  • That splendid actor James Stewart receiving an Honorary Oscar from that splendid actor Cary Grant.

  • This video should be namec "Cinematic greats with thick luxurious white hair"

  • 3:47

To the guy who said "Yea!" you took the words right out of my mouth

  • Despise the fact that their both around 80 years of age, their still handsome as hell!

  • Grant and Stewart were great actors and great people. They kept their politics to themselves and did not tear others apart. I wish they were still with us.

  • you know i was born at the wrong time. i hate many stars to day( not all.. i love steve carell) but many stupid stars with know class i sit on my computer and watch these good old shows and stars. just wish my friend could appreceite it (im only 14) they all think im crazy

  • @TheDeanmartinfan1 Ah, don't be sad. Your lucky you live in the 21st century, you can enjoy all the greatness of the previous centruies plus this one!

  • 10 people didn't go to Washington and didn't have wonderful lives.

  • I love James Stewart, he was so handsome and loved his voice. Its weird seeing them at this age I bet they had a fantastic time with all the old hollywood stars, wish i had been around then to meet some of them. I loved how the women were very lady like and the men wore suits and were so manly looking, I love my black and white films so much better than todays.

  • @sarah1981100 Yeah... gender roles are nice, arn't they?

Sarcasm aside, I do much prefer movie ladies of the old days than today's plastic dolls.

  • bravo scorps666 - these two were not only fine gentlemen - they were talented! They had actual ability unlike so many of today's so-called stars.

  • You see James Stewart, you've really had a wonderful life.

  • Why was the montage cut? I would have loved to watch that, too. I love Jimmy and Cary so much! I'm so happy Cary got to present this to him ♥

  • 2 TRUE FILM STARS

  • They Don't make STARS Anymore!!! Cary Grant, and James Stewart, two of the Greatest!!

  • Man did these guys look different older...

  • The best actor i have ever seen (honestly idon't meant say the Greatest) or about his looking and all the rest bullshit, but he was the best actor in the world nearly perfection

  • James Stewart is the best ever (i not meant to say the Greatest) but he is the best actor in the world nearly perfection

  • Must be a dream

  • THIS IS MAGIC!!!

  • 2 of the Greats

  • hes my favorite actor, i'm 23 <3

  • @applemaca11

Grant was an Eglishman from Bristol ;)

  • Geez. I love Jimmy Stewart so much it hurts.

  • Do me a favor America.......gather your children and make them watch this clip. Tell your children that these two gentlemen, Cary Grant and James Stewart, were real movie stars. These were two giants of the movie industry. These gentlemen were not reality "stars", were not "celebrities", they were not Kardashian's or Hilton's who are famous for absolutely nothing. Tell your children that these were two of of greatest Hollywood stars in all of the entertainment industry.

  • @scorps666 Well said, now can you and your fellow Americans please do yourselves a favor and go review the English grammar to see when an apostrope is properly used. Even professional writers and editors have become illiterates now. One uses an apostrophe for the possessive, NOT the plural form. The plural of Hilton is Hiltons (without apostrophe), the term Hilton's (with apostrophe) implies belonging to/regarding/concerning Hilton. Pass it on to your compatriots and schoolteachers.

  • @philipc67ok then..u mean it's better to watch Hilton and use correct grammar.

    Good things learned.

  • @philipc67ok then..u mean it's better to watch Hilton and use correct grammar.

    Good things learned.

  • @scorps666 right on

  • @Oscars 1:12 What happened there? There's a cut in the film. Was there a clipshow that couldn't be shown due to copyrights?

  • @ragemanchoo82

Yeah, unfortunately, none of the clip shows from the awards can be shown due to copyright law. Bummer.

  • Mr Potter would not stand for this

  • Two great actors. Postively brilliant. I enjoy All of your films!

  • i love both of these guys :)

  • epic!

  • What would todays equivalent be? Ben Affleck presenting Nicholas Cage? Makes me want to cry.

  • @100Soulpower actually, Kirk Douglas and Sidney Poitier are both still alive. Both amazing actors that sadly aren't working anymore. But for current actors...Tom Hanks is a far better choice than Ben Affleck in my opinion.

  • @biganimefan84 I agree, I think I've seen footage of Sidney Poitier receiving an honorary Oscar. I didn't genuinely think that Affleck would be honoured like this, just wish there were more actors like Stewart and Grant around today, not just for their talent, but their character and attitude.

  • @100Soulpower No, Nicolas Cage is far better than Ben Affleck.

  • @100Soulpower Nah, a little less painful than that...more like George Clooney presenting to Tom Hanks.

  • cary grant > clark gable

    james stewart > clark gable

    james stewart = cary grant.

  • I could listen to Cary Grant talk all day.

  • Jimmy Stewart....a true classic! Happy 113th birthday, Jimmy! :)

  • @WriteOn316 I belive Mr Stewart would be now 103.... RIP to a TRUE American hero...and one of mine

  • gross

  • i admire James Stewart , my favorite actor

  • I love james stewart so einen wird es nie mehr geben!

  • Two acting legends on stage. And Stewart honoring another cinematic legend - director Frank Capra. It doesn't get any better than this!

  • Some of the finest American actors ever.

  • @truro007 Cary was British, not American.

  • A reminder of a time when stars had personality! You could do an impression of either Cary of Jimmy and people would know who you were doing.

  • You don't get any higher then that! :)

  • It's not only cool to see the duo from "Philadelphia Story" reunited, but also cool to see Alfred Hitchcock's two best, and most recurrent, leading men on the same stage at the same time.

  • respect humility sens of perspective passion modesty elegance versatility warmth learnedness gratitude kindness talent love eloquence humour self deprecation loyalty ..............you gave us a wonderful mr Stewart......thank you

  • james stewart, things I would do to him, I would go to jail for.lol. He was sex on legs.

  • cary died a year later :(

  • I was half-expecting his to say "Aw, Shucks".

On a more serious note, will we have two more iconic actors like Cary Grant or James Stewart again? Any more versatile Hollywood actors who will star in well made films?

  • Wow, Cary Grant presenting James Stewart, that's what i call stardom

  • @PhillyDippy5 and you get the idea that they were really friends off screen. Don't know for sure if they were, but it seems like it from this.

  • Just magnificant! 'nuff said.

  • you will never guess that Cary is 81 here!

  • Sad to think that now the honorary award isn't even part of the main show, and this would be trimmed in favour of younger, sexier stars staring confusedly at an autocue.

  • what a lucky people for being there that night.. getting to see two legendary Hollywood actors on same stage.. it's like you saw Leonardo Da Vinci and Michaelangelo at the same time for painters..

  • Brigadier-General James Stewart, USAF.

  • Wow...legends

  • True Class

  • James Stewart, one of the greatest men the world has ever known! I wish I could have met him! I adore him so much!

  • oh god, here come the tears

  • splendid moment

  • Never agreed with his politics, but he was my favourite actor, fought in WW2, and shared my birthday (20 May)! Cary Grant's citation wasn't entirely accurate. In films by Anthony Mann and Alfred Hitchcock, Stewart played some unpleasant characters, and George Bailey (It's A Wonderful Life) also had a dark side. It eeally annoys me that youngsters know John Wayne but not James Stewart, and Wayne was a one note actor.

  • @cbak12sg I love Jimmy Stewart's work as much as anyone but John Wayne was not a one note actor.

The Quiet Man, The Searchers, Red River, True Grit all showed what a marvelous actor he was. He was natural.

He did not have to learn it or go through some idiotic method acting routine to be great.

  • James Stewart was a great actor

  • @griffin324 you missing one for harvey so you mean four. LONG LIVE JAMES MAITLAND STEWART. one of the greatest men to every walk the face of this earth

  • Philadelphia Story is one of the best classic films ever. The scene that Grant refers to is my favorite scene. You can see Cary trying hard not to crack up because Jimmy Stewart is so hilarious.

  • Cary Grant is just awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • I'm confused, why are there 10 dislikes on this? How could you not like Jimmy Stewart?

  • Cary Grant + James Stewart = PURE AWESOMENESS!

  • James Stewart, I will love you until the day I die! I'm 27, born in the way wrong era and hopelessly in love with this man!

  • @ascarbo27 oh my gosh! I feel the same way! I just started watching some of his movies and I fell hard for him, lol. I'm 29 and only wish that I could have grown up watching this wonderful and honorable man. There will never be another like him and I only wish there was more of his kind out there. I absolutely love who he was as an actor and as a person.

  • Instead of being so morose and sad about how we shall never see great men like these again on stage, we should be happy that they lived and they maybe had the chance to inspire actors of the younger generations to go on and make beautiful art work like them.

  • How can Mr. Grant look better in his eighties than I do in my fifties!

  • JAMES STEWART HAS THE BEST VOICE EVER.

  • Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant are the greatest legends ever. NO ONE will ever replace Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant.

  • Stewart did not deserve an Oscar for Philadelphia Story, he deserved three for it's a wonderful life, mr. smith goes to washington, and vertigo.

  • @griffin324 I agree. I love cinema esp classic, but hate "The Philadelphia Story"

  • both in tuxedos,both with glasses,both white haired,both.....legends!

  • both in tuxedos,both with glasses,both white haired,both.....legends

  • Two legends.

  • His voice is the same as it was when he was younger

  • This is what Hollywood's good name is built on.

  • i love jimme <3 :)

  • Legend

  • I messes with Jimmy Stewart. I never even seen footage of him when he was older. I'll always remember his magnificent performances in many of Hitchcock's amazing movies. He define actor.

  • How wonderful this is. I loved them in The Philadelphia Story. I love seeing them together

  • There will never be another actor like Jimmy

  • The History of Hollywood on stage.

  • its a wonderful life.......wat a guy..

  • Jimmy Stewart was a class act all the way....There is no one who will ever be able to replace him.

  • Actors like these is why I continue to watch classic cinema versus the vulgar, violent or romantic silliness of movies today. Not to mention the lack of true acting talent of the many "mega stars of today". Yes, Hollywood did have royalty and these were the truest of STARS.

  • Both of them were listed as the #2 and #3 greatest male stars of all time. It can go either way though

  • These guys were real actors and had respect the thier buisness

  • Is that Angela Landsbury holding an Oscar at 01:50? If so I didn't know that she had won one.

  • @rosieriv Peggy Ashcroft won the Oscar® for her performance in "A Passage to India" at the 57th Academy Awards® in 1985 it was presented by Ryan O'Neal and accepted by Angela Lansbury. That is the Oscar Angela Lansbury is holding.

  • I love them both

  • What class. Both of them.

  • Hollywood will never again have 2 legends like Grant and Stweart up on a stage together like in this clip.

  • 2:03-2:19 Great stuff! Jimmy and his famous stammer and Cary's reaction! :)

  • I like the fact they all stood and clapped, that says it all.

  • Wylie Burp

  • It's a wonderful life, What a movie. Thanks James wherever you are.

  • Wow. Jimmy Stewart looks like he was a pretty tall guy, lol.

  • @murdock283 You noticed that only now when he was in his 70s??... Just watch some of his movies, he was a real tall guy, I'd say about 6'3 or so

  • There's a man I'd like to have met ...

  • a year before Grant's death :/

yet Grant intriguingly looks younger than most of the actors around his age...

  • 2人ともお爺ちゃんになってしまったね。

    「フィラデルフィア物語」と比較してしまった。

  • The world needs more Cary Grants and Jimmy Stewarts.

  • Twins?

  • @BalletWatcher 2 old men

  • capra, ford, hitchcock he got to work with all the masters of his time. shows what a great actor he was

  • What a kind and gentle soul this man had.

  • @arlichar11 A horrible actor? Ok, maybe he wasn't the best in the business, but horrible?

  • @arlichar11

Huh? This 'method acting' that you refer to did not come into being in Hollywood until the 50's. Cary Grant played Cary Grant in every one of his movies. He didn't disappear into anything!

  • @arlichar11 You disagree?...we all disagree with you.

  • @arlichar11 Whilst people are entitled to their own opinions and all that, in this instance you are just quite simply wrong! Jimmy Stewart was a fabulous actor! I love Cary Grant too and have 43 of his movies but he wasnt in the same acting class as Stewart....you have things the wrong way round. Grabt, wonderful and all as he is, played Grant his entire life.

  • Stewart > Grant

  • Such an great actor..

    <3

  • does anyone know many 81 year olds who look this good?

  • He remebers me Mr.Burns ...

  • Not only was he a wonderful actor, a kind, decent, and thoughtful person, but few remember he rose to the rank of brigadier general in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, having volunteered as a pilot during World War II and continuing his service after the war ended. He flew on many dangerous bombing mission in service to his country, putting country first before his career and comfortable life. He is truly to be admired.

  • The thing I love about Jimmy, not only is he a great actor and extremely famous, but also how much people respect him and genuinely love him. I would trade nearly anything to hear him speak in person. But 16 years old is a bit too young to have appreciated him while he was alive. He's a modest, kind, amazing American and human being.

  • jimmy stewart im a 35 year old kid and i can safely say there is not a film you have done that i dont like....clarence, take the boy home

  • getting older sucks. love yah Jimmy and Cary

  • I love how he worked in 'a wonderful life' at the end, I suppose it's definitely not a coincidence?

    What a great man.

    What great mEn, actually. Brilliant.

  • Sadly both men are gone. :(

  • What year was this, does anyone know?

  • @KLUNKET 1984

  • my favorite film he had done is rear window

  • There will never, EVER be another Jimmy Stewart.

  • Gentlemen and gentlewomen just seem rare anymore. They've all been washed away by the tides of reality TV. "Class" is extinct...just watch one episode of "Real Housewives..."

  • those last words make me cry. you're missed mr jimmy

  • Guys like these two men should life forever.

But then they would be Gods and that cannot be.

Fortunately they live forever in films that makes them movie legends.

    Thank God for that.

  • Such a truly humble yet incredibly dignified actor which in this speech shows so many human qualities directly and indirectly. God Bless Jimmy whereever you are...

  • watch this man in read window

    and now here

    it really makes me cry

  • @dublaudor Both were Alfred Hitchcock movies!

  • NO, Thank You Mr. Steward for giving us so much! Both in film and service to your country.

  • There is only one word for the two of them.....Gentlemen

  • A brilliant actor and truely wonderful man, his performance in Vertigo never fails to move me, what a beautiful speech

  • Happy birthday James Stewart !

  • Great old actor. Loved him !

  • The man was the very definition of an actor. How we love him.

  • "you've given me a wonderful life...." brought me to tears.

  • "you've given me a wonderful life...." brought me to tears.

  • You know .. What amazes me is the class these actors had on and off the screen. Todays actors make a mockery and an abomination of the hollywood of yesterday. They are for the most part a disgarce to the silver screen with their off color behavior and terrible screen side manners.what a shame this world has become.

  • C.K. DEXTER HAVEN!!!!!

  • I love that he thanked Frank Capra!!! It's a Wonderful Life, every Christmas!!!!

  • Someone explain to me why the old color is so much more beautiful than the color they use today. I'm thinking of the old techniclor process(3 strip). To me it went hand in hand with the magical illusions created on screen by the likes of Hitchcock, Minnelli, Cukor etc. Why did that color film dissappear all of the sudden. I'd really like a response from someone in the know. I would so appreciate this!

  • @damone77

3-strip Technicolor was phased out when Eastmancolor was introduced, circa 1953. Eastmancolor required only one camera and strip of film, vs. the 3 required for Technicolor. However, for some years many films shot in Eastman had dye-transfer Technicolor release prints made. The dye-transfer process exaggerated the color and contrast, and is what many people think of fondly when remembering Technicolor.

  • The end of his speech made me smile :)

Jimmy Stewart will forever be one of the greatest actors

  • True legends, when one of the reasons to go and see a movie was to see these guys. Brilliant! Carey Grant and Jimmy Stewart, great!

  • in his youth and nothing is more respectful and just the way it should be!

  • I'm flabergasted that anyone would make any sort of unkind remarks about this man. (Cary Grant) Both he and James Stewart were such unique people and actors and we won't see their like again. I admired both of them so very much. Some of the remarks on YouTube in general are so uncalled for. Why can't we all go by the old adage of "if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

  • @dancingbutrfli Not a lot of classy people, anymore. The internet provides a place for fools and cowards to spew their garbage without the threat of genuine repercussions. I agree with you; it gets me mad, too. But class and dignity are two qualities that are never out of style, and always appreciated.

Jimmy Stewart was a giant. He deserves all the praise and admiration he gets, for now and always. 'Nuff said.

  • @dancingbutrfli because some people are pigs, and always will be =/

  • 2 legends
