so it wldn't make sense if u stick to standard tuning..

muscle memory is required to shred and tbh i shred on rythem not lead i preffer blues lead so depends what u getting at ...This riff will help ur fingers be more subtle for shredding rythem or lead .

Amp id say these 2 options as i dont know what you have...

1.Distortion between 7 -10 // bass between 4 - 7// mids / contour between 7 -10 // treble between 5 - 7

2. this is a scooped pantera sound ...

Distortion between 7 -10 // bass between 4 - 7// mids / contour between 0 - 4 // treble between 7 - 10

general rule in english never include the words

"papa","roach" and "shred" unless accompanied by the words "not" or "shit". not jippin ur lesson or anything just ain't a shred. useful but not for shredders maybe?

for a start this is the fundermentals of shred ...teachs you Muscle memory , stretching and something other than pentatonic boxs . . . When those that have learned this move on to modes there hands will be ready too learn them fast as well as expressing them... Legato techniques will also lean on this as well ... Papa roach is basic shred as far as im concerned no lesson out there will show this type of muscle memory and still sound cool because 99% of them are based on scales / modes .

why? only open D chord and a simple natural scale of chords , timing and rythem you can pick up , this isnt laid to rest by lamb of god its one of the most simplest songs in metal riffage ....

dead harmonics ( or atleast hats wht i call them ) like a tone you can out he pick and palm muting and releasing the palm muting too get what sound your after or too just highlight a time signature for dynamics

Learn some simple songs,like Nirvana songs come as you are, smells like teen spirit, about a girl etc. even if you dont like Nirvana. Learn easy solos like the one in SLTS and come back to this in a few weeks and you will find it to be much easier to play. I was about to give up playing cos i felt i wasnt gettin any better but i went back to the songs i first had trouble with and found that i could nail them (Dire straits - money for nothing) also practise scales, they help finger dexterity.
