How is this film regarded generally by the film community and critics? For years I said this was the greatest thing Hopper ever did,,,,and people thought I was out of my mind.....then.....it took on this cult personna of its own........I guess it just takes some people a while to 'get it "

@inkey2 Its generally reguarded as one of the best American films of the 80's, at least here in the states. Even at the time of its release it was very popular among critics and audiences. There were some who hated it (Ebert) but from what I gather it was definitely a big "buzz" film, kind of like The Crying Game a few years later. Lynch got nominated for an Oscar and along with Twin Peaks brought Lynch's style into the public consciousness.
