Wttc 2009 was all about who would win of Wang Hao, Wang Liqin or Ma Lin. And ofc Ma Long as a underdog. To next wttc 2011 we have aboved 4 players but also Zhang Jike and Xu Xin and i dont know if there are any new Chinese stars on the Horizon. Its gonna be very exciting and next Wttc will be very open on who´s gonna win. Best thing is, next wttc is gonna be held in Rotterdam, just 20 minutes for me on the train. Yiehaaa
Good old times when Wang Hao was in perfect shape and number 1... and could beat Ma Long... lol... To think that now no other players tan Xu Xin and Boll can stand a game with Ma Long :D
@AnsemDerWURST In an official match, all judgements are passed by the umpire. If the umpire does not signal a net serve, the play should continue. Sometimes the umpire may halt the play if the player raises his/her hand, but this happens only if the umpire agrees with the player. If the umpire decides not to or thinks the serve is alright, then the play must be continued. The progress is decided by the umpire, not the player.
ma long is not good enough if you compare them to wang hao, ma lin and wang li qin...they are experienced players, but still ma long is young and he will improve his skills. i think ma long is not good in backhand, but he's a monster in forehand
Wait, the way they say "cho - le" makes it sound like they are saying "wrong" in Chinese, haha. I dunno, honestly it could be bad, ball, or wrong IMO, or perhaps a combination of all of the meanings :o.
you usually only use "q" if the next letter is "i" because "q" makes a chee sound and "i" makes an ee sound, so it actually is cho...i'm chinese...i would know
Both 'ch' and 'q' sounds exist in Mandarin Chinese. However 'ch' and 'q' are similar but aren't the same pronunciation. Qing and Ching sound the same to people that don't speak Mandarin, but those who speak it can differentiate the two sounds.
Also, there is no 'qh' in Mandarin pinyin. I think you mean 'Qiu' as in 'ball', as in 'ping pang qiu', which is Chinese for Table Tennis.
if cho isnt a word it now is. its definition or context used in: when celebrating winning a point in table tennis. you say cho or choo or if your ma lin, chollay lol.
well, even non chinese shout something like "chaaaa"... which is also totally meaningless... why are table tennis players making up these strange words ? why cant they cheer like all other sports people ???
yeah, the official rules says straight, but if you think about it, it does get a bit hard to get a ball "straight", I think they are more strict on the rule of how high it has to be then on how many degrees off they are from 90, but I get what you guys mean, I have seen quite a few of the pros throw it pretty close to "45 degrees"
if you check other videos of ma long you can see when ma long has a wrong serve, he always loses like 5 or more points in a row. Another thing you can see in his videos is that in alot of matches he has 1 or 2 wrong serves called by referees.
@kingleonardo: ma long didnt throw the ball high enough. If you think twice, the higher you throw the more spin you can actually give the ball, try to spin a ball when you throw it 5 cm up, its almost impossible if you have the ball flat in your hand.
well you have to throw it that high because otherwise you would be able to give the ball spin with your fingers, thats also the reason why you have to throw it up form your open palm not from your fingers ...
why do you give more spin to the ball is you throw it higher? try that and youll see the higher you throw the ball the harder it is to server because of the speed .You can give ,more spin to the ball if you can control it better....
like you say, the ball will go down at a higher speed, which wil be hard for the server. But, if you practice your serve with short toss and you will get use with your ball feeling, then you can toss it high. Speed of the ball+ the speed of your wrist= more spin
It has more spin the higher you throw it because it is falling faster when you hit it, and that speed is transferred into a different kind of energy motion, spin, when you hit it right.
"straight" as defined in the ITTF rules has some lee-way.
As long as it goes nearly straight they don't normally mind it leaning toward the player a bit - specially on high throws where it is extremely difficult to throw it exactly straight.
If you read through the ITTF handbook there isn't a direct mention of throwing it straight, although it is implied in some places.
The main things are that you have to have a open palm with the ball resting on the palm (not the fingers), and the ball and palm must be clearly visible when you throw. The second thing is that the contact point of the ball must be visible.
You are allowed to hide your blade during the serve, as long as the contact point is visible. =]
Wang hao didnt give Ma long the time to catch his breath from his agressive attack........... I havent see Ma long lose so badly in YEARS........ way to go Wang hao.
The rule to throw the ball high enough is so that the umpires can see whether any sort of "illegal" spin is rendered on the ball before the serve. It is insulting for a player to be called fault on this rule because it implies that the player could be cheating.

I felt the same way, although, I am not mad w/ the ref. Chinese feel like they can do whatever they want. Especially Ma Lin, no respect for the rules...completely breaking other person's rhythm. If I was the ref, I would have given him a yellow card after 3 warnings. and if he continued to do it, I would have disqualified it. A player should not have the option to disobey the rules and get away w/ it. *Ma Lin does have a profusely sweating problem, they got sprays that take care of that.
Your body is designed to sweat to cool itself off, and it's unhealthy to prevent that. Especially when these sprays have a high content of aluminum in them which are linked to many problems down the road. No one should be obligated by any rule to take a spray to prevent you from sweating, end of story.
hey man, i knew wang hao was gonna win already, why dont u think the chinese put ma long to play in the olympics? becausa hes too unprepared for a big competition, its direfent , wang hao is more experienced, i know he was gonna win
its the second time that I see ma long doing a fault serv according to umpires. I don't know if I am right but this one is more obvious than the match with maze
i just don't understand why people still play tennis

But Wang's serve violates the rule, too.
He doesn't throw the ball straight .

I've seen somewhere on rules that it has to be tossed straight, but he throw it into his body in almost a horizontal fashion 0.0
I did his serve before and a guy claimed that I'm hiding the ball/blade :/
