  • A film that will never grow old ! I saw it for the first time when i was a kid? Allways remembered it... and now i guess i'v watched it at least 15 times over ! Thanks for the post !

  • The veterans that volunteered for duty on them Subs had nuts of brass!

  • Always like this film. Excellent cast (regardless of age) and supporting cast and top class director. I have questions though. Why wouldn't they have recognised the sound as that of a submarine? Why wouldn't they use sonar when both subs were known to each other?

  • A true classic, one that I can watch and enjoy over and over.

  • thank you so much for uploading. Always wanted to watch this movie. Been searching for 20 years.

  • Don Rickels? In a straight role?

  • Ned Beach was my father's roommate at USNA (class of 39). My son and I watched this film tonight. Deep appreciation on our end for posting it.

  • I never saw a Burt Lancaster film I didn't like. He was a truely great actor.

  • Great film, one of the fewe really good submarine movies ever made. Thanks for the upload.

  • The right Stuff! :D Thx

  • Well done vidmnk, Flickchaser here, I finally caught one. WWII & Bk&Wt. Submerged into a good film. TBT on deck I believe is Target Bearing Transmitter some old salt can confirm this for us. Relative bearing-is that relative to the center line or longitudinal axis of the boat as opposed to true bearing using grid north as a reference?

  • Great film with two genuine Hollywood giants. Apart from the special effects (which were pretty good for its time), I don't think it's dated at all.

In terms of story, tension, pacing and especially acting it easily stands the test of time and comparison with more recent films like Crimson Tide (which I also liked).

Anyway, thank you so much for uploading this, videomonkey.

  • Thank you, Videomonkey. Another winner !

  • Thanks videomonkey. Love these old movies

  • Nicely done, great to see stuff like this loaded up...keep em coming !

  • Anyone know if, at that short range under water, the radar could work to pinpoint the target sub ?

  • Radar does not work under water, only sonar. Likewise with the morse sent supposedly by the Jap sub. Only very long wavelengths can be used. The morse

is a jumble of letters and numbers, meaningless. Still, great to see this old movie again, TKS ES 73's Bunky.

  • @BunkyOhare I copied "have sushi ready when we return to port" ! Ha! You're correct they didn't have long wave and couldn't transmit under water. /4QRP Mike

  • I love the music at 5:40, and the japanese crews reaction like..."O crap!!!"
