Wonderful, the best version of this work IMHO.
I have a poor quality copy of this production- I would love to know the names of the cast and so on.

this is really good! but i get freaked out with there masks on...and there not moving...

because britten wanted to potray thier emotions through movement and gentures instead of facial expressions

Britten had just returned from Japan and was inspired by the Noh theatre he saw and thus decided to employ the mask in Curlew river which, incidently I think was based on a japanese play or legend(?)

It was, Nick - Britten was inspired by a medieval Noh-play called "Sumidagawa", which the composer saw in Japan in the 1950s.
