@fack2145 Grand Theft Auto? Yeah, we had that feeling driving in and out, but the area round the Towers seemed nice and quiet, and the Arts Center itself was downright welcoming.
@Freewayjim Isn't it just? I was thrilled to discover it's the largest in the nation if not the world: the Harbor Freeway Interchange where the 110 meets the 105.

Thank you for sending this to me Dave. It is a beautiful work in the middle of urban congestion. As you know, it holds fond memories for me. It is more then a group of towers built from scraps and discards. Summers spent with my Dad, working along side him in the shadow of the urban Taj Mahal. Thanks to you, I can re-visit this beautiful memory often...and I do.
VERY cool - and so nice to see Dawn ! I was saddened to see the fence, though - I could picture myself exploring some of those nooks and crannies and staircases...
Every time I see art like these towers it sends me back to a different time. I am young and free again and all is right with the world. A fog is lifted and my perspective is clear, my spirit soaring. Who says you cant go home again?
I second the sentiment of seadot: "It was cool that you left the freeways in the video. There's a visual echo there between the twisted concrete and the towers."
When you and Dawn talk about one man's progress... definitely a parallel to Watts Towers.
One's man progress is another man's concrete jungle, interesting comment, sort of tongue in cheek, but there is truth there. Wow, I've never seen the Towers before, they are amazing! I'd heard of the Watts riots, of course, and of course a stereotype or prejudice arises from what what has learned or heard about a particular place. Very cool to have that stereotype shattered by the beauty and magnificence of this work of art. Thanks so much for sharing. :)
This is great. I will probably never get to see this in real life. That's the beauty of YouTube. It really opens up the world to us in our lounge rooms. What amazing artwork and a fab upload. Thanks Dave ;)
This was very cool, Dave! Particularly love the piece about how a community can get such a reputation that it would be difficult to imagine that such an impressive piece of artwork would reside in it. Thanks for posting this! Come see us next time you're in town!
Whoa! I worked in Watt's during Summer break,my Dad had a Machine Shop there. I love the non-conventional architecture. Think about the fact that all that junk would have otherwise been dumped in landfills, and that it contains an abundance of the local history in the materials used. Love what the builder, Simon Rodia had to say about building it.
"I had in mind to do something big and I did it"I think of it as an urban Taj Mahal.Thank you D&D for the trip to an old stomping ground!
How wonderful to revisit that truly amazing sculpture in your lovely video! The Watts Towers really are remarkable... worth the trip down the freeway... maybe even worth the trip across the Pacific, eh, Dave? :-)
Very nice Dave (and Dawn), as usual! The background music is cool and the architecture is both frightening and compelling... keep it up, you two and g'day! ; )
Wow, this is really cool Dave, have never seen this architecture before...I too love the sunshine, here in the UK we are a little soggy to say the least..lol...Great to see you and Dawn having fun!..
I strongly advise about getting off of the freeway at night

@MrHodgi777 I met a fella who grew up in Watts who basically said the same thing. Seemed fine by day though.

Dave, when are you coming back to the US???

Amazing that the Watts Towers were untouched during the riots in 1965. They are a symbol of hope, peace and love in the "concrete jungle"...
Thankyou for this interesting video, Mark, I enjoyed it!
