  • I remember doing the hardening, polishing thing back in metal shop, very important to get it just right.

  • Why do we have to heat treat them. Is it to give them a shine.

    Hardening.

  • @shan00r Heat treating is what makes them go from soft and able to be formed and shaped to being hard and able to retain a sharp tip or edge even under use. If not heat treated they tend to be soft and get dull fast and are more prone to bending out of shape.
