I've always been a fan of Mayer's blues (Trio and Continuum era John), but after hearing Shadow Days, I'm starting to come around to his whole country/folksy thing.  Queen of California and Whisky Whisky Whisky are my two favorite of his new songs, but I hope that when we see this song on the album, he plays it like this. There's so much energy and he proved he can still play a sick solo. It'd be a shame to see this song go acoustic

I really think John shines and stands out more when he does the John Mayer Trio stuff. With this new look he's got going on, and with the immense amount of talent and musicianship of Steve, Pino, and John, they could become, in the future, what legends like Eric Clapton, Eric Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, SRV, are to us today.

I always thought John Mayer was just another one of those pop artists, but after seeing him perform with Pino and Steve, the energy, style, and pure talent just blended so well, it blew me away! I really would like to see him come back and become a more blues-esque artist, in the vein of Clapton, SRV, etc. He'd be one of the only guitar legends of this current younger generation.

@mcjoz88 Mm yeah it'd be nice, but both Pino and Steve are busy with their own life. Pino's currently touring with D'Angelo while Steven has his own band with his wife.

@kbui97 Well I meant more along the lines of playing in that setting with just one drummer, and one bass player, but stick to blues or stuff similar to Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc. What I mean, is pretty much keep furthering his skills and musicianship to the point that he could be listed alongside other great guitarists I mentioned in the future.

Once legends like Clapton, Eric Johnson, Buddy Guy, BB King, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, etc pass on, there really is no one in this younger pop oriented generation to carry the torch, keep the guitar flame going...Another guy that could potentially burst open and become a legend is Gary Clark Jr. He's got a great style in his music as well.

@mcjoz88 He is a really great blues artist but his most distinct characteristic, musically, is that he truly is ever-changing, and his GREATEST characteristic, is that whatever he does, is brilliantly executed. I am so glad he changes it up all the time because without John Mayer making music so eclectically, I would have never properly experienced other types of music, like the blues. plus I'm sure those amazing guitar solos are being saved up for his live shows, so don't you worry about that;)

(On the real though I was at this show, he was solid, played some familiar songs a little different than normal so that was nice to see. He definitely held off on the playing on the ground/behind his back because he was opening for Keith; nothing could be more rude than outperforming what would be considered the Headliner. Even though they split the bill I'm pretty sure whichever artist sold more tix would be the one to perform last. There def were more KU fans.)

@MelensMusic thats not the one, the one for Jimi Hendrix is the Monteray Replica, the body is a bright red, and it is rose covered. Jimi used this monteray guitar, during the monteray pop festival. He then burned it on stage during wild thing, as a guitar sacrifice. The video is on YouTube.

Loving the new weapon he chooses to use recently. Sounds beautiful. Got a great drummer there in Aaron Sterling. Much more suited than Carlock, although Carlock is a beast... still no one's gonna fill JJ's shoes IMO but Sterling is a COMPLETE mix of Jordan And JJ...so he's definitely a good choice. He's got the right licks! Can't wait to hear Mayers new offering.

the one thing i will say is that if anyone has an opinion about how john has changed, or criticize him for a direction he is taking, he is so self-aware and cerebral about his public image that he has already thought of the thousands of ways his actions are interpreted by the public, including yours.
