@Erectoralporicy what why? They are so nice to swim with because they twine around you in curiosity. Few people ever get killed by them because they are so docile in comparison to their venom strength.
The bad news is that the venom of these snakes is about four to five times deadlier than a cobra's. The good news is that the snakes are very docile - I've heard they'll even allow humans to handle them, although I highly recommend against that. In any case, I've never heard of a human being bitten by one.
i agree babe4fish13, but there are some good dive story sites on the net too. Try the myscubastory site. They have real life dive stories and dive accident videos. Put myscubastory into google, and its the first result.
That is what is commonly known to MOST people, is a 'ADVAR KINGS SWIM' snake... no doubt in my mind!
It gains its name because if 99% of the worlds population found it swimming around, they'd follow me.... 'ad varking swim' away as fast as my arse would allow!! lmfao
Whats with youtubers and mixing up were and where, they're there and their, hole and whole, etc. I barely ever see that outside of Youtube. (From Canada)
are u sure this is poisonous cuz just last week i caught it bare hands at a shallow beach front in the eastern coast of saudi arabia ( Al uqair beach- Al Ahsa province)...... it was amazing... it was barely 25 cm long....
i do think that this snake is called a Krait.... the males have a beautiful light blue color on them, the females are black and white.... very pretty snakes....
the black and white sea snake is all over the pacific...they like to hide in the shallows around rocks or sometimes just laying in the sand.. they are deadly poisonous but their mouth is too small to bite unless u put your little finger in its mouth... I have a phobia about snakes so would scream and run out of the water when I was kid and saw one!! LOL
That's not true, at least about their mouths being too small. People have been bitten by these snakes and have died from them. Besides if the mouth is too small how do they bite their prey which is undeniably much larger than a persons pinky finger?
oh? are you from the Pacific? I am from Fiji and all the years I grew up there, children would play with them in the water and no one got bitten...I don't think we would have allowed to do that if it was known that kids could die. More people die from standing on stonefish barefoot, crown of thorns and stingrays, and also picking up poisonous cone shells the wrong side where the tongue can sting). Maybe these snakes are different in other waters ie bigger mouths? Not in Fiji anyway
I'm sorry that was arrogant of me. But I don't understand how an animal that's supposed to kill with venom managed to kill animals that tend to be bigger around than a pinky finger if it couldn't open it's mouth up large enough.
thats ok, there is a great article on this Banded/Yellow-Lipped/Colubrine Sea Krait , which the locals (me) called it a "Done-duck-a-la-thee" phonetically spelled. I will send it to you by mail. However, they do mention the jaws are so small and no thicker than a mans thumb at full maturity, and really are harmless, they just go after other little eels. it is true what you said, they are highly poisonous, but I have never heard of anyone getting bitten and dying in Fiji and we see them alot.
the black & white snake in Fiji is much smaller than the ones in other waters, they do have a smaller mouth and body. I have never seen one this size in our Fijian reefs, but we have really big Moray eels & octopus
someone commented to change the title but why? as it shows either a coral snake or krait attacking a moray eel-so why does the title need changing-also neither sea snakes or kraits are dangerous-they have very potent venom yes-but their fangs and mouth gape is so small they can hardly ever bite a human and they are not aggressive either -so very rare for human to ever be bitten or hurt by one-which is common knowledge-they are harmless virtually-i wonder if the moray eel died
Its true, people only 'think' they are being attacked when they come up to them, thus giving them the title 'deadly', but all that is because they have poor eye sight and think that anything that is moving above is a potential mate.
i've recently been to the maldives and while we were diving one of these swam right past me and i thought nothing of it because i though it was a moray eel but i was soon told by the instructor that it was a deadly water snake
i had a dream where it was a red snake with black bands, in Jamaica. it attacked me and i died a slow and painful death. lol sorry for being so random!

@sarahsyds All sea snakes are venomous. They have to be. They can't constrict their prey underwater.

tehubernessofuber 1 year ago
@jessigrady22 No, sorry. Kraits are land snakes. This is a banded sea snake, it cannot even crawl on land.
Shanbo26 3 months ago
@jessigrady22 My apologies..this could indeed be a SEA krait, named because of it's similarity to the land snake of the same name.
