  • was that a 50 1.8 lens and how big should the square/rectangle be?

  • for sony alpha camera, what lens is require??

  • @BobZOMG84 I use a 50mm 1.7 minolta lens for my Sony Alpha.

  • @mandiocaralada thanks :D

    Look at this: /watch?v=JCc1MUFSMFA&feature=related

  • @Schokokekslord - it's from garage band

  • ¿how do you get those type of colours on your video? ¿did you edited it?

  • what is a name of music?

  • @xxxxxxxJIGSAWxxxxxxx

  • @mandiocaralada Thanks!

  • @mattsphoto all right ill be sure to check it out

  • @mattsphoto You mean you're ACTUALLY getting every single light to have the shape..? At 5.6...? I've been trying this for over 3 months now at 3.5..and I've been failing..

Do tell how you did it please. Thanks.

  • @mattsphoto really? how? it only works with my 1.8

  • man thank you for that!! It really helped me! So awesome!! :)

  • what are the songs used in this? in order please(:, oh and i love your video im attempting it later with my Nikon D3000, already made the hood and cute out(:

  • does the heart shape, or any other shape needs to be in the verry middle of the lens for this to work?

  • Love it thanks sooo much!

  • Hi! great video! just wanted to know, what video editing software are you using?

  • So smart :D

  • this might also be asked a lot but I'm going to ask you :p:

so is black crafts paper or cardboard really needed or is any colour cardboard just fine??

  • @HKG36E - Ha, yea I think someone's already asked, but I didn't answer them because I don't know. I've only ever made it with black. Let me know if it works with other colors though if you give it a try, thanks!

  • @alta8bird i tried it with white, it works fine

  • @xriztof - awesome, thanks for letting me know!

  • For everyone asking... he's said it already in one of the answered comments.

    used a PRIME lens = 50mm, 35mm, 60mm, 85mm... etc. Anything that doesn't have a range of mm like the 18-55, 18-105, or 18-200 etc.

  • is this will work in any lens? by the way I have 18-55mm lens..

  • will this work with the stock lense from a olympus e 520?

  • Great - got it working today, cheers

  • Johnny Cupcake?

  • Can u do this also with brown paper? I don't have black paper...

  • can u do this without a fast lens?.. :p

  • Do you know any fast lens for Nikon D90? but, I need a good quality but cheap lens.

  • @sweet13prettyheart15 Nikon 35mm f1.8 or 50mm f1.8. Both the D and G versions will work with your camera, but if you are planning on upgrading in the future to a D7000 or what replaces that you would need the G version because that has the built in focus motor.

  • At first I was like, "wtf is this guy doing??"

But now I see this is easier then making a new lens cap every time you want a new design.

  • what video editing software do you use?

  • somebody please answer this!!!

so i tried this out, and i made this decent sized heart and put it over my canon 18-135mm lens, but once i take a picture, i just see a heart shape cut out. nothing like in the video happens! is this because my aperature is too small? the highest it can go is i think f/3.5.....does it have to be like 1.8 or bigger?

  • @TheNoNameUsername - this won't work with the lens you have. A 'fast lens,' as I mention in the video, is one that has a low f/stop - you need a lens that goes to 1.8 and take the photos at that aperture. "Fast lenses" are also typically "Prime Lenses" meaning they don't zoom, like the lens you are mentioning, they are only at one focal length. The one I used is a 28mm 'Prime' lens. Good luck

  • @alta8bird all right, thanks for clearing this up! now time for me to save up for a lens like that! :p

  • How to make bokeh like below?

    1. A skull bokeh with eyes.

    2. A doughnut bokeh.

  • was this for johnny cupcakes or something?

  • 0 dislikes - sick.

  • quick question, will the link u supplied with the whole kit work with a canon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 lens?

  • Heyy, Great video, but how does one heart make all the lights into bokeh ?

I mean there are more than one heart in the pictures...

    I have a D90...

  • @r3dtmko - That's because there are multiple sources of point lights (see the image of the christmas lights in the video that I show and mention)

  • Hey dude! Can i use a cutter instead of a Craft Knife? And your tutorial is very helpful to me. Thanks a lot!

  • you probably get this question a lot but does this work with digital cameras? I have a canon sd780 :P

  • @iiamjelly - this will only work with an SLR camera, no point and shoots, it's because of the lens. point and shoots don't get down to a 1.8 aperture.

  • @alta8bird aw boo. thanks a bunch! :)

  • @alta8bird no, i did it with my compact camera.

  • wow, what camera did you use to record this? did you record the audio with it also? so professional looking :)

  • do you think i could use a nikon coolpix S8100? thanks. great video :)

  • you can buy them from here too...

    photojojo . com / store / awesomeness / bokeh-Kit

  • woow, I really enjoy that. Tks! Your blog is awesome (y)

  • Will it work with compact cameras?

  • Thank you!!

  • what sofware did you use to edit this video?

    friggin cool video though`

  • OOT, what video editing software u use? :DD

  • need help, I am using the Canon 60d with an EF 50mm f/1.8 II. I have set the mode to TV and set the apature to 1.8 I have cut out my black circle with a heart in the middle, but I do not get the heart shape at all! its still like i have not put the bokeh filter on! what am i doing wrong! the I have make a few different sizes, one 10-15mm

and the other even smaller like 5mm, still no heart!

  • sorry i ment mode AV

  • its okay, i worked out why i was going wrong! i was not playing with distance. i have now done it.

what i do what to know is how did you get the hand in focus and the shapes (hearts) blured. as the only way i can achieve this is to switch my lense to MF

  • what i dont get is how you got so many hearts in the same thing. it looked like there was about 20 hearts (with the hand) or is that done with photoshop? did you also crop the hand in the picture?

  • @fallonjonas - I got so many hearts in that photo because I used the christmas light setup shown at 3:30 of the video. It wasn't done in photoshop. Good luck!

  • @fallonjonas You put one design "heart" on the front of the lens. I will then make a heart out of every single light in the "unfocused" part of your photo.

For example, If you have ten tiny Christmas lights behind a wine glass and you focus on the wine glass...the glass will be in focus but every point of light will look like your design (heart).

  • офигенно нужно будет попробовать

  • o, and nice video :)

  • It's important to keep in mind is that the shape you cut out should not exceed: "Lens Lenght" / "Aperture". So for a 50mm lens with an aperture of f2 the max size of the shape will be 25mm if it's directly on the glass. Usually it's a bit in front of the glass so you should go a little smaller.

  • Hi dude. Im using a sigma 18-55 with 67mm glass. I have tried many times making a heart shape bigger and bigger so you cant see it when i look through the lens at the full 55mm, now the shape is massive compared to the lens itself, unlike your video. Am i doing anything wrong or should i still be able to see bits of the card through the viewfinder? Thanks

  • @thatadamkid92 - It really depends on your aperture, unless you have a lens that can get down to about f/1.8 you're going to have some trouble getting the bokeh shape. Sounds like you've got a kit lens that can only probably get to f/3.5 which isn't really small enough and sounds like your shape is too large. Also check out my blog post about it (links in the description).

  • This was great, thanks a lot for posting.

  • NICEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
