Having also seen photos of Fleming in her current Violetta at the ROH, one can only marvel at Netrebko's resilience, endurance and commitment to bel canto opera.

this is oky, but yes her voice does sound heavy, but until someone proves to me otherwise the best version of this song is done by Kathleen Battle and Samuel Ramey. Battle was also known as a "pretty face" but her mozart was always sublime
@Bahia82 I agree with A7madeus..i love the bartoli/terfel duet, however Ramey and Battle sound heavenly! (I never listened, I should now!) I do think Anna has a heavy voice for Mozart, she's better for bel canto/ russian repertoire.
I know where the accent in "mano" goes because italian is my mother tongue.
Then, if you look at the notes and try to sing it ON the orchestra, you would see the accents falls in their place on "lA'" "darEm" and "mAno" naturally.
but sounding pretty is her job, is it not? I prefer a singer that sounds pretty and does not act so much, than one who's only acting and sounds horrible.
This is lovely singing from both and definitely in the right style for Mozart. My only criticism is that it lacks humour. The Count should get a laugh as he follows her offstage.
Netrebko sounds kind of "heavy" in this role, doesn't she? I don't like her singing this opera.... Poor performance. As well as this man. What is he? Not a bass-baritone, not a bass, not a baritone, so what else? A tenor shouldn't sing Don Giovanni.... because it's not written for such a height.
I didn't say he was a tenor. I just said, that I cannot decide on him being a bass, a bass-baritone or a baritone because his voice is somehow... sometimes very high and sometimes very low. I cannot decide what he is! Use your eyes to read what I wrote.
There are also many great operas in written English. Most are very 20th century, atonal and not exactly what you may be looking for, but they are just as beautiful and fun to perform. I'm currently in the Crucible, we did Dido and Aeneas last semester, and there are many others. Google can likely help you find more.
is a very beautiful song i play it on trumpet which is incredibly hard considering it was written for strings and not so much for trumpet and articulation gets tough
Too bad most people don't give the lower voices a chance. Most everyone goes crazy for Tenors. But listen to how beautiful this area is. To me it sounds just as good or even better than any Tenor aria.
Cecilia and Bryn you mean -- there is a pure joy, not only in their singing but in acting too. Real "Don Giovanni" the way Lorenzo Da Ponte and Mozart I think meant it to be. As far as Netrebko -- a sensation only for her looks (which are gone, by the way), I am out of this discussion, it's gotten ridiculous.
Well, yes Cecilia and Bryn for this particular aria. I just named Kiri and Bryn, since both of them are known for their Mozart, Kiri especially. They know how to be light and elegant, appropriate for Mozart.
I don't like Netrebko, too. Many people adore her, but her performances sound always quite poor to me (except her being Susanna in Le Nozze - I like her there, in some parts). As you said, looks nice, good for marketing, but nothing more..... at least that's what she is to me.... (Sorry for that).
Not only too dark but sharp too especially Netrebko. What irritates me most is that she doesn't cover her notes with breath support, so it's throaty. Even for Enrico Caruso, on a poor recording sound, you can still perfectly hear Caruso's breath support covering the notes.
Netrebko's turn as Juliette in the Metropolitan Opera's live simulcast of "Roméo et Juliette" was seen on the big screen by nearly 100,000 viewers at 600 theaters worldwide, according to the Met. The broadcast took in $1.6 million in North America alone more than some major motion pictures that day, including "American Gangster," starring Denzel Washington.

@JaneEyreFan19 No, her job is not sounding pretty. Her job is making music. In my opinion, there is no honest emotion involved in her music.

This is lovely singing from both and definitely in the right style for Mozart. My only criticism is that it lacks humour. The Count should get a laugh as he follows her offstage.

A very interesting, non-orthodox interpretation: it's not clear who is seducer and who is seduced ;-)

Peter Mattei as Don Giovanni is the best!

ElisabettaVS 2 years ago
To Elisabeta VS, this is not a tenor. you must be joking, use your ears!!!!
AnastasioFranco 2 years ago
I didn't say he was a tenor. I just said, that I cannot decide on him being a bass, a bass-baritone or a baritone because his voice is somehow... sometimes very high and sometimes very low. I cannot decide what he is! Use your eyes to read what I wrote.
ElisabettaVS 2 years ago
He is a baritone and it is not my fault your English sucks.

Thank you. If you only can argue while being rude, I am not interested in further conversation.

are there any operas in english?
aguywitha 2 years ago
Many of the great operas have been translated to English and sometimes they play them in English. ^^
ElisabettaVS 2 years ago
There are also many great operas in written English. Most are very 20th century, atonal and not exactly what you may be looking for, but they are just as beautiful and fun to perform. I'm currently in the Crucible, we did Dido and Aeneas last semester, and there are many others. Google can likely help you find more.

is a very beautiful song i play it on trumpet which is incredibly hard considering it was written for strings and not so much for trumpet and articulation gets tough

is she cheating masetto? poor he, anyways.

This guy is cheating.. He is Tenor or a baritone without balls.

Is this part writting for a bass?
boxingin 2 years ago
yes, Mozart wrote Don Giovanni role for basses
spyridon77 2 years ago
It was written for a lyric baritone actually.

this doesnt move me, its very heavy
ivyherstory 2 years ago
It sounds extremely romantic to me.
boxingin 2 years ago
This is heavy for mozart. I was expecting a little more whimsical if not lighter.
ivyherstory 2 years ago
Too bad most people don't give the lower voices a chance. Most everyone goes crazy for Tenors. But listen to how beautiful this area is. To me it sounds just as good or even better than any Tenor aria.
boxingin 2 years ago
Decent, but cannot touch Terfel & Bartoli. Is it just me, or are these two preposterously good looking? Little jealous, I have to say...

It's awful. He wails like a dog in heat and she is flat. This duet is dead. I am going to clean my ears.

And so what if she is flat She sings like an angel if youre girl or boy they sings better than you and that hurts you, looser
manuelspcool 2 years ago
"So what if she is flat... she sings like an angel?" Oh, that makes a lot of sense! LOL. You just like how she looks.
lovemypiano111 2 years ago
Their voices are way to dark and heavy for mozart. They really need a dose of listening to Kiri and Bryn and QUICK!
saxamaphoneguy1 2 years ago
Cecilia and Bryn you mean -- there is a pure joy, not only in their singing but in acting too. Real "Don Giovanni" the way Lorenzo Da Ponte and Mozart I think meant it to be. As far as Netrebko -- a sensation only for her looks (which are gone, by the way), I am out of this discussion, it's gotten ridiculous.
lovemypiano111 2 years ago
Well, yes Cecilia and Bryn for this particular aria. I just named Kiri and Bryn, since both of them are known for their Mozart, Kiri especially. They know how to be light and elegant, appropriate for Mozart.
saxamaphoneguy1 2 years ago
I don't like Netrebko, too. Many people adore her, but her performances sound always quite poor to me (except her being Susanna in Le Nozze - I like her there, in some parts). As you said, looks nice, good for marketing, but nothing more..... at least that's what she is to me.... (Sorry for that).
ElisabettaVS 2 years ago
Not only too dark but sharp too especially Netrebko. What irritates me most is that she doesn't cover her notes with breath support, so it's throaty. Even for Enrico Caruso, on a poor recording sound, you can still perfectly hear Caruso's breath support covering the notes.
hermioney2k 2 years ago
way too slow.
