The AR15 platform is a dead platform and the only reason it's still going is because of the piston systems out there. It doesnt matter what you do to an AR15, it's still gonna be an AR15 and will not be able to compete with any of the next generation rifles that are a full piston operating system from the ground up and not a kit ! The Scar, Remington ACR and Beretta ARX160 just to name a few.
Great rifle but so not worth the price. For one the rifle still doesnt come with anything different other than it being a piston kit. an H2 buffer is still weak as shown by Vltor you need at least a 5 ounce buffer to fully minimize any cycling flaw ! the lower still has nothing but stock features other than the pistol grip.
No problem, I just got back from spending the last 5 years serving in the French Foreign Legion's Elite 2e REP (Second Foreign Parachute Regiment) as a Second Classe Legionnaire, I had two tours in Afghanistan. & I want to purchase a Piston AR, I've been looking at the LWRC M6A2 but I've found them to have fitment issues, the other Piston Op AR I like is the LMT CQB MRP & you have the only in-depth review on it, I wish you had the LMT lower as well, how has your LMT performed, any failures?
I also wish I had the lower as well but it works flawlessly with the Bushmaster Lower. I have not shot it much at one time. The most rounds I put through it in a hurry was 120 rounds of Silver Bear ammo and it worked just flawlessly.
@zaldivarbigboy You have your AFG is WAY too far forward, Chris Costa or Travis Haley never said to rest your thumb on the gas block, have you ever tried shooting like that? All the hot gases are vented threw & out of the gas block & because it's a Piston Op AR the gas block is where all the heat is transferred to. You may want to re-watch Magpul Dynamics & learn how to get your "Dynamic support grip" on your Quad rail before you scald your thumb there Costa.
What makes you think I don't use tactical gloves???. LOL. Your very right. If I shoot it the way it is right now there is no dough I would get some heat on my hand. I don't shoot my rifle very much due to the lack of long ranges around were I live. I do like to keep myself familiar with the battery of arms of the AR and the barrel is a 16" barrel with carbine length quad rail. I also like to keep my stock very short so I can reach the AFG were its located just fine.
@zaldivarbigboy Even if you were wearing gloves @8:44 threw 8:54 the way your support hand is holding the very end of the MRP quad rail with your thumb resting on the gas block (Which gets hotter than the barrel), I'm sure you would more your thumb from that position as the gas block starts to heat up, but that's defiantly not the way to support your forend, I know that everyone has there own grip with a rifle just make sure to back your thumb off the gas block. Good review on the LMT upper BTW
I was just kidding about the gloves boss. I most definitely have to move that AFG a bit back to prevent any damage to my hands. As you stated the gas bleed off is right there were my thumb is resting and will most definitely burn the heck out of my thumb if I were to shoot like that. Thanks for the concern and advice I will follow it. And thanks for the comment.s
I only saw one hole on the end of the gas piston are you sure it has a supressor mode or just on and off for single shot? I only say this because i thought i read it somewhere
If you look closely you will see there are two holes. One is tiny and the other is bigger. I kept rotating the piston too fast but if you look closely you will see it. When on suppressed the small hole is lined up with the gas block.
Great Video. I plan on ordering/purchasing the CQB MRP™ Defender Piston 16 5.56 next week. What are your thoughts regarding a stainless steel barrel? It is $110 more.
I personally don't like the stainless steel barrels on the AR. I think they take from the black rifle look of the gun. And on the LMT piston the gas bleed off from the piston is on top of the rifle which means that with time that area will begin to discolor or turn blue from the heat giving the stainless barrel a ugly look on the other hand its going to be easier to clean cause its stainless. Personally I would put the 110 bugs towards a nice trigger. Just my 2 cents.
@zaldivarbigboy Good points. Do you not see the gas bleed off on the standard barrel or do you clean it real good? I was reading online that the chrome lining of the standard barrel could flake off. I have a hard time believing this but it is a concern. Have you had any problems with the barrel?
I see it but since the barrel is black its not an eyesore. And no i don't clean it. It wont damage anything and the burn deposits are minimal but you can see some discoloration from the burnt powder that need some cleaning. Nothing major.
@bordersoldier I prefer DI over piston for several reasons: cost. simplicity. balance of gun, pistons are more front heavy, which i don't like. Actually since I made my last post I bought a Daniel Defense ar-15 over the LMT. However, I'll still probably buy an LMT because you cant have too many quality rifles :)
@zaldivarbigboy When I return to the states, after finishing my contract in The French Foreign Legion I am going to buy a Piston Operated AR, or build one using a Colt 6920 Mil Spec Upper & Lower & utilize an LMT, LWRC piston system, barrel & bolt group. +Im going to get a Bullpup, I've been using the FAMAS F-1 for almost 5 years I'm so use to the compactness of the Bullpup i.e. FNH FS2000 Tactical or a IMI TAVOT TAR-21 if they have ever imported them to the US, I don't know about the AUG tho
I just bought my "direct" from LMT fully assembled less than 1 month ago. The upper no longer comes with ARMS flip up sights nor the Knights Armament rail covers. Mine has the standard AR15 fixed front sight post and an LMT tactical rear sight. The rail covers are also made in house by LMT now and resemble the Tango Down covers, but less "beefy". I wish mine came with all that cool jazz yours got. Good review though!
@zaldivarbigboy nope. probably same price if inflation is correctly calculated. They get to make a bigger profit though since they don't have to pay for aftermarket parts...
the only thing not good about this set up is the weight. its front heavy and overall a heavy carbine....my FN Fs2000 is so much fun to shoot CQB style...
Dude I envy you. I am the biggest FN fans cause I like the way their products look and work. I have always wanted a FS200 or an PS90 rifles but the 1700 bucks price tag has kept me away. believe it or not I only paid like 1200 for my LMT MRP Piston 16 rifle and I have to give it to you It is a heavy rifle but that same weight also makes it that much controllable tho. Thanks for the comment.
I do have several LMT lowers. What made me think Adcor is the the 6 thousand rounds zero failures test preformed by the same lab the tests military weapons. I just need something holds up like my POF and my Danial Defense. Thanks for the reply.. Well done video by the way.
I was not aware of the test and that is very impressive if it is a fact and not a marketing campaign. For sure the LMT will give you equal performance to your POF. Most people in the forums say you can't go wrong with either one.
Truly I'm very intrigue by this ADCOR upper. If you do get it please give me some feedback on it. Thanks for the comments and glad you found the video helpful.
Gotta say the ADCOR upper looks nice and the charging handle is a cool innovation but what gets me is that the piston is permanently attached to the volt carrier. That on an AR platform might spell trouble.
The LMT is money well spent and the only thing I would take in its place would be a SCAR 16s and only because of weight and looks, nothing else. I believe the LMT outweighs even the FN in quality and durability. Choose well my friend.
I believe so. The two stage on the LMT have a small take up before the trigger gets hand for the final squeeze that fires the weapon. The Bushmaster has a very rough trigger with two different stops as it travels backwards making it really difficult to get a feel for when the trigger will brake.
I also believe most two stage triggers have lighter pull weight than standard triggers.
if you got the whole rifle then you got the two stage trigger which i dont have cause my lower is not a LMT but a bushmaster. I bet you wont be disappointed.
When I hold mine in my hands I feel as if I can take on the world with it due to its awesomeness. This brand kicks ass and puts out some really good quality and dependable rifles.
It truly has great workmanship and design. If you can compare a soldier to a painter this AR would be the Brush he chooses to paint his master peaces.
Nothing wrong with that. The main reason I got this rifle was due to ease of cleaning after the range visit. That can be solved with the DI system by getting a chrome bolt carrier.
Also its like getting a HK, you know a Glock will do the same but doing it with the HK makes you happier.
Yeah, The MRP Upper is the basic set up. If you want to make yours a Piston all you need is the barrel piston assembly which sells for 350.00 and of course the Bolt Carrier. Still a whole lot cheaper than getting a new LMT Riffle.
Man you are making me spend too much money! I bought the FNH 45 tactical pistol after your video on it...now this rifle I want also. Are you happy that you bought it. Thanks for taking the time to make the videos.
Man I'm supper happy that I upgraded to this rifle. To me this rifle is a very close match between the AR platform accuracy and the AK 47 reliability. I know this rifle will work no matter what and like I said the features on it are hard to beat from most other Piston Driven systems. Its definitely worth the money when you compare it to other models out there in the market today. Its key features are more than just a piston AR. Its all the extras that make it a great piston AR.
