Using American Sign Language and speaking English at the same time definitely makes an Odd Couple. All Deaf people have voice. To speak or not to speak? It's strictly a matter of personal preference and comfort.
Why is that an 'audist' question? Lots of deaf people can speak vocally and there are also lots of hard-of-hearing people who sign and use their spoken voice.
Isn't asking a deaf person if they vocalize the same as asking a hearing person if they sign? And I don't think any hearing people would get upset if you ask them if they sign...
The deaf community is very diverse and one cannot assume that an individual uses any particular language.
