I don't know which part of the world you lived in, but my world in the 80's wasn't so 'sharply' dressed. I was a kid and the most I saw was badly dressed school teachers, uni-students, unemployed people, a few junkies, a few punks, mullet heads, etc.

The 'sharply dressed' only seemed to appear on TV, whilst reality looked more like 'Dogs In Space' and Cold Chisel's 'Cheap Wine' video clip.
