrier, which is discrete. The Starbucks crowd is mostly students and is cool about nursing, and it's nice for us not to have to hide in the bathroom. It's actually quite rare for us to nurse in public these days since our kids are toddlers and aren't nursing all day anymore.
maybe you need to eat in the bathroom instead, did you think of that? why does your sexual hangups which make you feel uncomfortable with nursing babies trump a baby's need to eat?
That is so great! I hope, if I have children, that will work for us aswell. I would like to breastfeed for as long as possible. As a baby I only agreed to nurse for 2,5 months, and I developed two chronic immunesystem related diseases in my teens... Much possibly related to this fact..
A lot of babies go through 'nursing strikes' which the moms interpret as the baby 'being done with nursing', though it's really only temporary. Go see my vid 'Got milk' where my son was 4 months old. At least you did get 2.5 mos of BF, which is more than most babies do.
Vaccines also increase autoimmune disease risk, especially asthma and allergies (3x the risk).
I wish you all the best as a future breastfeeidng mom!
Thankyou for your reply. I watched your video 'Got milk'. It's good to know for the future that this kind of temporary issue can arise. Surely there can be other difficulties too, but surely they can be resolved by other than changing to formula! It seems as if moms would need more support though, because I know many who have moved to formula because they don't know how to solve the problems that arise otherwise.
I remember when my daughter was this age, and I have a picture of her trying to nurse her Barbie doll! She also would breastfeed her baby dolls. We never had toy bottles. Why would we? I remember nursing her on the plane back from Germany, and there were some very rude comments from some passengers around me. It's nobody's business but your own, sweety, and you're more in sync with the rest of the world. Only in America do we propose cutting off our kids at a year old.
What kind of of an idiot compares sex with a baby being fed?? I'm sorry honey but sex isn't exactly a necessity for life, or maybe in your sick world it is? A baby eating isn't "forcing someone's views on others". if you are disgusted by such a thing than maybe you should leave the establishment when it happens or better yet, get your head examined!!
I'm truly sorry for my last comment Sonia. I was no better. it's just that sometimes i get defensive on that whole topic because I struggled so hard & don't agree that your child is less than the one whom was breastfed longer. Lara's is wrong to say that one is in the hospital because of this, she of all people should not talk with all of Leigh's eating issues in the past.
& to the person who's speaking of respecting others.... With all due respect, it's a human right to eat in public, no exception for our children. Even a dog can eat on the damn sidewalk so it's very woman's right to feed their child whenever & wherever they choose to do so!!
With all due respect? How about the lady showing respect to the customers in Starbucks by not openly exposing her breast to those who don't care to see it? You wouldn't deliberately puke in the presence of others, nor would you take a dump where other people could see you. Same principle stands with breastfeeding.
I find your association of puking and deficating with a baby nursing to be offensive and disturbing on many levels. I can see why so many people need to seek psychiatric help and have to be put on hardcore psychotropic pharmaceuticals...
it's because they have so many hang ups and repressed sexual emotions which express themselves eventually in becoming pervs, serial killers or just general Aholes.
So because I find a woman breast feeding her 19 year old daughter in public, that translates to imply that I have repressed sexual emotions which turns me into a a perv or serial killer? Who fed you that crap, Michael Jackson or Charles Manson?
Furthermore, if you are so concerned about him being healthy maybe you should consider quitting smoking & taking methadone. Even though they don't discourage women from breast feeding because they are smokers it still isn't recommended!!
The thing about your "friend's kid being in the hospital & Leigh being Ok because of your breat milk" is a crock. I remember your kid being 'under weight' for a very long time & behind others who were not breast fed as long as her... And it's funny Sonia that you are such an avid advocate for breast feeding as you are when for the first year of your child's life you both breast fed & formula fed him equally.
There's such a thing as having respect for others around you. YOU might feel it's ok and rights as a mother but, maybe someone else will feel uncomfortable that you are doing this in there presence.
In a public place. I mean, just think about that for a moment. In your own personal space then fine but, you should at least consider an alternative such as a bottle using your own breast milk in public.
I think that it is wonderful that you are breast feeding. However, I do think that it is only fair, if in public you should cover your self when nursing. Some people may find it offensive.
You are assuming this. but if I go to a restaurant, I don't nurse my toddler at the table. At this Starbucks it is very common and acceptable. Also, it IS our right under Quebec law and is normal in our culture. Let me guess, you are American?
Regardless, it is a public place and not everyone would want to have someone forcing their views and actions in their face. Sex is natural but, you don't see people arguing they should be allowed to do it in Starbucks because of it.
I like that its still only the uneducated, white, red neck women who breast feed children. It still gives me hope for the rest of us in the normal parts of society who stop breast feeding before our babies become children. For those of you out there who don't understand the meaning of normal, it's what the majority is doing.
The unnatural attachment your children have to your mothering, only makes it harder for them to separate themselves in the long run. More harm than good if you follow me.
It's funny you say that because I have a university degree and Lara completed college. Studies show that breastfeeding and longer duration of it is associated with HIGHER education and socioeconomic status. 'Normal' as you define it does not equal beneficial. The majority also watch hours of TV a day, eat processed foods and take dangerous pharmaceutical drugs. It's time we change what people think is 'normal' when it comes to breastfeeding in North America.
Completing college is nothing outstanding, everyone I know has done that, myself included. Believe it or not it has nothing to do with receiving breast milk until we were teenagers and has a lot to do with wanting to better ourselves. Show me a normal person who takes pharmaceutical drugs and I'll show you a person who hasn't succeeded in life and should never breast feed in the first place. If that's the best argument your university degree can come up with, then honey you need to try harder.
great job mom!! a lot a ppl are so misinformed about bf'ing- it's sad to see all the ignorant comments. and like others have said- the WHO recomends breastfeeding until at LEAST age two- that the minimum ppl!
anyway just want to tell you your doing a great job and keep the vids coming!!
Yea!! Keep up the good work. Your daughter will be healthier for it. These other people are ignorant and obviously do not know any facts about breastfeeding or its benefits for babies and toddlers. WHO says to breastfeed until babies are 2 years old. Check your facts people!!!
OK, if kids could have bottles for prolonged periods of time, I'm sure they'd take it. It's disgusting when I see a five year old with a pacifier. At some point, you break the habit. You're making everyone uncomfortable. Pump your breasts and feed them with a bottle. If it is really about antibodies, that should work for you.
That guy behind you feels ridiculous. You shouldn't be breastfeeding in a public coffee house. No, it is not normal.
It's not only about antibodies. Leigh gets a lot of comfort from nursing and is no where near ready to wean. How do you know how the guy at the next table feels anyway and why should it be more important than how Leigh feels?
And actually, the fact that kids as old as 4 and 5 still use pacifieres and suck their thumbs shows they still have a need for the comfort they should be getting at the breast.
Sorry, but I think that's horrible. I understand a baby's desire to stay latched on to its mother's breasts when it's hungry because he/she is used to it, but the infant will never be independent if the mother keeps letting it get its way. It's the same as when a little child wants to be held, if the mother keeps picking her up everytime she cries, she will never learn to be away from mommy when she goes to school later on in life.
..Or if a mother picks their child up when they cry, keep showing them their infinite, unconditional love; the child can learn to be away from mommy, feeling strong and independent, because they know they are so loved.
That's what I mean. The longer the mother keeps breastfeeding her little child, the less it will want to feed from a bottle. The purpose of putting a child on a bottle is to teach it to be less attached to the mother as it gets older. If the mother spoils the child, how will it ever learn independence?
This is a common misconception, but it's actually the other way around. The more and the better the child's needs are met by the mom, the more the child internalizes this feeling of security and becomes a secure, independant adult. Meeting your childs needs is not the same as spoiling them.
The bottle doesn't teach independance, kids get dependant on the bottle. And bottle sucking causes orthodontic problems, too.
That's understandable. I used to have a friend who had a baby brother that was still bottle feeding at the age of 3. Instead of transitioning to a spill proof kiddie cup, she just thought she'd let him stay on the bottle and figured he'd grow out of it on his own. Bad idea.
What I meant was what *sonia989* explains below, very well put. The more love, comfort, feeling of being safe and close etc you give your child (which is given alot through breastfeeding), the more secure and independent will your child be as it grows.
It is so important to feed your child the breast as long as she wants to...you are lucky she lets you talk, my babygirl wants my full attention while nursing, I am not allowed to speak or watch tv...if I am quiet I may read a book but anything else and she cries and stops drinking...it may seem like a side job to us, but for them its the MAIN deal, what they wait for, what they love...and it was my babys only true relaxation.
I am a mom. I chose to breast feed for the nutritional facts, but it is terribly disgusting to breast feed your child for that long in age or in public. If you still want her to have the nutrition buy a pump and put it in a bottle. I do.
Culture plays a big role in the un/acceptance of extended nursing. Where I live nursing in public is commmon and not considered offensive. Our kids also nurse a lot for comfort, which a bottle cannot equal. Pumping doesn't work well for everyone and is time-consuming. We all have to just do what works best for us and our kids.
My son wasn't breastfed he has never had any illness however, 3 kids I know who were breastfed were constantly sick and had several ER visits due to being sick. So as far as the breastfed baby's are healthier as far as i'm concerned I don't see it.
Its nasty to watch a woman breastfeeding in public but it isnt nasty to go out to the beach and see hundreds of ladies in there WAY SMALL bikinis?????... Furthermore if you do not like it... DO NOT WATCH!

IT"S NOT!

@roguenify Breasts are not for sexual reproduction. Eek at your comment, peni sfeeding?
mychildrensmother10 1 month ago

Toddlers should be off the breast by that point. It's called weaning. If they are old enough to ask, the can use a bottle.

if u need to breast feed in public ok fine... but get a fucking blanket!!!
baezalejandro 1 year ago
@baezalejandro Maybe you should throw a blanket over your head...or simply turn away if you aren't comfortable with a Mother feeding her baby. Have you ever tried to eat dinner under a blanket? And as westcoastlovely pointed out in an earlier post, you see much more breast at any beach, pool, nightclub, magazine cover, mall, or just walking down the street. Why don't you suggest they cover up? When we breastfeed it's for a purpose. To feed our children.
egcaper 1 year ago
@egcaper my sis covers her kid all the time when feeding. really it's not hard.
and no u don't see more titty in such situations becaus they're COVERED, and it's just plain old creepy to do it right next to the dude like that. see how he's covering his face?!!
he's an adult sure, but these bitches have no prob doing it in front of kids and teenagers.
baezalejandro 1 year ago
@baezalejandro You're right, it's not hard. But it is awkward, uncomfortable and unnecessary. Most pediatricians reccomend against bumper pads in cribs because they restrict airflow and could contribute to SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) so, how much airflow do you think is being restricted by a blanket over the head? I need to see her face to make sure she is latched properly and breathing comfortably.
egcaper 1 year ago
@baezalejandro Second, the man is not covering his face he is leaning on his hand and writing, I do it all the time. Third, do you see her nipple? No, you see about 1" of breast. Tank tops definitely show more than that. And fourth, she is FEEDING HER BABY. I don't know how much clearer I can be! Clearly you and I will never see eye to eye on this, and you have some growing up to do. At the end of the day, she has the legal right to breastfeed, so don't like it? DON'T LOOK
egcaper 1 year ago
@egcaper unnecessary? some ppl don't want their kids to see that shit. u do this in a muslim country out in public and they'll stone u for that or at least throw u in jail.
it's disrespectful to others and u can still breastfeed covered. don't give me that SIDS crap. eveyone in my family does it just fine.
before u know it ppl will be fucking on the streets or in front of their kids out of political correctness, because hey "its with their spouse." it's perfectly natural is the usual excuse
baezalejandro 1 year ago
@baezalejandro I don't live in a Muslim country and I have the RIGHT to breastfeed wherever I want. And there you go (just like many other uneducated, closed minded, backward, and ignorant people) relating breastfeeding to a sexual act. Why is it you tools can't get it through your thick skulls, we are FEEDING our BABIES. It's not indecent or disrespectful, and it's not something any woman needs to hide. And again you see nothing but an inch of skin. Less than a tank top would show off.
egcaper 1 year ago
@egcaper you dont have a right to public nudity.... breast feed wiht a cover.

FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 1 year ago
@FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 Hardly anyone "whips out a boob". How much boob do you see in this video? An inch? *gasp* I'm assuming you never go to a swimming pool or glance at the cover of a fashion magazine? The Flying Spaghetti Monster would frown on you right now for acting like an uptight conservative. Breast milk is like white gold (it was recently discovered to kill cancer cells), babies deserve it and we can't help that it comes out of our boobs instead of a less "taboo" body part.
westcoastlovely 1 year ago
@FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7
Do you eat YOUR dinner in the bathroom? Also, if you don't want to see a mother breastfeeding her child, A: don't look at her, and B: why did you watch this video in the first place? I suspect you just wanted to leave your ridiculous comment.

i dont need to feed off a tit,
FlyinSpaghettiMnstr7 1 year ago

My son speaks Mandarin,Japanese, teaches English in Hong Kong and just got his Masters.
brousseaua 1 year ago

That makes a lot of sense. As coffee addicts, we decided to just keep our consumption to 2 cups max a day because we figured if we drank more, the kids would be affected. I hope that was ok.

tatiko22 2 years ago 2
Does not? Why put on display on youtub if the mother do not want to be seen nursing her baby?
goncalvespeloya 2 years ago
You misunderstand. I said she was not nursing in public because SHE likes to be watched, she was nursing in public because she doesn't want to be forced to hide.
Why do it on Youtube? So that people get used to public nursing, attitudes change, and women are not forced into giving formula.
The media largely dictates norms in our culture. Here we have an opportunity to use media to change 'norms'.
sonia989 2 years ago 12
I am all for breast feeding, but I have to agree with some comments above: why do it in public? Why the need for other people to see it? Its natural so does not need promotion!
goncalvespeloya 2 years ago
It has nothing to do with the mother wanting people to see it, it has to do with her not wanting to sit in the toilet while she does it, with the only alternative being refusing your child the breast.
PS This is an issue mainly with babies. Toddlers nurse much less often, so we no longer do it in public because our children do not ask for it in public. SImple.
sonia989 2 years ago 5
@sonia989 - why can't you just use a breat pump and put it in a bottle and take it with you wherever you go, it seems it would be eaier that way, so that way no one is checking out your rack, while you feed your kid.

It's actually quite rare for us to nurse in public these days since our kids are toddlers and aren't nursing all day anymore.
sonia989 3 years ago
Okay and you couldn't cover yourself with a blanket or something? It is naste to do that in public, go to the bathroom!!!
addylinn4 3 years ago
maybe you need to eat in the bathroom instead, did you think of that? why does your sexual hangups which make you feel uncomfortable with nursing babies trump a baby's need to eat?
maggieskaggs 3 years ago
That is so great! I hope, if I have children, that will work for us aswell. I would like to breastfeed for as long as possible. As a baby I only agreed to nurse for 2,5 months, and I developed two chronic immunesystem related diseases in my teens... Much possibly related to this fact..
mylighthouse10 3 years ago
A lot of babies go through 'nursing strikes' which the moms interpret as the baby 'being done with nursing', though it's really only temporary. Go see my vid 'Got milk' where my son was 4 months old. At least you did get 2.5 mos of BF, which is more than most babies do.
Vaccines also increase autoimmune disease risk, especially asthma and allergies (3x the risk).
I wish you all the best as a future breastfeeidng mom!
sonia989 3 years ago
Thankyou for your reply. I watched your video 'Got milk'. It's good to know for the future that this kind of temporary issue can arise. Surely there can be other difficulties too, but surely they can be resolved by other than changing to formula! It seems as if moms would need more support though, because I know many who have moved to formula because they don't know how to solve the problems that arise otherwise.
All the best,
'Yey for nursing'

I remember when my daughter was this age, and I have a picture of her trying to nurse her Barbie doll! She also would breastfeed her baby dolls. We never had toy bottles. Why would we? I remember nursing her on the plane back from Germany, and there were some very rude comments from some passengers around me. It's nobody's business but your own, sweety, and you're more in sync with the rest of the world. Only in America do we propose cutting off our kids at a year old.
Auriella1 3 years ago
What kind of of an idiot compares sex with a baby being fed?? I'm sorry honey but sex isn't exactly a necessity for life, or maybe in your sick world it is? A baby eating isn't "forcing someone's views on others". if you are disgusted by such a thing than maybe you should leave the establishment when it happens or better yet, get your head examined!!
ddvv77 3 years ago
I'm truly sorry for my last comment Sonia. I was no better. it's just that sometimes i get defensive on that whole topic because I struggled so hard & don't agree that your child is less than the one whom was breastfed longer. Lara's is wrong to say that one is in the hospital because of this, she of all people should not talk with all of Leigh's eating issues in the past.
ddvv77 3 years ago
I don't want to sound rude, But isn't she to old for that?
ashleytisdalelover76 3 years ago 3
& to the person who's speaking of respecting others.... With all due respect, it's a human right to eat in public, no exception for our children. Even a dog can eat on the damn sidewalk so it's very woman's right to feed their child whenever & wherever they choose to do so!!
ddvv77 3 years ago
With all due respect? How about the lady showing respect to the customers in Starbucks by not openly exposing her breast to those who don't care to see it? You wouldn't deliberately puke in the presence of others, nor would you take a dump where other people could see you. Same principle stands with breastfeeding.
Rawk4Life 3 years ago
As a matter of fact, Lara's tits are very popular with the locals.
Why do you think this Starbucks is so full all the time?
sonia989 3 years ago
I find your association of puking and deficating with a baby nursing to be offensive and disturbing on many levels. I can see why so many people need to seek psychiatric help and have to be put on hardcore psychotropic pharmaceuticals...
it's because they have so many hang ups and repressed sexual emotions which express themselves eventually in becoming pervs, serial killers or just general Aholes.
maggieskaggs 3 years ago
So because I find a woman breast feeding her 19 year old daughter in public, that translates to imply that I have repressed sexual emotions which turns me into a a perv or serial killer? Who fed you that crap, Michael Jackson or Charles Manson?
Rawk4Life 3 years ago
I hardly think you can compare breastfeeding in public with puking or pooing in public? A baby has as much right to eat in a cafe as you do.
ginarooey 2 years ago 2
Furthermore, if you are so concerned about him being healthy maybe you should consider quitting smoking & taking methadone. Even though they don't discourage women from breast feeding because they are smokers it still isn't recommended!!
ddvv77 3 years ago
The thing about your "friend's kid being in the hospital & Leigh being Ok because of your breat milk" is a crock. I remember your kid being 'under weight' for a very long time & behind others who were not breast fed as long as her... And it's funny Sonia that you are such an avid advocate for breast feeding as you are when for the first year of your child's life you both breast fed & formula fed him equally.
ddvv77 3 years ago
There's such a thing as having respect for others around you. YOU might feel it's ok and rights as a mother but, maybe someone else will feel uncomfortable that you are doing this in there presence.
In a public place. I mean, just think about that for a moment. In your own personal space then fine but, you should at least consider an alternative such as a bottle using your own breast milk in public.
LALLZ 3 years ago
I think that it is wonderful that you are breast feeding. However, I do think that it is only fair, if in public you should cover your self when nursing. Some people may find it offensive.
na923 3 years ago
People do not take offense in Montreal; it is common. See my vid 'Breastfeeding at 15 months' to see what happens when I use a nursing blanket.
sonia989 3 years ago
People like this don't care. They don't want to cover up "It's their rights"
I think it's more ignorant and selfish on their part to not consider others in public.
LALLZ 3 years ago
You are assuming this. but if I go to a restaurant, I don't nurse my toddler at the table. At this Starbucks it is very common and acceptable. Also, it IS our right under Quebec law and is normal in our culture. Let me guess, you are American?
sonia989 3 years ago
No I'm not American.
Regardless, it is a public place and not everyone would want to have someone forcing their views and actions in their face. Sex is natural but, you don't see people arguing they should be allowed to do it in Starbucks because of it.
LALLZ 3 years ago

I like that its still only the uneducated, white, red neck women who breast feed children. It still gives me hope for the rest of us in the normal parts of society who stop breast feeding before our babies become children. For those of you out there who don't understand the meaning of normal, it's what the majority is doing.
The unnatural attachment your children have to your mothering, only makes it harder for them to separate themselves in the long run. More harm than good if you follow me.
ssjs1437 3 years ago

No, it is not normal.
lmullen84 3 years ago
It's not only about antibodies. Leigh gets a lot of comfort from nursing and is no where near ready to wean. How do you know how the guy at the next table feels anyway and why should it be more important than how Leigh feels?
sonia989 3 years ago
And actually, the fact that kids as old as 4 and 5 still use pacifieres and suck their thumbs shows they still have a need for the comfort they should be getting at the breast.

Breast feeding into the toddler years is best just ike rear-faci ng longer is best.

This is my friend Lara and her daughter is now 22 months and they are still at it. Leigh is a boob addict, so what can ya do?

Sorry, but I think that's horrible. I understand a baby's desire to stay latched on to its mother's breasts when it's hungry because he/she is used to it, but the infant will never be independent if the mother keeps letting it get its way. It's the same as when a little child wants to be held, if the mother keeps picking her up everytime she cries, she will never learn to be away from mommy when she goes to school later on in life.

..Or if a mother picks their child up when they cry, keep showing them their infinite, unconditional love; the child can learn to be away from mommy, feeling strong and independent, because they know they are so loved.
mylighthouse10 3 years ago
That's what I mean. The longer the mother keeps breastfeeding her little child, the less it will want to feed from a bottle. The purpose of putting a child on a bottle is to teach it to be less attached to the mother as it gets older. If the mother spoils the child, how will it ever learn independence?
Rawk4Life 3 years ago
This is a common misconception, but it's actually the other way around. The more and the better the child's needs are met by the mom, the more the child internalizes this feeling of security and becomes a secure, independant adult. Meeting your childs needs is not the same as spoiling them.
The bottle doesn't teach independance, kids get dependant on the bottle. And bottle sucking causes orthodontic problems, too.
sonia989 3 years ago
That's understandable. I used to have a friend who had a baby brother that was still bottle feeding at the age of 3. Instead of transitioning to a spill proof kiddie cup, she just thought she'd let him stay on the bottle and figured he'd grow out of it on his own. Bad idea.
Rawk4Life 3 years ago
I meant his mother just let him stay on the bottle.
Rawk4Life 3 years ago
What I meant was what *sonia989* explains below, very well put. The more love, comfort, feeling of being safe and close etc you give your child (which is given alot through breastfeeding), the more secure and independent will your child be as it grows.

thats exactly how my daughter is too!

hell no dats shit is nasty.....she cant talk and you let her still nurse....nice breats im only thirteen...... :)

It is so important to feed your child the breast as long as she wants to...you are lucky she lets you talk, my babygirl wants my full attention while nursing, I am not allowed to speak or watch tv...if I am quiet I may read a book but anything else and she cries and stops drinking...it may seem like a side job to us, but for them its the MAIN deal, what they wait for, what they love...and it was my babys only true relaxation.
great job mom!

I am a mom. I chose to breast feed for the nutritional facts, but it is terribly disgusting to breast feed your child for that long in age or in public. If you still want her to have the nutrition buy a pump and put it in a bottle. I do.
ericaandtommy 3 years ago
Culture plays a big role in the un/acceptance of extended nursing. Where I live nursing in public is commmon and not considered offensive. Our kids also nurse a lot for comfort, which a bottle cannot equal. Pumping doesn't work well for everyone and is time-consuming. We all have to just do what works best for us and our kids.

My son wasn't breastfed he has never had any illness however, 3 kids I know who were breastfed were constantly sick and had several ER visits due to being sick. So as far as the breastfed baby's are healthier as far as i'm concerned I don't see it.
