Wishing that this song had hit the radio back in the day, it is so cool! But, only "Bust A Move" hit the radio in Nashville, TN, and a brotha didn't have cable then. Oh well:(
@jarbon5 I had to have listened to this taper 100 of times! Still know all the lyrics... What happened to music like this? Its almost like hip hop got jacked, or rap...?
@marshall2411 Music fans are the reason why music has gone to hell these days! The fans of HipHop love hearing the shit that's out there now, so that's what the labels will keep giving them. And, HipHop never got jacked, it is a servant to the consumer, and this is what the consumer wants these days. So, until HipHop listeners start demanding better, this is what they're stuck with (I say "they're" because I don't listen to HipHop much anymore).
ooh this school looked like it was fun. dancing all day.. hardly any work.. man, education system now adays sucks. HAHAH.. just kidding. I was 14 when this came out..
Now this is rap music, instead of today's boasts about booty, guns, gangs, bloods, crips, drugs, weed, sex, and more booty! Too bad that school was (and always will be) such a bitch.
This must have been before '90s rappers started dressing like angry clowns. I don't know how many of the backing tracks are sampled, but the overall sound is more "real" than on most rap records. This guy had a sense of humor and knew how to entertain. I wonder if there were any old Louis Jordan records ("Pettin and Pokin", "Messy Bessy", "Beware", that kind of thing) in his house while he was growing up.
So, he was playing basketball when he endured the pain on his tooth on the same time? I found it to be kinda weird. But who cares, this song is awesome anyways.
@urbanjournalist see, i am gonna start blowing the whistle on these comments, gangsta shit was around back then, but it was banned left right and center, and the difference between todays "gangsta rap" ? it used to be sang by gangsters :D
@vancouverbc69 What does that have to do with my original comment look man I'm old I been around kid I remember when Run DMC first hit MTV. I remember Music Box in NYC OK. I remember when YO MTV Raps first aired. All I was saying was that 1988 to 1990 was a fun time in hip hop. The MC's danced and rhymed about having fun and boasting I miss that.
@urbanjournalist Could not agree me... what is wrong with this 50 cent sh*t.. why gotta be killing people on every track. sigh..... I LOVE Young MC... Only found him about two days ago!!
@superboy Props for having good taste in oldschool Hip-hop. Don't let anyone tell you what to like. Yes this song is older than you but to me it shows that you can open your mind and enjoy music. People getting bent out of shape over age and generation is just plain dumb. I'm pushing thirty and I love a lot of music that was made way before I got here. Jazz for example has some amazing roots and a huge influnence on this style of hip hop. And my Grandpa was playing it in clubs at my age
Eh it don't matter if you were born yesterday, or if you were born in seventy one, it's music, and i don't think it should be kept from anyone, even those who're dumb enough to scrutonize it.
Loved "Bust a Move" didn't know shit about Young MC, Lol, still don't but hey, I'm gunna look into it. Man these Cats are cool, from the lyrics, riffs and cool bass line, the beats, the guys, the chicks, the clothes, arr man it's cool. Hey Don't panic bout loosin' this music you young dudes, just live it, it's only gone if you let it. Dress it, drive it, listen to it, dance like it, live it cause that's how you never loose it. Be what you want not what they tell ya, hey!
I like how he can rhyme so many things in this song with a cuss word. But he doesn't, it goes to show you don't need to be explicit with their lyrics to make a great song.
this is so much better than the newer rap i can't stand that "I got money, fuck hoes, got huge house and sick whips as i blast bitches with my nine" attitude
This was so bomb when you were 8 years old at the skating rink at those school parties lol Back before hip hop lost its innocence, when it was all good clean fun for everybody. Shame it had to all go down the tubes.
Wow, Look at me in one of my first videos when I was 19 years old! Thanks Marvin for the opportunity... Just wish I would have learned how to dance better. LOL
He's the only rapper that will never escape my memory. The first thing I knew about Young MC was that he had a college degree around the same time Bust a Move came out. @twiztid4lyfe73 Well, my friend. True this was our generation of Hip Hop. This was atime when it was brand new, exciting & pure. But things change while they remain the same. Hip Hop has evolved into the new generation for these kids 2day, their generation loves all their modern heroes like Wayne, Drake, Soulja, Ross etc. If ur young at heart then u will feel what the kids of today feel & enjoy all the new innovative things they are bringing 2 da table 2day. I'm a musician so i enjoy it all :-)
