I believe that EMG's are good at what they do (metal/palm muting), but are certainly note great on a clean channel. The difference of sound between 81 and 85/89 is too important to use it in a splitted configuration. Feel like each pickup only has one sound and they do not match each over. Passive Duncans are way more versatile and good in many many things, plus they split very well.
"They wanted" this and "they wanted" that... what kind of company has dean become? If they ask a guitarist to sign up with them they should be prepared to make a guitar completely to the artists desires like every other company

Quality wise unless it's made in a companies in house custom shop they are all about the same with just varying feel and specs, and that's all personal preference. The two best sounding/feeling guitars I've ever played ( for me ) were/are a 80's Hamer Special I screwed up selling and a older Korean made Peavey V type EXP I have now.
@Plutoniummatt Not necessarily, an EMG 85 in the neck position has a great sound, almost bluesy. It has great clean tones on them. But I am going to experiment on other pickups, I think im going to get a Seymour Duncan Invader for my bridge and Pearly gates for my neck

People bitch about pick ups, woods, frets, finish ect ect ... Here's the thing... The person who plays it will make it sound different than the next person who plays it. I sound better on EMG's. Some people sound better on passive pick ups. There's also a tone difference in everyone's fingers and picking technique.
I think Eric Peterson is allowed to do what he wants with his guitar, There is a reason HE plays in Testament and YOU don't. When you have a huge thrash band out there, I will listen to you show up Eric in terms of tone all you want
Sup dude. Bought this guitar a few days ago. Its realy realy brutal. The neck is something special. Its thicker at the top and up on the highfrets its abit smaller but still have that good feel to it. 10/10 guitar imo.
I listen to alot of music and eric is as under rated as alex skolnick, as under rated as Rocky George, Mike Clark is another incredible rhythm guitarist that recieves no credit. I say eric is the best rhythm guitarist because of the body of work he as given to the world of music. Its your opinion to agree or disagree with me, nd i can respect that.
