@shan00r Heat treating is what makes them go from soft and able to be formed and shaped to being hard and able to retain a sharp tip or edge even under use. If not heat treated they tend to be soft and get dull fast and are more prone to bending out of shape.
different temps? water then oil mix? do you reheat after water quenching them? nice forge, kinda needs a back though doesnt it?
