  • I got MDK2 with a computer in 2001, and have never played it. I really should

  • An excellent review for an excellent game. One thing I found when I played the game was that it was actually easier to play using a joystick rather than a mouse.

  • wowowowowowo been lookin for this game forever, thought I would forget about this game until I saw it just now !!

  • the screaming health box freaked me out so much as a kid

  • The SEGA Dreamcast version is damn good too. :D

  • @Chaniyth there's only MDK2 on Dreamcast

  • @sm4sh3d

Touché good sir, you are correct.

  • I played the demo back in 1997 on my Pentium 90Mhz 8Mb ram Win95.... now I just bought it on GoG, 14 years later, and it's still damn good. Nice review dude

  • where my friend can i get my hands on your theme music...??? :D

  • the reason for the lack in variation of games these days is 1>money 2>the law 3>the players,

but most important is number 2, since somat like 2006 its much tighter and closely monitered than it used to be during the experimental period of the 80s and 90s.

  • @kawrght I don't think the Law has anything to do with it, the Game industry really regulates itself. You can make what ever you want, but be careful about getting that dreaded AO rating by the ESRB. The most important is probably money. Since the gaming industry is run like a business now, the bigger publishers wont touch something that is not likely to make money, which is why you see lots of indie games being self published.

  • The best way to play this game is from GOG.COM :)

  • I loved this game on the PS1, it's still so unique. The sniper rifle had infinite zoom!!!!

  • Uhh yeah, remember playing the demo when i was a kid, it was groovy!

  • I have to say this game is awesome, so is the second one.

  • I remember playing this as a kid over and over :D i played it with my p233 mmx, it's damn fine. Some years later I saw Messiah in a store, I saw the Shiny logo and I bought it ASAP :D (And I also bought Sacrifice when I saw the trailer in Messiah)

  • 3:45 is that a pencil in his...or hers.. or idk whats mouth??

  • holy crap theres a second one

  • first 3:20 a dalek (doctor who)

    than 5:37 freaking mew (pokemon)

talk about a blast from the past.

  • I love Shiny! ! ! They rule! ! !

  • MDK :3 i still have the original disc :D

  • I played MDK 2 on my dreamcast when I was really really little.

I liked it a lot then we got rid of our dreamcast (I don't remember how or why)

I think we still have mdk 2 but no I'm not selling it I just think it's awesome.

  • Hmm, by only playing MDK 2, i presumed the first one had the option of playing Max and Dr Hawkings as well, witch i think makes the game alot more diverse.. have you ever played MDK2?

  • @Foka1010 I have and loved it up until having to play as the Doc. That just ruined the game for me. The puzzles aren't all that great, the gameplay and controls in those sections are slow and clunky, and honestly I just felt it drug on horribly. And even then some of the sections where you're platforming as Kurt get annoying due to some of the awkward design. It just wasn't as simple and awesome as the first to me.

  • @phreakindee i must admit, the first time i played MDK2 i left the game after playing doc the first.. I picked it up after a while, and finished it.. it gets better towards the end. the Middle is very weird and booring. Il pick up numero uno, and compare..

  • @phreakindee I actually thought MDK2 was a huge improvement, but MDK has a great charm to it.

  • @Foka1010 the first one you cant play as the doctor or max. But you can call max in a air strike thingy.

  • For a game named MURDER DEATH KILL, it was actually quite family friendly and light hearted, but fun to play :)

  • This is not just a game it's ART!

Probably my all time favorite game ever.

  • @CatsBunniesDucksMice I completely agree. This is more than just a game! Easily of my favorites, period.

  • ur right, FPS's need weirdness! and colour! and game developers need balls to not bitch out and make another CoD rip off

  • One of my favourite (PC) games of all time!

  • What a game. What a soundtrack. What atmosphere.

  • This came pack-in with the first gen iMacs where I first played it. Grate game!

  • Thanks for the GOG tip! Awesome site ^_^

  • This game was indeed interesting for it's time. never finished ( because of the mindless gameplay ) it but it had some amazing features if I look back now. The parachute and the character design where some of the things I really liked at this game

Thanks again for an wonderful review phreakindee. :]

  • i really liked this game.

  • Thanks so much for reviewing MDK. It's a game I have long been curious about thanks to its great magazine reviews and intriguing advertisements back in the day. I feel like your video really summed it up. I also appreciate how regularly you are adding new videos. Your hardware reviews are great because you condense a lot of easy to understand information into one entertaining video that would have been hours of research for me.

  • @mstrsmth

Thanks, I'm glad these are appreciated. That was one of my biggest goals starting out: to make relatively concise, informative, yet entertaining reviews that have the needed content in a digestible amount of time. The hardware reviews especially, I really like doing them, but they can take months of hands-on!

Hence, "Lazy" reviews. I have a system of making these and as long as it keeps working I'll keep making them weekly. Thanks again for the comments, here and otherwise!

  • Great review dude.

  • I remember seeing the CD case laying around some years ago, thought "hmm some old game likely won't run". Not sure if I still have it.

  • @S1337ghost

    Ah I remember again,

I gave it away to some children, on a local trick or treat variant

  • I have a copy of this game on CD and not long ago I played it through. I recommend it to everyone who plays games - the game looks awesome, some levels look like they're really from outta space, it is fun, has a good gameplay, it's never boring, unique bosses and level designs, some fun platform elements, some extreme shoot-outs. Overall it is awesome.

BTW do you know the racing game POD (planet of death)? You should give it a try. It's not an "oldschool" game but I think you might like it.

  • @Schmidt54 Hehe, do I know POD... yes, you could say that. It is one of my top 5 games hands-down. The atmosphere and locations for that game are incredible and I've loved it since launch.

I run one of the last fansites for the game, Pod Phreak, and own 20 or so different versions of the game from around the world. I always have an installed copy of the game accessible. It is superb and you can expect to see a review of it and its expansions at some point!

  • @phreakindee oh yeah, that's a funny coincidence. I'll check out your site later. It's definetly a great game, too bad that it does not run on my Vista PC. ;-( it was my first game, I got it with my first own computer way back then, and I loved the game since. I can't wait to see a review on that game, and add-ons (which I did not have and do not have :( )

  • A classic game, great review - good job, mr. Phreakindee!

  • MDK. Haven't thought of that game in a good long while. Now that was a great game.

  • Great review of a great game :D

  • I've accepted your video response, but YT's taking its sweet time processing it. Hopefully they haven't screwed it up.

  • It's so odd that this was your newest video...I've been thinking about popping this game in all week!

  • @BrakODatWak its taken you 7 days to think about playing a game? :S

  • @PilGrimmm It's more that I've been working all week and would also have to dig up the game from my old DOS games box, which isn't really in the cards as of late, but this week looks to be free enough that I'll get on it!

  • Best shooter i've ever played! PC version with DirectX support rules.

  • Excellent review!

  • MURDER DEATH KILL!

    Awesome review man.

  • yeh this game was awesome and the graphics just blew me away in those days

  • MDKMDKMDKMDK.

MDK2 is my second favorite game of all time; the first being Earthworm Jim.

  • I used to play this for Dreamcast! So good

  • Dude MDK is the shit!

I remember playing it way back in the day on my PC and man was it fun. I played through it like 7 times and it still never got boring.

    Great Review Phreak!

  • 5 stars great review
