I grew up too late to see Tommy play but my dad always said he was one of the great players, him and Cousy and Sharman were unstoppable.
I remember him well as a coach, his substitutions & oddball timeouts would turn out to be astounding gamechanging solutions.
Wish I could hear him every game but he'll be gone soon and it'll be more NBA tv announcers, with no style, no outrage. Sir Charles will be the only one left really and he doesn't call games
I'm hoping that David Stern will see how much these technical calls are pissing everyone off and change that rule before the next season. It's ruining the game a little imo.
This is coming from a Hall-of-Famer who got into physical altercations on a nightly basis in the 60s, when you literally had to send someone to the ER to get ejected, so I can understand his frustration with today's pussyball.
@americanaccents Tommy played and coached with Bill Russel, Cousy, Bird, McHale, & Red Aurbach, and earned the respect from those two. In a way he has a right to be that biased, no matter how annoying it can get.
He should have never got ejected, this is the same rule they tried to do like 4 or 5 years ago, until it happens to kobe, lebron or anyone else in a big regular season game , i have a feeling it will just go on
