But the instruments still don't sound orchestral. Oddly, the first version of OWA I ever heard was the orchestral version (not the AC one), so when I went from that to the in-game version I wasn't too pleased. Even in the 3-year time span between FF7 and Chrono Cross midi sound quality improved substantially, and I think the

@JoTheVeteran I have read all of your replies. Yes, it was technically scored for an orchestra, but not actually performed by one. The sounds are DEFINITELY midi. The Playstation was capable of CD quality sound and I can assure you that no recorded orchestra sounds anything like the version of OWA actually heard in the game. Those are midi instruments. On the other hand, the version on the FFVII Reunion tracks is truly orchestrated (although not by Uematsu) and performed by a real orchestra

@JoTheVeteran If you have not heard the orchestral version from the Reunion Tracks (which at this point I'm beginning to assume you haven't) I STRONGLY recommend it. It is immensely more powerful than the original and imo the best rendition of OWA that exists: /watch?v=kbWSEfokCTQ

For just 2 instruments this really is rather amazing.

You should get hold of that guy who plays Zelda songs and such on totally bonkers instruments (wine glasses, beer bottles, children's toys etc) and make him do some of the stuff you're less equipped for, I think he had a few wind instruments. Maybe.

@JoTheVeteran I don't really think these are faults. It's a cover, a re-interpretation. The orchestral approach is there in many forms already, so frankly I feel this is a breath of fresh air.

@idshanks That's the most sensible think I've read in all these replies I've been bombarded with. What you say makes sense but still isn't my cup of tea. I strongly believe that this melody cannot be delivered correctly with those means.

Just consider this. In FF7, that melody played by those two instruments only instead of the orchestral version. Would it amaze you that same? Because when I first heard this in the game I went :O and dropped my controller.

Furthermore people who don't know anything about the Final Fantasy 7 story will probably not like it for It boarders to cacophony because of the lack of instruments. It certainly fails to create "that" feeling you get when you hear the Aeris' theme or Game of Thrones, both of which have been performed perfectly by those girls.
