@runningswimqueen Because on Without a Trace she's supposed to be an FBI agent. FBI agent's have to be American citizens. Middle America tends not to buy into characters that are supposed to be American citizens but speak with foreign accents. Not my rules, but that's how it goes.

Actually, Mel Gibson was born in America to American parents, and moved to Australia when he was a boy, so in fact he hasn't 'lost' his Australian accent when you hear him speak American accented English. He's just...linguistically facile.
