This vid was shot on a digital camera, so sound may be affected cuz of that but I would suggest getting a SRI. I have one from AEM and love it. the stock air filter is real restrictive when it comes to air flow
It helps a good bit. Exhaust sound is based on the type of exhaust piping but also the flow of air throughout the engine and a CAI or SRI lets the air flow better in being less restrictive than the air box from the factory. Headers are going to change the sound/performance significantly
@MitsEclipseGS5 yea not only that but it also depends on the number of chambers in the muffler and the design of the chamber that also effects the sound...also the cai does effect hp but not more than 5hp idc wat the company said 5hp max ...im not arguing against you mitseclipsegs5 im ...backing you up in a way against the guy who was being a smart ass..... btw i think you muffler hanger is loose or rattleing against the body i heard it when u started it up good vid either way
@minicobra01 very true. As far as the loose hanger sound. It is not the hanger, the whole exhaust is installed pretty solid. What it is is the notorious yet benign valve tick on the SOHC 4G64 head. Nothing to worry about; happens to pretty much any 3G with 100K+ on the odometer.
@MitsEclipseGS5 oh and thanks for not puting a fart can on this car there the ONLY import i generaly like and every import in my area i swear has a fart can or body kit of some kind on it. again you tube high five for not turning this into the typical ricer...im not bashing your car at all again like this and only this body style eclpise's and jus to clear things up a stock honda or mitsubishi is not a rice..its just aplane ol import... the very second some one puts a fart can/body kit on it
@minicobra01 Thanks man appreciate it. I'm all about clean cars, no body kits, no big exhaust (the kind where you would actually lose HP and torque on an NA car), no neons, etc... Another point; eclipses are made here in the USA. The only thing Japanese about it is the fact that it was designed by Mitsubishi with obviously Mitsubishi parts. Seeing an eclipse in Japan is like seeing a Renault in the states; rare.
@MitsEclipseGS5 rly??? made in usa...well even if thtats true....and not direced at your car just at the company ingeneral its still is a jap car comp but either way its a nice car on its onw its just a shame ppl have to destroy there names by doing wat i said in the last comment....
@MitsEclipseGS5 Ever think about marketing? Mitsubishi did design the entire car. The engine is Japanese, but it's put together in the states. Its a brand that came together with Chrysler and GM to target certain people in the market. Yes, it's a Japanese engine and therefore a Japanese car. However, the Mitsubishi model was designed to be sold to the USA market period. Nothing more nothing less. The eclipse is designed for and only marketed in the states.
i have the same exhaust, from summit racing, same mods except a CAI. this sounds so much more aggressive than mine some how for the same mods except that CAI which i dont think would make THAT big of a difference.
so far your exhaust has the best sound out of all the eclipse i've seen on youtube but do you know an exhaust that has like a motorcycle sound for a 2000 eclipse gt?
Thanks for the compliment! As far as your question, I do not have any suggestions for a "motorcycle-like" sound. This will be difficult since the engines between the two machines are very much different hance different sounds. BTW IMO it will be harder to achieve a motorcycle like sound coming from a GT since u have a V6 (deeper sound) compared to my I4. Good luck!
It came with the car when I bought it. However Ive seen it online many places for about $450-$500. As far as install, any exhaust shop could do it obviously but if its a bolt on (really havent looked under the car to find out), it would prolly take about two or more hrs. I would recommend PB blaster or some other solvent to break the bolts holding the existing exhaust since they will prolly be rusted tight pretty good.
It is a 2000 GS Fed Spec. For this production year only; they were manufactured with one resonator. From 2001 on, they came with two. So it originally came with one oem resonator now it has the magnaflow resonator which is part of the cat back system.
ooh i see.. but u took the origional resonator off right?.. i have a 2000 eclipse and i want to put an exhaust but it has 3 resonators on it and i dont no if that would affect the sound of an aftermarket muffler
The original had to come off for the cat back. Your 2000 should not have 3 resonators on it?! But anyway if ur doing a cat back then everything from cat back will be replaced. Pretty much, the more resonators u take off the louder. Like I said I have one resonator which came with the system and it is just right in my opinion.
well i went to a muffler shop and the guy said it had 3 on it. so i dont no if he was lying or not. so u still have one resonator on it tho right?.. about how much did u pay for it?
ooh well i don no i will probably just get a catback and see what it does if not ill change it.. that IS too much for me. ebay motors is the way to go which will be were i get all my parts from
Catbacks tend to be the most expensive. I think what you're talking about getting is just an axle back or tail pipe exhaust. These are fairly cheaper at around $100. Ebay is good but just watch for scams and remember with ebay you get what you pay for. Good luck
whats an axle back?.. yeah thanks for the advice. most of my boys got there car parts off there and they get perfect parts wat they wanted for cheap..
An axle back is the canister and the pipe up until the axle, hence axle back, whereas a cat back is well from the cat back. This includes resonator, "S" pipe, and pipe leading to canister, and canister obviously. I suggest using the same dealer on ebay that your buddies use if they continue to get good authentic parts.
Sounds like its gonna be a $200 install fee but you still have to buy the exhaust? You should try to get some jacks and do it urself. All it is is unscrewing nuts and bolts, the hardest part is loosening up the rusted nuts and bolts from ur current exhaust.
ya.. if you look.. or unless you already have.. there is a flange like right after your axle were its actually bolted to the axleback exhaust.. i think on my old gs when i bought a new exhaust.. it was a borla replacement axleback that was eseentially the muffler and the small curved pipe leading to the flange piece.. it was like 130 bucks but it looked and sounded alright..
Your exhaust isn't decreasing torque. It just slightly shifts your power band a little higher. Engines want NO backpressure. But when exhaust velocity slows down - thats when you lose power. Catbacks won't open the exhaust enough to worry about that. Nice GS :)
I bought the car used and have no clue on the price. The Greddy model only fits the GT (V6) model tho and not the RS or GS. In my opinion magnaflow is pretty damn good!
Ya the only way to get noticable power out of a 4 cyl is forced induction. If you you do headers, intake, and catback exhaust all at once with a tune you should see some.
Duals with a 4cyl actually makes the engine lose HP because of less restrcition I believe is what someone told me. The only time duals on a 4cyl is good is if it has turbo, supercharger etc. as in the case of the SRT-4
yep.. very true.. in acuallity. while putting an aftermarket exhaust does increse hp.. it actually decreses torque... your stock muffler creates a bit more back pressure making the engine a bit tighter... though.. i dunno.. i mean i changed my muffler out on my eclipse and it really didnt do anything.. just made it loud... and not good loud...
btw.. that sounds sick man.. i really dig the high pitch... really awesome
Thanks man. It sounds a hell of a lot better in person tho (microphones on cameras = fail). But yeah totally forgot about the torque decrease and you're also right in that there is not much if any noticeable difference in torque or HP; main difference is sound!
sorry but i have another question but i have either 2" or 2.25" pipes running back dual since the day i ran it dual its being doing it but it does it worse now. what it does is all the way up to about 3000 rpm its fine but soon as i go over 3000 it just kind of pops like its losing compression or somthing and i have had 3 different set of mufflers on it but thats not it. Do you have any suggestion? thanks
I appreciate your opinion but most people like the sound and say that the camera is of bad quality. As far as ur eclipse, is it a 4cyl? If so, duals is not such a good idea unless u have forced induction (turbo, supercharged, etc.) Duals is only good for the V6 due to power differnce. As far as the popping sound, is it faint or are they loud backfires?
i have a 2000 eclipse dual but i want magnaflows on it, by the way thats sounds bad, but i was wondering if that was just the muffler or the whole system. thanks
It is a street series (street series were made for the 4 cyl and race series were made for the 6 cyl; just a side note!) Yes I believe I do still have the resonator installed. (It is a 2000 Fed spec so it only came with one resonator tho instead of the 2001+ models which came with two).
NICE!!..i have a 1997 Eclipse GS and i want a MagnaFlow for it and i love the sound of urs, so i was jus checkn to see if it was a 4 cyl or not..thanks man
