his blog 'clusterfuck nation' is excellent, and yes I believe he is right, we are going to come up against supply constraints which will result in $300 oil and a never ending global recession
It would help if the poster referenced who he's responding to - actually, many people I've had contact with have a feeling that Kunstler is correct - but without acknowledging a problem, there's no way a solution can be created fast enough. I think of it as playing the three monkeys - see no problem, hear no problem, and don't mention any problem.
Jim is right on the money, as usual. The oil industry IS a sunset industry. At least as far as mega-projects are concerned. I've been working for Canadian energy companies for a few years now and it's clear that once the natural gas in northern Alberta is gone, tar sands processing will stop. After that, thousands of "human scale" projects will supply a slowly shrinking flow of expensive oil for decades (unless exploding demand causes the very fabric of our society to disintegrate...).
Thanks for posting those. I just received "World Made By Hand" yesterday, along with Dmitri Orlov's "Reinventing Collapse", and so I'm working slowly through both.
I think I'm a bit more pro-active in my approach. For example, I think that having a stocked pantry is damn smart. I also think I'll get a single residential scale PV panel and setup to charge up batteries, run the computer, etc. I like his wood cookstove idea; we've been seriously talking about that one. :-)

Ahh..am I clueless but crude is trading for around $38/barrel early Feb.09!
dontswin 3 years ago
um, it's 72 a barrel in August...in the deepest recession since 1929...don't look at price...it will whipsaw and see 100+ by 2010 again.
hongisto24 2 years ago
um...no you won't see 100+ plus by 2010..since consumers will tighten their wallets again and therefore gasoline demand shall revert back down..
This particular commodity I am not bullish on, others I am,,energy(other than petro) and metals(somewhat) and of course the grains.

Just 10 billions? Now the estimated is 50 billions or more. I read that If all the estimates could be confirmed, Brazil could reach up to 82 billion.
