I have a centric location and space, the problem the owner doesnt want me to put a sign. I have to promote by looking for new customers by internet or by mouth.
wow, thanks for the info. Im gonna open my own shop when I get older. My dad has 3 businesses and knows how to run them, so hes also gonna help me out. :-)
how much money should you have to start a hobby shop, obviously the more capitol you have to spend of products the higher chance of succeeding but im not sure how much it takes to comfortably start a business in hobbie shops.
I guess I shouldnt so honest when i say something but out of 515 people viewing comments of what you say yeah 5 or 6 are just jealous that I collect my cards and dont sell them???? So for the six pepole that didnt like my comment then the only thing I have to say is there is something called an octogon I will gladly show it to you. One by one
Hi,Chris if you dont mind me asking about how much money did it take you to get started,to get the whole thing started because there is no one in burlington nc at all that sells cards . There is a guy in greensboro but thats about 45 mins away and this is a really high market in my mind .Elon coll is right around the corner and i know a few of these kids that collect.THANKS FOR ALL YOU DO LOVE THE VIDS bsteele3276
when you say allicated? do you mean you have to buy that one or two cases off them? is it per case per product ? or just 1 case of anything in a year?
awesome info.. I have been wanting to do this since i was a little kid.. There is only 1 or 2 card shops in the whole new orleans region.. I am doing card shows as a vendor right now and hope to one day to either have my own store or have my own card show...
Chris in your opnion should someone decide right off the bat which 'store' they want to be? By that I mean should they have in their mind if they are going to have a store like yours a case or two of singles and mostly hobby boxes or should be the 'wal-mart' hobby shop w/player statues, bats, hats, window clings,towels...etc? As always thanks for all you do for us.
I would start off selling stuff you like to sell. If you notice that people are asking if you have this and you dont, then you may want to stock that as well. Once you get going you can constantly add to your inventory.
1. In terms of start up expenses, how much is reasonable in terms of enough to open your doors and actually have product to move? I know that's kind of a vague question and hard to answer, but it would be really cool to have an idea.
2. Are there any small business loans that could help in this type of endeavor or are those reserved for more "formal" type business?
I have one question for you though regarding advertising on here and your website.
What percentage of your sales do you think come from your website and if congress passes a bill in which they require sales tax on internet purchases (out of state) do you think it will lower your sales much?
Obviously dont answer if you aren't feel comfortable releasing this info. Just curious considering it is damn near free advertising minus the man hours and the start up cost of your website.
great faq vid. didnt expect to hear my name at the end, lmao. i do everything i can to support my local shop. with ebay prices the way they are, many card shops, without support from collectors, would not survive. i have been trying to convince my shop owner to come on youtube and try and move his procuct here, as you do chris, but I think he is camera shy. He'd much rather just have me keep getting rid of it for him.
I shouldnt be sentimental with my collection which is completey intact I havent sold anything and its gotta be worth 20 thousand to 25 thousand dollars book value 12 to 15 ebay value
1) Just like how xbox live killed the arcade.. ebay killed most of tampa's hobby stores, so be careful if your going be a store dealing with mostly singles.
2) Don't be sentimental when dealing with cards, your in it to make a profit. Thats all I have to contribute. =)

The money depends on what you want to stock. If you want tons of boxes and stuff, then it is a lot more. Hard to answer that.

You are allocated like 1 case of each product. You dont have to buy if you dont want to.

That would depend entirely on what you want to stock and sell. No answer would be set.
You have to have a pretty good business plan and great credit in order to get a business loan.

not sure if this is a personal question, but how much of a mark up is dist/mfr price from retail?
yankstixman 2 years ago
That varies and prices go up and down based on the secondary market. There isnt any specific %.

Lately a great % has come from my YouTube supporters. In store has slowed considerably due to a slowing economy.
An out of state sales tax would effect everyone online.

If you get $10,000 dollars worth of manufactured product how much revenue can you make off of that?????
How long do you have to wait before you are a proven store after you send the pictures?
Can you have the same name of a hobby card store that is not in your state??
Why do hobby stores sell product 60% percent above ebay prices??
Cant we all buy and sell merchandise for the same price ever again??? death by ebay!!
hulkamaniawildonu 2 years ago
Q1. Cant answer.
Q2. As soon as you get store set up and all the bills and stuff.
Q3. They just run the City/State for small business. If a store has a worldwide copyright, then you cant use.
Q4. Ebay is an unexplainable market.
Q5. What?
