While Lambert-l his dramatic appeal on and off stage and the whole thing is already well-known to them, as American Idol is shown on Starworld every year- 'the home of idol'! That's why the interviewer referenced it towards Bill- whom he has never met before, because not many non-english European bands make it to Asia. He probably didn't know that TH was already famous(in US & Europe) before Lambert was even on Idol.
