  • this vid's seriously the best drum video out - it's well taught, and it's a great groove that really makes you think, and makes you determined to get it...

  • this guy's crazy ! haha traditional grip for the win

  • pues a mi no me gusta.. se puede ser dificil pero no es tan bueno

  • this is insane counting

  • hola juan ! podrias explicar esta leccion en español por favor..

  • this is sooooo funky

  • This is some GREAT stuff....but it ain't gospel. LOL

  • @Vessel846 u can use this in gospel or anything. y'all act like machines. music is unrestricted experiment stop acting so stubborn thats conter-productive in any artform.

  • @ajstill03

I'm not stubborn and I'm def not a machine. I'm a musician who happens to play gospel music. Of course you can incorporate different styles into the music....WHICH I DO. Next time just check the 'LOL' before name calling dude....

  • @iandrummer07 I can, but have to count out loud to make sure I hit the 5

  • Can anyone play this fill while playing quarter notes with your left foot on the hi-hat? I know i cant lol

  • when is says something about "congrats for not having any problems with the drum sticks"..... well lets hope to hell not. He didn't even mention anything about how they feel or anything else..... weird. Good drummer and all.... just a little weird.

  • Juan, guys, please i need your help here although play drums but kind of the self taught drummer with no ability read and write any note drum and this is has caused me a probation. Please what must i do now start from the beginning or what???? This is really a pain in my ass now.

  • This is a really great video, well explained. There is something I don't understand though. When you're explaining the first part, about the lick being in 5/16 over 4/4, the way I understood that was that 4 beats of 16th notes are played, accenting each fifth 16th note. If I'm correct so far, then what does accenting the first snare hit have to do with 5/16? I wrote it out on paper and see no relationship between the accents every five note, and the accents with the snare, if there is one.

  • @voidofidea I think he just means it's a five 16th note pattern in 4/4. Not 5/16 (time signature) over 4/4. The wording Confused me at first too.

  • @smurfiest exactly!!!! I should have been clearer. The 16th note stays the same, but ever 5th 16th note is accent. Giving it a "5/16 feel." That's what I was trying to imply. Sorry if I confused you. Hope all is well. Take care and God Bless!! Much love and respect.

  • Hey Carlito,

Thanks for taking the time to respond! What a great lick, and you're an incredible player man. I hope to run into you one of these days!

    God Bless.

    Brad

  • Hey , thanks for responding. Yeah I really like you're playing, I'd like to eventually some day be able to play as freely as this. I've watched this video another few times but still can't get the beat, I'll have to keep practicing.

  • @smurfiest What's the difference?

  • awesome stuff here on GC

  • loven it man. effectively explained as well.

  • Damn brother... we've GOT to get in there and do this thing!!

  • Right on brother ! Extremely challanging ! Thanks a bunch

  • YESSSSIRRR!!! I taught a 7/16 one time! I'm sooooo in tune! I love it, I love it!

  • fuckin nice shit

    keepppworking

  • Been working on this lick for a week - wrote it out and everything! Man, it's tough! It goes against all your natural instincts, hands-wise. I have the left foot, right foot, and right hand, so now it's a matter of getting the left to cooperate. ;)

Thanks for sharing this with us, Juan - truly a fun challenge! :D

  • Hey man!! No problem, that's what we should be on here doing and that's sharing. It is a pretty challenging lick, just because we know what each limb is suppose to do, but putting it all together goes against our natural instincts LOL. God Bless.

  • sounds great man, you know your shit fo sho

  • i dont know all that stuff i just know how to play.,

  • sickk!

  • consider it ripped. This is a tight lick.

  • in the beginning can u show us what the fill sounds like fast? next time

  • This is dope.

  • Great lick man! But btw why do you always play 3 bars of groove and 2 bars of fill ?;)

  • My thoughts exactly....

  • HAHAHAHA!!! Yeah I don't know why I did that? I guess I was pressed for time on the youtube video. I didn't want to play the groove too long, but next time I'll stick to 4-8 Bar groove/fills LOL!! However, thanks for checking it out.

  • love these kinds of licks.

    peace!

  • Fantastic explanation and playing, but the sound wuality made me LOL

  • that is not a easy lick

  • uff, very nicee videoo...gonna start practicing thiss...Godbless

  • Come on Marcus you need to get your gospel chops clip out! LOL

  • i like dis dude he nice wit it

  • thanks for the lessons... what kind of K custom ride is that?

  • Looks like a High Definition ride.

  • Good eye man!!! That's what it is. Thanks for checking out the video! Much love and respect. God Bless.
